Safety as a practice; survival is an art
mjosparky replied to patworks's topic in Safety and Training
As usual a good read Patrick. Survival is a state of mind that some people never fully understand. I guess that’s why they don’t/won’t survive. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
It’s kind of ironic that both Steve and Charlie died in old war birds. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I am not a wingsuit flyer in fact I no longer jump. But I have been around long enough to recognize bull shit when I see it. You remind me of the little boy that sits alone during recess because no one will play with him. The main reason is he is such a little asshole that the other kids can’t stand being around him. He then claims that no one will play him because he is so much better than they are. But nobody knows because he always plays alone. Your world must be a lonely place. This is just my opinion for what it worth. The Silhouette is the best kept secret in skydiving. It is a hybrid using F-111 type material on the bottom skin and ZP on the top. This means easier packing. It will never be a hot rod but the performance is just fine for the average week end jumper. Unless you have some driving reason to downsize get a new 210 Silhouette and enjoy jumping. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Question for anyone with a license
mjosparky replied to lindseyxo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Darlin, I'll be you new boyfriend. I have numbers and log books and everything to prove it. I will even go the drop zone with you. Please, Please! Dump the dirtbag. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

And I'm not perfect either. I'm also glad to help anyone wanting info. Yup, here worked there for quite some time. That is when he began building his own Para-Foils. They were all 189 size 9-cells and he would only jump them on accuracy jumps. He was one of my best friends in this whole, great big world of ours. A great guy & one of the most intense competitors ever; and it never showed. JerryBaumchen The history and beginnings of this sport fascinate me. Regarding the history of this sport, I am convinced that there is not much you do not know. As for people from the past you either knew them personally or know of them. That is so cool. If you die before me I am going to cut the top off of you head and get all the good stuff out. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Here's a picture (published in Parachutist last year) of a 1964 Pioneer lopo jumped in Orange, MA in June 2009. HW That is one ugly canopy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hey Jerry, To me this shows a mind set. A willingness to cut corners. To wing it so to speak. The reason reserves are so reliable is because in most cases they are packed following a proven set of procedures. And many of these procedures were established because someone died. I would definitely talk with the rigger and if he blew it off got the DPRE in that area. The FSDO would a last resort. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

An old time jumper named “Dirty Ed” was fond of saying “If this sport is so fucking safe how come all my friends are dead”. The more layers of complexity you add the gear the more chances you have to screw something up. KISS. Why do want the sport to grow. Growth brings with it attitude and chaos. Look what happened to skiing with all the growth and going main stream. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

This *might* be valid. On a wingsuit, they'll wear through the fabric fairly quickly. Have you ever seen a wing suit worn through by B-12? Or better yet have you ever met a wing suit jumper that had B-12's on their rig? If so I have learned something today. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Slider Weight Affect on Opening Characteristics

ZHills: Altimeter Mix Up over New Years
mjosparky replied to kmills0705's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Damn, that’s one of the originals. You had to color in the yellow warning area. Sweet. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
These could not be classified as “failure”. It would be abuse of the gear that was caught during routine inspection/maintained. I jumped B-12’s for 30 years without any problems and they made the gear more user friendly. Someone we both know has jumped either quick ejects or B-12’s for almost 40 years without incident. There is no valid reason not to jump them. The reasons sport rigs went to quick fit adapters were first price. Quick fit adapter will run about $8.00 each, B-12’s will run about $19.00 each, and Quick ejectors will run almost $60.00. Another reason is the ease of production; you only have one piece of hardware to mount. And the last reason has already been mentioned, the cool factor. But skydivers don’t always use common sense and reason when making gear choices. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

There are jumpers who will not jump without an audible in each ear and a visual altimeter on each wrist. While none of these do anything would you call the jumper “device dependent”? Once you get past a main, reserve and a harness/container everything else can be looked at as added fluff. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Post 97 of this thread gives the link. Post 96 of this tread mentioned that the passenger had some military experience. But it was not experience in jumping. You should try reading the other posts, they have a wealth of information. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Falling out of your rig? Ever heard of this?
mjosparky replied to ridestrong's topic in Safety and Training
Skydivers will sacrifice their safety and jump a reserve overloaded by 50 pounds to save a few ounces and a little pack volume. What do you think the chances are of getting them to wear an OSHA type body harness? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Slider Weight Affect on Opening Characteristics
mjosparky replied to voilsb's topic in Gear and Rigging
They also produce less friction allowing the slider to move down the lines easier. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
