  1. Is there an echo in here? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. This is what all TSO’s reserve/emergency canopies are test to. 4.3.7 Rate of Descent Tests, All Types: There shall be not less than 6 drops, with an individual and/or dummy in each harness weighing not less than the maximum operating weight4. The average rate of descent shall not exceed 24 ft/s (7.3 m/s), and the total velocity shall not exceed 36 ft/s (11.0 m/s), in an unaltered post deployment configuration, corrected to standard sea level altitude conditions. The rate of descent measurement shall be taken over a minimum interval of 100 ft (30.5 m). These tests may be combined with other tests in this section. I don’t know where you got the 172 mph from but the minimum test speed is 180 KEAS which come out to around 207 mph. 4.3.4 (Continued): a. Test weight = Maximum operating weight limit x 1.2 b. Test speed = Maximim operating speed limit x 1.2 However, test weight must be not less than 264 lb (119.7 kg) and the test speed must be not less than 180 KEAS (333.4 km/h) for reserve and emergency parachute assemblies; for dual harness parachute assemblies for test weight must not be less than 480 lb (217.7 kg) and the test speed must not be less than 210 KEAS (388.9 km/h). 4. I have seen a couple of videos showing the same problem. I think if you lengthen the bridle and have the main side JM drop off the problem will go away. You have a 3 person burble causing the air flow to close back at or above the PC. This reduces the effectiveness of the PC to lift the bag/canopy. That and the tight corners on the Sunpath container that may have been over packed just a bit. Jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  12. Don't call/write me, here is my response to these questions. What have you seen him do? How do you know he is underpaid if you don’t know what he is paid? If he does half the things I have heard about he should be out on his ass. Considered confidential by whom? While employee’s personal information is required to be help in confidence his/her salary should be available to the members. Ask the finance committee my ass. Why can’t a member ask his elected representative to look into these things? That is was a representative does. It is this kind of attitude that got us in the shit storm we are in today. I don’t remember, I don’t recall, is it written down anywhere…… Boy do you sound like a politician. This is not directed at you in particular but to all members of the board in general. It appears that they have turned USPA into their own little play ground and have forgotten who bought the swing. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Yesterday I was reading through the Nov. 2009 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology and they ran a favorable review of Jim’s Book. Felt funny thinking, hey I know that guy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. And that where the problem is as I see it. Neither activity is something that should be done on a causal part time basis. Both take very specific skills that need to be learned slowly and kept honed. Skydiving on the other hand you can get a little sloppy and usually get away with it. If it wasn’t so the fatality rate would be close to triple digits every year. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. I have seen this type of scenario played out way too many times and have probably been guiltily of it myself at one time or another. By the very nature of what we do, skydivers have a pretty big ego and believe they can pull off anything. Without this aspect of their nature the fatality rate would be single digit every year. It takes time and experience to learn everything involved in doing a demo safely. One of the hardest parts is to learn yourself and recognize you own limitations. Like so many other things in skydiving the best way to learn is to start small, small demo large target, and enlist the advice of an experienced demo jumper. I had the good fortune of learning from a guy named Pat Moorehead. That was the original reason behind the requirement to have demos approved by an S&TA or RD. A demo jump is not a skydive, it is a performance put on at the request of a client for the enjoyment of, in most cases, a paying audience. This audience will be most impressed with color, movement and landing on target standing up. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
