Don't do going away, do side to side. Left to right or right to left. With the plan coming from your left to your right (or right to left), roll the plane right so that it is topside towards you/bottom away. You will need to apply rudder that is away from the ground....Easy way to learn which is which: Take the transmitter and imagine it laying on its side with the antenae pointing in the same direction as the line of flight....Give the rudder in the direction of "UP" if the transmitter was laying over. Afetr a while it will become natural and then you can learn belly in knife edge. You will most likley need to couple aileron with the rudder since I don't think your rudder is "full size". Meaning that from the center of the fuse it does not extend below the center much at all. So when you apply rudder, it will try and roll out of the knife edge....So you will have to apply aileron to keep it in the knife edge and maybe some elevator as well. So on your plane going from the left to the right with the top facing you, you will have: 1. Left rudder 2. Right aileron 3. Up elevator. (Maybe down...I don't think about it much anymore....You'll have to play to fiqure it out....You'll know if you have it wrong pretty quickly ) And speed is your friend, and it takes less rudder than you might think, and more rudder just makes you have to couple the other controls more. The answerto this question is simply...when you want to. Its not like its gonna kill you if you dork it in. All the "pro" mode does is increase the roll and pitch rates and remove the "auto pilot". If you are flying around fine, and are thinking that the plane feels sluggish....Go pro. But if you are not comfertable with it, staying in the other mode will not hamper you. Only not flying because your plane is in little pieces will really hamper you. 4. You had to go to "Maggot"? Where is the age reference in that? Sheesh...I'm starting to think you are getting old....Oh wait, never mind. Good one Gramps "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  5. Sure you will...When you get ready, some shiny thing will flash in the sunlight and you will forget everything but, "Must get the shiny thing!" "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  6. Ah, my bad. Sorry...I saw a chance to call Sparky old and I had to take it. See Sparky and I had some heated exchanges years ago....Kind like you just did. Now I kinda like the guy and we insult each other for fun...I mean he might have undies as old as me...I am not that old, and he is no way near young. And either way, the earth will still spin and people will still have opinions..... BTW the internet really sucks as a communication tool for a good deal of things. My sarcasim is MUCH funnier in person. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  7. Or other good ways: 1. Listen to people who have the experience and are willing to tell you. This requires an open mind and willingness to admit that others know more and are trying to help you. 2. Take baby steps to find out your limits. If you have never jumped in 15 MPH winds, but have done 14 MPH...Well in good conditions at your home DZ it might be OK to push the limit a little. But be very careful. Going from 14 to 20 would not be a good choice. This however takes time, and a lot of people don't have that kind of patience. So we get cool sayings like, "When its windy the experienced stand down and watch the inexperienced get experienced". A combination of Bills half joke (common sense), listening to the experienced, and taking baby steps will save you tons of pain. BTW, had a Mal Sunday at a new to me DZ....They made me fill out an incident report. I thought it strange at first....I mean come on, its just a mal. But on deeper thought it made me realize how safety focused this Dz is. Oh yeah...I dorked the landing. Stood it up, but it was NOT pretty. 8. That is the FUNNIEST thing I have heard in quite some time. You clearly don't know him. He is old as hell (put Jesus out on a SL I think), but in no way "a ball of testosterone". I kinda got the same message. Maybe its not what you *intended* but it was what was received. Now that could be how it was sent, or the problem of who got it. But if more than one person received it in the same manner...Could it be it was sent poorly? Not what I got from her postings...Just a lady that cares about saftey. He does say that. But, out of all the people I know that have quit, none thought they would two years out. So, it is possible you will not be. I think you are inquisitive. But I think your way of expressing it might need work (Hey folks, yep that was *me* that said that...Who'da thunk it?" Just because YOU got hurt does not make it unsafe. I know a few jumpers that land that way almost all the time and never got hurt doing it. A good number of my Tandem landings I butt slide and never hurt myself or the student *yet* (notice I don't even claim it will never happen? I can't make such a claim since I might just screw up, or some bad juju might just happen. Nope, wanting to improve is the first step. And not being able to stand up is a pretty good sign that canopy control could use work. But that does not make it *dangerous*. And by insulting those that do seems to be bad form. I mean you said about you "You really know nothing about me...my age, life experiences, education, motivations etc. All you know is I made a post about poor landings (actually I used the word crap) - based towards no particular individual - and it ruffled your, and your buddies, sensitive feathers. " But you know nothing about why THEY land like "crap" but you pass judgement...The same thing you are upset about everyone else doing. 9. No one is arguing that. But you think they are *dangerous* and thats not the case. The young stud that thinks he knows what he is doing is MUCH more dangerous to others and himself....So I only care about dangerous skydivers. People who just ruin thier jumpsuits are not a big worry to me. My GF can't stand up and has 800 jumps. She is not dangerous and yes, I give her grief about it. But in the end she is not in danger or risking someone else. Not even close...Its just its more politically correct to be concerned about people who may break a femur or die instead of just rip up a jumpsuit. Yes. But the larger responsability lies with the hot shot that will not listen to experienced jumpers. There are experienced jumpers that don't care if the young hotshots get broken and that is a problem...But the bigger problem is the hot shot's listening to their egos over the old guys. 11. Does it matter which? Besides they will claim that it does not matter and we are just old farts...While that is true for YOU, I'm only 33 "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

