  1. Who manufactured the Delta Parawing? Arrive Safely John
  2. For all of our Cat A/B jumps, one person talks to them on the radio from the ground. 95% of the time that's the School Owner/Chief Instructor. One of the two AFFI's also carries a radio so he can help with radio guidance in the event of an off DZ landing. Arrive Safely John

  7. One thing is for certain: if you post a request for advice here, you are going to get some that you didn't expect or perhaps don't even like. Some of it makes you downright uncomfortable or mad. The reality of it is that those bits of advice that raise your hackles are often exactly what you need to hear. Lisa Briggs' reply to another poster in your thread was factual, and framed by a strong desire not to see yet another member of the skydiving community wreck themselves or worse because of making poor choices. Lisa cares about the sport and those in it - people just like you and me. She has gone to great lengths to contribute to the sport through her extensive input to this online community, to include writing articles, long meaty posts and replies, and moderating this very forum before I was asked to take her place. If you choose not to post anymore, so be it - this community dynamic is not for everyone. Most people who make those statements stick around and find a way to fit in here - my hope is that you can become one of those using lessons learned from this thread. Arrive Safely John
  8. Your question about PD F-111 mains has already been answered. PD makes two types of reserves: the PD Reserve and the Optimum Reserve. A 176 sq ft PD Reserve is referred to as a PD176R. The Optimum is a new low-bulk reserve only made in sizes from 99 to 143 square feet. Arrive Safely John

  12. Have an instructor video three of your landings from the ground. Review the video with the instructor first, then take it home a replay it to digest what you have learned. If you can manage to take a canopy piloting course, like the one Scott Miller teaches all over the place, it will greatly benefit your canopy piloting performance. You will learn more about what makes the canopy fly and what different jumper inputs do in a multitude of situations. Arrive Safely John

  20. The true name of that helmet is the MC-3 helmet; it was part of the MC-3 ensemble, which included a militarized Paracommander and chest mounted reserve. The MC-3 has been out of service since about 1986. Nobody calls it that though, they call it a bunny helmet as you said. There are not many left around anymore. Arrive Safely John
  21. PAs are not tolerated in the forums. Feel free to post your opinion on the technique/behavior, but please leave the insults out of it. Arrive Safely John
  22. A simple solution is a set of knee or elbow pads. You can get them at a sporting goods store. You'll want them to be oblong rather than square, and the type (knee or elbow) just depends on how big you are and how big you need them to be. Route the leg straps through the pads and you have what you need. Of course, you will want to get persmission from your Instructors before you do anything to the equipment. Arrive Safely John

  24. Everyone: this discussion is bound to get intense (it already has), since 1) it is the #1 controversial subject in the US skydiving community right now, and 2) locations are entering into it which bring out "geographic prejudice." Please keep the conversation civil and think before you post. virgin-burner: although taking a poke at the instructors at DeLand is not technically a PA according to the Forum Rules, the fact that you made it without backing it up is extremely bad form. If your profile is correct, you have a lot to learn . . . regarding this issue and the skydiving world at large. I don't know if you have visited DeLand from Switzerland . . . if not I suggest you check it out for yourself before you make such statements. freefalle: [warning] PAs are not allowed in the forums. I removed two from your reply to virgin-burner. [/warning] Arrive Safely John
