Most everywhere I've jumped the answer is YES. You lost their property. You have to replace it. Why should they be out something you rented? Personal experience: I was fliming my first CReW jump (I was behind the 2-way of Instructor and CReW student). They had a double wrap and both had to cutaway. Over the 'bad' part of town. The student's canopy was lost. Local spirited it away and we couldn't track it down. Student had to buy a new CReW canopy because they had borrowed it from the gear store. He did, however, ask how old the canopy was and was able to replace it with a similar in age one...instead of a brand-spanking new one. However, that was worked out between the gear store and the student. Yes, yes she is! Now they have to come up with a proper name for her. Something other than "Blue Shark". "Shark Air" is our first shark, properly named because her tail number ends in "SA". That is not a '65. It is a '68. Well, okay then. To my unpracticed eye it looks like the same model. I'm sure you can tell me the differences. On my way to the DZ today and what was right across from the local Starbucks? A whole lot of BEAUTIFUL vintage Mustangs. My favorite? This '65 model. The exact color as well. "Papa Victor" came up for it's 49,000 rotation maintenance need, so she got new wings and stuff. Ben and Pat also decided to step up and give her a new look too! PV is now their newest Shark! Paint job is almost done. Still have her eyes and teeth painting to do. She's already a beauty!
