  2. The Ethical Debate It's worth having a 'Living Will' written and legally filed, to have -your- wishes adhered to. A Gift from the Cruzan Family. A guide in how to go about making -your- will known. ltdiver edit to add link for information Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. There was a case back in the late 1980's that sparked this same debate. It was involving a woman, Nancy Cruzan who had been in a single car crash where she was thrown from the vehicle and lay face down in 2 inches of water and drowned. A passer by, just a few minutes later, came to her 'aid' and did CPR and revived her. For the next 7 years she remained in a vegetative state, hooked up to life support. Her family fought to have life support removed, and after a decade+ won the right. The feeding tube had to remain in, though. The day arrived that the life support was indeed removed (after a multitude of court battles) and they waited for this woman to cease breathing. ALL the staff were amazed when she continued to breath...and her heart continued to beat! She continued to 'live'. But, sadly, in a persistant vegetative state. The court battles that ensued thereafter were heart rending. The feeding tube removal the issue. The family wanted it removed. The 'state' did not. Then came to the forefront, the definition of 'true brain death'. Higher brain death vs lower brain death. The medical field's definition was that death occured ONLY when the heart stopped beating. Here is a paper that might explain it. I, for one, would want to be let go if my 'higher brain' or cortex were to be determined by PET scan to be non-functional. The 'lower brain' or brain stem can continue to function....and the heart will beat, the lungs will function. But, there are no brain waves. THIS CAN BE DETERMINED. Read Here. ltdiver edit to include Nancy Cruzan's name Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. Of course. f16 will get you a much deeper focal length than f3.5. However, with shooting at ISO 200 in the afternoon at Perris, I was surprised that at 200 shutter speed (Program 2) the default was f5.6. Thus, a shorter depth of field. And why the 200 shutter speed? Was using fill flash because there was back light the way the landing pattern was. I could not focus at infinity and keep swoopers in focus at all. It had to be dialed in a bit, but then one swooper coming directly at me had his knees in focus buy not his face! Photo was taken at f14, shutter speed 125. ltdiver btw, the photo file transfer doesn't do it justice here... Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  5. What, the 'older' version doesn't work like the new 40 GB release? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  6. So, I asked the salesman at CompUSA last month about the ability to upload pictures from a digital camera to an iPod. He said it wasn't able to do that (yet). Well!!!! Apple finally did it! NOW you can upload your CF card to a portable HD (and not spend the $$ on a new laptop). Then upload to your home computer when you get home! iPod Media Reader ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. At last Apple has completed the Window's version of iTunes! Download it and have a HUGE list of music to download and enjoy! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  8. And here I thought I was so clever when I adopted this technique this weekend... Is it just me, or does this new camera (300D) have a real sensitive focal point when you use the 18-55 lens that comes in the kit? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. wow.... and to think today you can get a top o th eline 300wat psu for like 50 bucks............ or was that having them install it too???? Installation, of course, was the larger part of the 'bargain'. It was a 'learning' experience for sure. I thought that a surge protector was all that a machine needed. What a ditz.... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

  11. Speaking of games....the new 40 GB HD iPod has a game called "Parachute". Helicopters fly overhead and you try and shoot them down with your cannon. If you don't get them all, paratroopers jump out and deploy (making it their goal to land on the ground next to you and blow -you- up! What's an interesting thing that I found out...if you shoot the paratrooper, they die right there in the air. If you aim too high and get their parachute (missing the person), the 'chute desolves and the paratrooper goes into freefall and bounces! Is it morbid that I like this game? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. Listen to the folks here who advise getting a UPS! I didn't have one last year and FRIED my computer's power supply when a power outage happened here at my home. (I did have a surge protector, but that's not for power outages and the like). It cost over $200 to replace the computer's power supply and I was so VERY lucky to have all my files still intact when I turned my now new power supply on. I ran out and bought a very nice UPS and now all my important equipment is plugged into it. It's just NOT worth it to risk the damage. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

  17. Found this web page that clocks music's one hit wonders, nicely catagorized by decade. Did you know that Bernadette Peters had a hit in the 80's called "Gee Whiz"?! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

I had a good weekend though and finally got my DSL hooked up and installed so that is a good thing. Well, looks like you have a '1' in the last column there, mouth! First time hooking up with a DSL! 22. Anyone who's jumped at Jean, NV's DZ knows how powdery thick that dust is there. Well, the dirt under the tunnel is just that way, only worse. I really wonder about that. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. Oh, definitely they will do just that before the end of the month when it's operational. My tour guide mentioned several times about what wire was going where and why. Even something about 'moon walking'... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  24. All I know is that's the system that controls the whole shebang. I looked, but didn't touch, in my executive personal tour this weekend.
