I had a set of aluminum ones that were given to me long ago - they were just OK. They got nicked very easily. I had a set of plastic ones - they were horrible. They broke at the threads. I gave up on buying some, and asked a friend of mine who is a machinist to make me some out of steel based on some dimensions I got from a guy at Para Flite. The piano wire t-handle fingertrapping tool I use for Spectra was a gift from a friend in the industry. Arrive Safely John

The Eagles first true studio effort since 1979. Two CDs; 20 songs. Worth the buy if you like The Eagles, even a little. I have been eagerly awaiting its release for a couple of months now. Gone is Don Felder who was fired after the 1994 live album (+) Hell Freezes Over. Back are the incredibly tight harmonies (their voices have gotten better with age), the distinctive difference in guitar craft between Glenn Frey & Joe Walsh, and the continued grounding in their mellow country rock roots. JD Souther even returns to pen their first hit, "How Long," which was a video release on CMT a couple of months ago. I was really concerned that after all this time this would basically be a collection of solo projects that the players came together to record - this is far from it. You can easily pick out the Henley and Frey and Walsh songs, but there are some good ones written by non-Eagles as well. Musically, I feel the highlight is the title track, a 10 minute epic. It is complex and very well done. Vocally, the highlight is "Do Something," which I think is Timothy B's best vocal performance yet - and the harmony is sheer perfection. Lyrically, I enjoyed "Waiting in the Weeds;" I am a sucker for a sad song, and that one is outstanding. Retroactively, I think "I Don't Want To Hear Any More" reminds me the most of the smooth Eagles sound from long ago, although I would like to have heard Glenn Frey share the lead vocal. Surprisingly, there is an instrumental, which I don't recall ever seeing on an Eagles album. I could do without the obvious presence of Don Henley's political lyrics (which seem to show up a lot in serious rock lyrics these days), but I guess the man just writes what is in his heart. I am just not used to digesting that kind of stuff from this group, although Henley's stuff had been leaning that way recently. And, as with any double album, there seem to be a couple that could have been left on the cutting room floor. Thus is the stuff albums are made of. Strangely enough, for the first year of sales this album is only available through Wal Mart, Sam's Club, or online order through http://www.eaglesband.com. I made the mistake of pre-ordering through the website, thinking that the shipment date of 26 October would allow enough time for it to arrive by the 30 October release date. That one still has not arrived I went and bought one at Wal Mart tonight instead and will use the other as a Christmas gift. Now I'm waiting to see where I'll be able to see them live . . . WHo are the others in the lineup photo? I was at Ft. Bragg then, but I was a GB Clubber at the time. I didn't start jumping at the 82nd Club until 1989. Arrive Safely John -

Today I received an email from the manufacturer's US representative regarding the OP's issue with their Vigil. I was asked to post a reply on her behalf to this thread. TO do so while leaving it locked did not seem like the fair thing to do, SO . . . I removed the pissing contest, and have added the manufacturer's input in the next reply. I have also unlocked the thread so it can continue . . . mikempb and bigway: please don't let this turn into another dirt throwing match. Take any heated arguments to PMs. Arrive Safely John

I was very surprised at the sweep, and disappointed that Colorado didn't make it more of a contest, but nevertheless I am elated at the victory. I rode the roller coaster for a long time (from age 10) until the curse-breaker in 2004 . . . now we know that the BoSox crew are formidable contenders to be reckoned with. Arrive Safely John

A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed, it feels an impulsion....this is the place to go now. How incredibly sad. Beezy was a fantastic guy and his sense of humor was unforgettable. He was an honorable businessman, and was a longtime contributor to this small virtual community as well. Rest easy, brother . . . Arrive Safely John

Ice? Arrive Safely John

If you like oranges, try a double shot of Bacardi O on the rocks (lotsa ice to make it nice and cold) with two slices (or one chunk) of orange in it. The fruit takes just enough of the bite out of it to make it quite enjoyable without any mixer at all. I also like Mojitos, made to taste. I learned to make them this summer from the recipe on the Bacardi website . . . I ignored the "parts of this parts of that" advice and just experimented with two pitchers until I liked the result. My fave is a rum from Belize called "1 Barrel" - a close second is "Barcelo Anejo" from Republica Dominicana. Both of those are incredibly smooth . . . all you need is some ice (do I see a pattern here ). Arrive Safely John

Youk sits out game 3: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071026&content_id=2283817&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos Arrive Safely John

So . . . who will the BoSox sit out in game 3 because there is no DH in the National League park? Three possibilities thrown out there in a poll on Fox last night were Ortiz, Youkilis, and Lowell. You could pull Youkilis and let Papi play 1st, but Youkilis is batting over .400 in the post season. You could pull Lowell and let Youkilis play third, but he has been a steady post season contributor as well. You could bench Papi, but not only is he a monster with the bat (especially delivering clutch hits in pressue situations), but he has an eagle eye and draws a lot of walks - read: he is a frequent base runner for Mannylocks to move around.
