Video proof of Stacy swooping a cow!!! Must see!

The post that you replied to made no mention of HIV, and if you'll continue reading this thread you'll see that I made a reference to HIV and Hepatitus, two terminal, and contagious, diseases. I'm not talking about quality of training, nor am I passing judgement on how the disease was contracted. What I am suggesting (and you'll figure this out if you keep reading), is that in certain cases that there is a moral obligation to share this information. I don't think it's important to share HIV or Hepatitus status with the waitress at the local diner. I do think it's important to share this information with someone you might get bloody with (think terrible landing with a tandem), or exchange bodily fluids with. Whoa. Now slow down there, Rocketdog. I'm not advocating that anyone be forced to walk around with a scarlet letter. This post, and line of thinking, is about safety, and a realistic representation of risk. Nothing more. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Did you check out the rest of his website? There's some pretty cool stuff there, shots that I think would be difficult to get through traditional means, and equipment. The gallery of Washington, DC is just sweet. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Which works well when you're arriving to the scene to treat someone. It doesn't work so well when skydiving becomes the full contact sport that it can. I understand that the law provides for the legal right to privacy, however I'm not concerned at this point with the law. I'm concerned with what I perceive as a moral obligation to inform someone who you might just get bloody with that you have a terminal, and contagious disease. Agreed, but that's a whole different thread.

I would certainly hope that a pilot knows enough about his aircraft to determine whether or not it is safe to fly. I don't know much about flying, but isn't the preflight check used to determine whether or not the aircraft is ready for flight? I know that my rigger has thousands of pack jobs and to the best of my knowledge he hasn't made a fatal mistake yet. I have to trust that when he puts his seal on my rig that my rig is airworthy. However, after the seal has been applied, that rig is 100% _my_ responsibility. Get to know your rigger, if you don't have 100% trust in his ability and his professionalism then it's probably time to find a new rigger. Maybe. I got mine from the back of an old comic book, not sure where she got hers. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

A packers job is to put the parachute into the bag, and then the bag into the container. That's it. That's where his responsibility ends. A riggers job is to certify that the reserve system is safe when it's sealed, and that it will likely remain that way for 120 days, or until its next use. It's my responsibility to make sure that my gear is ready, and safe, to jump. Not my packers, not my riggers. Mine. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Who is responsible for making sure that his gear is safe, and ready to jump? I could give a rat's ass who a packer is or isn't working under the supervision of. That rig (all of it, including the reserve) is my responsibility from the second I put it on until the second I take it off. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Wow. Leave it to the Air Force to mess things up. Air Force skydiving commander guy says: "Whenever there is a memorable first in skydiving, there is the tradition of... the dogpile" Where's the beer, damnit! Oh well, nothing much to see. TV host goes tandem with a bunch of Air Force Acadamy kids. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I just finished watching a video not 10 minutes ago where the tandem master had a face covered in blood. It happens. The TM should absolutely be informed. Just like the case of the TM/Student, in the case of Student/TM, it's the TMs decision to make. He has a right to know. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
-
Why not HIV, or hepatitus? Doesn't the student have a right to know that in addition to the risks of skydiving that he's also exposing himself to uncurable, and eventually terminal diseases? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

It doesn't need to be far along. It doesn't need to be outwardly apparent. You only need to be the carrier of a contagious, and terminal, disease. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Yeah, yours. Nobody made you use a packer. Nobody made you use a packer that you couldn't trust. Most people are perfectly capable of packing their own main parachute. If you flip someone a five-spot and get screwed, well, shame on you. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Rhino suggested a poll on this subject, so here it is. Does the student have a right to know that his/her tandem master has a terminal, and contagious, disease? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

There is at least one that is (or was) made with a ZP topskin and F111 bottom skin, that's the Raven-MZ. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

You're right. They probably didn't consider needing clear roads to get police, EMS, and fire crews, where they're needed. You need to think about the bigger picture here. Most likely, the factory is closed today. I don't think that Fred has to worry. I don't think that they did. Government in any form is hardly infallable, but in this case I think that they made the right decision. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

What's the big deal? That's hardly worthy of the label of Big Brother. They're trying to deal with an emergecy situation, non-essential persons on the streets are hindering their efforts. You wouldn't complain if the police or fire department cleared the area while dealing with a shootout, or a large fire, would you? I just don't see the problem. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

No, there isn't "0 risk of transmitting to someone during a tandem", the risk is small but certainly must play a factor in his decision. Considering that HIV/AIDS is a terminal illness (read: no known cure and kills every time), I think that the responsible thing to do is to quit with the tandems, but continue on with coaching and AFF (if that's a possibility). The risk is small, but the consequences are far to dire to ignore. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
