I use the attached list that starts when the rig come in. I fill in the date received and the owner information. It then goes on a clip board along with the Data card/s. It stays with the rig as I do the inspection and the packing. During the inspection I write done the information for each component. While packing I list each tool I remove from my kit, which is always on the other side of a short partition wall. This means I have to get up walk to the kit for each tool. It keeps me from just grabbing something out the kit and not taking time to list it. When I am working on an I&R I do not answer the door or the phone. And in my book, neatness counts. If the pin is in and rig just doesn’t look right I do it over. After a jumper drops a few thousand on a rig he has the right to expect it to look descent. I then seal the rig and count my tools. With all the rig information taken off the rig I then check it against the data card. If they match I finish the paper work and when I put the data card back I go over the handles the routing of RSL and a last visual of the container system. A copy of the check list is given to the jumper. I explain what I have done and any comments I have on the rig. I ask if he has any questions about the work done or any questions about the rig in general. Even with all the checks we can still make mistakes and you are only as good as you last save. A ZP hybrid reserve was manufactured and TSO’d some years ago. There were some problems the material in a reserve configuration. As was mentioned ZP is a bit stronger than a lopo material but when it fails it fails big time. F-111 or lopo type material is often referred to “rip stop” material. If you look at it closely you will see a reinforcement threads in a crosshatch pattern. This adds to the strength but as the name says it acts as a “rip stop”. If you look at ZP not all brands have that. Another problem is the silicone coating on ZP fabric tends to “brick” if packed for very long. With most countries now allowing for 6 months between re-packs it is unknown how this will effect deployment. The current testing requirements call for only about 16 days with a 200 lb load before dropping. That’s a long way from 180 days. I am not aware of any tests that have been done on ZP reserve anywhere near this time period. I am not familiar with ZPX but if it a based off of a silicone fabric I would take a wait and see attitude. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Tension knots are more prevalent with 9 cell canopies and as Rob said sloppy line control during packing. Canopies fill from the middle out and with the higher aspect ratio of a nine cell you can end up with slack lines at the outside trailing edge. Even a few loose control lines. Keeping the lines to the center of the canopy will reduce the possibility of this happening. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

After Joe was injured AERO did 2 more programs. We finished off the testing Irvin’s ATPS canopy. Attachment 1 is me doing a live jump on it down at the old El Centro Navy base. Then we tested a 3 canopy recovery system, 62’ each, for Irvin. It was for a Japanese SST. After that AERO just kinds of faded away. Joe was the spark plug that made it work. Sure do miss him. Aircraft around that time would have included a couple of DC-3's, D-18, Howard DGA and a Cesena. The pool had been build but not the new bar and restaurant. What served as a bar was the old gear room and manifest with a cold box sitting outside the back door. Here are a few pictures from the time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The rig you are talking about is made by Simula Inc. out of Tempe, AZ. There are 3 versions, There are 3 versions of the Durachute. One is in service with the Navy and Air Force as an aircrew system, the version you have for the E-2C and one for the P-3 Orion. They are or were all environmental sealed using a souped up version of a seal-a-meal that was proprietary. There were a special “O” rings that went around the risers to allow for the seal. I was involved in the testing of the system, did the TSO jumps and most of the drop tests. They were conducted over a 2 year period at AREO facilities, China Lake Weapons Center and Yuma Proving Grounds. This a video of the last test done by AERO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I41H1pmRKMw Attached is a picture of me during one of the TSO tests. It's pretty safe to say that FF is technically 'harder' than belly-flying and therefore (in groups) so is adjusting fall-rate, docking, etc... At just over 100 jumps and type of jumping is technically "harder". FF is just RW upside down. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You have the tough part figured out. It’s your life and you have to go where your heart takes you. Sure you could work as an instructor, coach or a packer but you want to turn your recreation into a job. I have seen way too many jumpers that burn out in 3 to 5 years because they lose sight of what they enjoyed about jumping in the beginning. And I have seen way too many jumpers that wake up one morning, in a beat up trailer on some DZ, look in the mirror and see a 50 year old has been and realize this is as good as it’s going to get. Some if you can make 50/60 jumps a year and enjoy them good for you. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
TSO-C23b calls for a test weight and speed that will equal 3000 shock load for “low speed’ and 5000 lb. for “standard” category. These numbers can vary from manufacture to manufacture. Attached is a page from NAS-804, the standards that in TSO-C23b. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
