Isn't that price fixing? Didn't a few of the record labels recently agree to pay a small fortune to settle a similar case? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Considering that it's a money back gaurantee I would imagine that that's the case. But what have you got to lose? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Icarus has a 31 day unconditional money back gaurantee. Not exactly a demo program, but a pretty nice deal IMO. If you're really concerned about it why don't you call them? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I couldn't agree more with this. I've never been a big fan of girls wearing makeup, on or off the dropzone. I prefer the 'natural' look, it's what's inside that counts anyway. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I've been using skybands for 2 years now and have never experienced a problem that could be attributed to their use. I notice broken skybands on my bag quite often, not as often though as the generic rubber bands. Skybands seem to be easier on the hands too. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Make your own. It isn't that difficult and the beauty is that you can make it exactly the way _you_ like it. What could be better? That reminds me, I need to go out and find about 15 pounds of honey. Mmmmm.... - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Assuming that both canopies are in trim there should be no significant difference. If anything, the new canopy should fly a little better than the old one, but given that it's a Spectre I wouldn't expect much. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

You'll notice though that I didn't say anything about the operator, what I did say was that just because I'm givin permission to stand in a dangerous place doesn't mean that I'll do it. BTW: Are you suggesting that anyone from the helicopter crew gave Tim permission to be standing where he did? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Yes. Just because I've been given permission to stand in the path of a moving blender doesn't mean that I'm going to, or required to do it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

How much compassion are we to show someone who damn near killed an entire load of jumpers, a pilot, and co-pilot? Come on, this guy stepped in front of a moving helicopter putting not only his life in jeopardy, but the lives of everyone on the helicopter as well. It's unfortunate that he died, but he gets no compassion from me and neither does his now lawsuit happy family. Additional safety measures like keeping their selfish family (or ex family) member from putting himself and an entire load of jumpers and crew in danger? No safety measure in the world will prevent the truly stupid from injuring themselves or others. Gary was asked several times on rec.skydiving to provide us with any additional information, every time he declined. Gary will be judged by his peers, in this case skydivers. If Gary wants to be judged on 'all the facts' as he sees them then it would be prudent for him to provide 'all the facts'. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm no expert, but... It sounds to me as though you were in control the entire time, that's a good thing and shows that you were aware of your situation. Had you let the toggles up all the way you probably would have crashed and that would of course be bad. I'm no expert, but I agree with your assessment that you would have likely come down harder than necessary had you simply held the toggles and waited for the canopy to come down on its own. It's all about flying the canopy until it's stopped and it sounds to me as though you did exactly that. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

It won't, but in the incidents mentioned in the first post were talking about accidents or deaths that have already happened. There is no attempt made to prevent _those_ accidents. Actually, I disagree. When someone jumps a canopy that is too small and fast for their experience level and then hooks himself into the ground by initiating a 360 riser turn at a 300 ft then I think that person needs to be called a dumbass, a fuckup, or an idiot. That calls attention to someone and the major mistake they made a whole lot more than saying "Joe was jumping a canopy that was way to small and fast and unfortunately had a bad landing, he's not doing so well right now". Which one will you remember? There are some cold hard truths in this sport and serious injury and death are certainly one of them, let's not sugar coat reality to make it more comfortable, that is the real disservice. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Does it matter? Is it so important to put a real name to a screen name? Does not doing so make the point any less valid? Some people are more comfortable behind whatever amount of anonymity the 'net provides. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I haven't yet seen the latest issue of Skydiving, but this got me thinking. Why do people get so upset when we call another skydiver a dumbass or an idiot for making, well, a dumbass, or idiot move? Someone was trying to impress his girlfriend with an extra low swoop - if this is who I think it is then this guy was certainly a dumbass and an idiot. Stoned and then plant yourself into the pond, yeah, another dumbass or idiot move. Walking into the chopper blade? I don't know exactly how that happened, but all accounts point again to a person losing his life because he was being a dumbass. There, I said it. Why does it bother people so much to call a spade a spade? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

0:5:0 Saturday was a good day, weather was nice, people and jumps were great. Stuck at work for now, but I'll get comp time for this so I'll probably make it out on Wesnesday and get in a few cheap jumps. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

That depends entirely on your skills and your ability to handle less than ideal opening and landing conditions. These things are easy to deal with on the Spectre, they'll get a bit more interesting on the Stilleto. Why have you decided on the Stilleto? Why have you decided on the 135? If you're seriously considering getting a new canopy then do yourself a favor and demo, demo, and demo again. There are a wide range of ellipticals out there (Stilleto, Crossfire, Diablo, Cobalt, Samuari, Vengeance, I'm sure there are more) - available in a wide range of sizes, it would be in your best interests both as a skydiver and a consumer to demo as much as you can before you make the final decision. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Are you suggesting that by jumping at a larger DZ with lots of loads that one sacrifices fun? Are you suggesting that jumping at a DZ with fewer loads is more fun (sacrificing loads for fun?) BTW: If it were me I'd probably head of to Raeford, I'm not a big fan the Casa. However, be sure to head out to CSS for the Thanksgiving Boogie - that's always a TON of fun. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