  14. For the record, I also consider him to be experienced.....Old and feable, but experienced A jumper that has been around 10 years (around, not one jump a year) knows more than a guy that has been around a year. There can be exceptions, a decade guy that jumps once a mth, vs a new guy that did 500 in his first year and lives on a DZ, but even then I know hot shots that are great jumpers that don't know what a Nova is. 15. That would not make them "experienced" that would make them smart and safe. Being smart and safe will get you experience. Experience can not be learned, it must be earned. The only way to get experience is by doing, not reading. Not just by listening to others. Those will make you smarter and give a larger knowledge base. But it does not matter if you can give me the physics reasons behind a hook turn...If you don't DO them, you don't have experience with them, just knowledge. The funny thing about experience is most people want to believe they have enough. It is such a subjective topic "What makes an experienced skydiver?" To the news: Being off of student status. To the DZ: Having a license. To the organizer: A certain jump number (I was once bounced from a 8way since I didn't have 700 jumps yet, what he didn't know was my 620th jump was a 110way.) To the whuffo: One tandem To the guy with the "A" license: The guy with the "B" is experienced. Very subjective. The real answer? You know it when you see it. And if you are trying to prove you are...Then you are not. Someone once said that until you are in the sport 10 years...You are just a visitor. Of course any one with less time than that thinks that person is an idiot and "does not know my skydiving". 1,000 jumps was the old standard I grew up with. I was told that when you reach 1,000 jumps you have experienced enough to have an opinion....I didn't personally have a problem with that, but others seem to. There are always people who don't fit into any "definition". But the one example does not mean that the "rule" is wrong all the time. Someone with 10 years and 1,000 jumps may not be as good as a jumper as someone with 3 years and 1,000 jumps. But I bet the guy with 10 years knows more. A rigger with 300 jumps is more experienced than a guy with 1,000 when it comes to gear. An AFF Instructor with 600 jumps is more experienced dealing with students than a 4way guy that has 2500 jumps. Like I said before...You know experience when you see it. And you can't decide when you have it. The people around you do. So the whole exercise is pointless. My opinion? If you must have "numbers" for a general rule about general skydiving experience : 1,000 jumps or 5 years. Either shows a serious commitment to the sport. Who was on it? I thought they were just called Deland Gang....But to be honest I had just started jumping and was working on not dying still "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  17. Sorry dude...Got confused, wrong guy...Seems to happen a bunch these days. Looking into a Vacation...That or a hooker Of course don't tell the GF. 18. Yep...Been ignored and told to go away. I have tried SEVERAL times to talk to the USPA and most times been ignored...One exception, but he was ignored when he brought it up. 1. The competition rules for player coaches. 2. WL charts. (Now they seem to be acting like they care, but that was not always the case) I aways get told, "Go to the meeting" or "run for office". I can't take time off and fly to a meeting just to be ignored.....My Gf has two cats, I can be ignored sitting in my living room. 20. Wow all these nice personal attacks. Not original, not even funny, hell you are not even using new ones, but atleast you are trying.....Mommy not hug you enough? Who pissed in your cornflakes anyway? I guess you are just that much better than everyone huh? Try ADDING to a thread, and not just acting superior. 22. Aw thats kinda cute...Wrong, but cute. Give it some more time you might get it. Difference between us is I listen when people with about 5.8 times the experience I have say something. (Or about 3100 more jumps)...You instead think you know more and refuse to listen. And even think you are so right that you argue. Thinking you already know it all is a prime way of knowing if you are experienced....If you think you do know more, you are not experienced yet. But you will never convience some people thay are not something. Their ego will not let them admit they are not top dog. 23. Except it says, " is accorded authority and status by the public or their peers." Just because the USPA says its so, does not make it so. Now you could be considered an expert. Based on the knowledge you have and share...Even without a rating. I find it funny that those that self proclaim to be experts rarely are, and those that are experts (or experinced" don't normally try and prove it to others. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  24. Its not the USPA's place to "approve" a DZ. I think only one DZ ever had the USPA do an inspection...and they failed. The USPA should support the new DZ since they claim to want to increase membership. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  25. And there is nothing wrong with being a newbie or as someone esle showed from a definition a "technician". I don't consider myself an expert either. All it takes for me to realise I don't have a clue is try to do a freefly jump....Yeah, I do OK flat, but on my head I am a novice. And that right there means a bunch. You love the sport, but can see other things. I see some people attack others when they quit...That always kills me. The are so engrossed that they can't look past skydiving to know that its very rarely a "forever" sport.
