when did your latest skydive take place ?
vt1977 replied to gerryfuss's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don’t think I have time to go to Empuria atm… California in April, Herc Boogie in July and then maybe Empuria in October! Vicki -
what is the most relaibly softest opening canopy?
vt1977 replied to Tinkerbelle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm glad it's not just me that thinks the Spectre snivels then pops - never a hard pop but still a pop. I've done a handful of jumps on the Aerodyne Pilot and found the openings on that very soft - hard to make a decent judgment on it with so few jumps on it though. Vicki -

Around a month and a half ago. English winters suck and are cold. I like to be warm so I tend to stay on the ground unless I REALLY need to jump! Vicki -
Ok, I looked, I swear I did...... Weekend Numbers 2/20 - 2/22

:0:0 Freezing cold and cloudy here in England . People jumped, but I like being able to feel my extremities so stayed on the ground. Had a great time in the bar on Saturday night though! Vicki -
I'm pretty sure its the same stuff... we get lemon Fanta here in the UK. And I'm coming to Perris in April.... Does that help? Vicki

The gremlin is just jealous because my Odyssey will be smaller, newer and prettier than his! Vicki

You forgot to say that it is quite possibly the most beautiful DZ in the world! I love Empuria! Vicki
-
I will be loving my Odyssey in early April!!!

IMHO it would be pretty unfair to blame the instructor after all there is nothing to stop any skydiver taking a look out the door to check the spot and at most DZs I have jumped at (even Empuriabrava where bad spots can be “interesting” to say the least!) provided you make the decision high enough, it is not too difficult to find somewhere safe to land off. Vicki PS Obviously the point about checking the spot before exit might not necessarily apply to students.

It would be a toss up between a sexy new canopy or some tunnel time… Vicki

My group are flying into GOT Landvetter but I know there will be Brits flying into City Gothenborg Airport as well, so any info on car hire from there would be v helpful too.
-
I got to demo the Pilot at Eloy and was very impressed – if you do a search you should find several threads about it.

Flights are booked and registration is paid! Any ideas where the best place is to get a cheap hire car at/near GOT airport? Vicki

When did you go over 1.4 W/L??
vt1977 replied to frankiebrina's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Likewise, I have just over 900 jumps and haven't jumped anything close to a 1.4 wingloading yet. I just don't feel the need! -
Diet Coke every time! Vicki

More to the point, IMHO the potential danger with full faces (particularly in a UK winter) is the fact that they can mist or even ice over. This does happen less with Z1s than some other brands but can still happen. A certain amount of experience is required to deal with that situation, particularly if the helmet does not have a flip up visor. Another potential (and real) problem with full face helmets, is that you go from being able to easily see your cutaway and reserve handles with an open face helmet to being almost unable to see them with a full face. To me, a more sensible full-face requirement would be 100 jumps and successfully completed suspended harness drills wearing such a helmet. Vicki
-
What colour?! I still fail to see how 5 pre-declared landings within 10 metres somehow magically qualifies you to wear a full face helmet! Vicki
-
Can’t say I do – I lived in a house that was number 13 for many years and I enjoyed living there. Vicki
-
What he means is that you need a B licence to jump a full face helmet in the UK (one of the BPA’s more stupid rules, IMHO) and a C licence to jump a frap hat. Vicki

I have downsized slowly from PD170, to Sabre 150, to Sabre 135 and am now on a Spectre 135. I recently had the chance to chat with a guy who had done some test jumps on a Katana and asked him a few questions along the lines of “What is it like?” and “How different is it from a Stiletto?” and… “Would I be stupid to try one?”… I was told that it was a very nice canopy, but closer in performance to a Velocity than a Stiletto and therefore it would probably not be a good canopy for me to try at the moment (with 900+ jumps). If your profile is correct, you have less than 100 jumps. Have fun learning about your current canopy, take a canopy control course and really get to know that canopy. Have fun and stay safe! Vicki

Too right! Vicki

Not too sure about a bonfire, but there is a huge bbq on site and it is quite likely if you ask nicely that they’ll do one for you. In fact, they might well do one anyway! Vicki

So Macca… what fun and general entertainment are you planning for the Nethers boogie? I think we need a DZ.com cocktail... Vicki

Well that too…
