Democrats bite their own noses to spite their faces
Jimbo replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
We already have laws in place that prohibit one from carrying a gun into schools, bars, airports, etc... Again, we have laws to punish anyone who does this. Do we need more? Are more laws likely to prevent your example? If you're shooting in your back yard (a big no-no in most parts of the US) and shoot out your neighbors window then (a) you probably have homeowners insurance to cover the damage, and (b) you're probably going to face criminal charges. No new laws needed here. Bad parts? Like what? Maintenance? Guns and cars require maintenance, it's up to the owner of each to take care of that. An agreement not to use either in an irresponsible or dangerous manner? We have laws to punish those who use either in an irresponsible or dangerous manner, nothing new there. The point of this entire post is that we already have laws to punish those who use guns irresponsibly or in a dangerous manner. Do we need more? Will they help? I don't think so, criminals are criminals - all the laws in the world won't stop them. Modern "gun control" seems similar to the pre-emptive policy that the US has taken towards countries that sponsort terrorism. It's interesting, most of the people arguing for gun control are the same ones who denounce the US policy of pre-emptive attacks on countries that sponsor terrorism. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. I know of at least one DZ that does (or did) things this way, it's nice. However I don't think it that this solution is even remotely practical for any of the larger DZs. Tickets aren't so bad, at least not once you get used to them. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

This forum's guidelines are getting fuzzy...
Jimbo replied to BigM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That, or the forum's title needs to be changed. "General Skydiving Discussions" implies (I think), that anything skydiving related, but not suitable for another forum, belongs here. TalkBack is too busy to post anything of substance, if there aren't a lot of responses to a post it'll be on page 2 in a matter of hours. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. My thoughts on the matter. It doesn't address delivery dates, per say, it's more of a solution for lessening the blow when gear doesn't arrive 'on time'. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Exactly. Managing the tickets is a bit of an added hassle for the jumper, but in the end I think it's a win for all involved. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

It's problems like yours that have led more than one DZ to move to a ticketing system. You pay your money, you get your tickets. At that point, the transaction is over. It saves a LOT of problems for the DZ staff and their customers, I think. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Yes, only people who don't get upset should be allowed to have guns. Emotionless drones. Good idea! That's up there on my list of "Stupidest things ever said". - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Linux is a great OS for those who care to take the time to learn it, and are willing to sacrifice their mainstream apps. Linux is not a great OS for the majority of PC users. PJ has already demonstrated a lack of proficiency in the PC area (nothing personal PJ), why would you suggest this to him? As an aside, Wow! Talk about thread drift! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
Actually, I've always wondered about that. Bill Booth, Kelly Farrington, Brain Germain, and other influential people in skydiving all start and Newbie and work their way up the chain. Why does GG get the title of Maestro? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Knowing what a computer virus is doesn't make you intelligent, it makes you informed about modern technology and one of the problems with it. The "know-it-all" responses I've seen in this thread have come mostly (if not entirely), from the anti-gun crowd. They're the ones who seem to know what's best for me. Try it with a good quality lubricant! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

New York City's draconian gun laws don't make PA's gun laws "lax". Look to the rest of the country to get a baseline on what is and isn't "lax". - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

So only rednecks should be able to own guns? None of the weapons covered in the AWB are capable of "mowing down lots and lots of people in a short amount of time". Every weapon covered under the AWB is a single shot, one sqeeze of the trigger, one round, weapon; just like handgun or rifle I could buy from the dealer down the road. "Assault Weapons", as has been covered before, "look" scary to the anti-gun crowd. Tell me, how is a gun covered under the AWB, that is functionally the same as a gun not covered under the AWB, any more dangerous than any other gun? Well, you're finally starting to give it some thought, that's the best anyone can hope for, I suppose. Yes, currently we say "no" to the scary looking ones. That's been debated before, most reasonable people agree that ICBMs are not covered under the second amendment. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Quade, who are you to say what is and isn't appropriate for concealed carry or home defense? What are your qualifications in this matter? From Michele's post: The 10 round limit on any weapon today is a part of the AWB; how is having more than 10 rounds inappropriate for home defense? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends.
