skydiving weather website
slotperfect replied to skydive4u2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I use this one religiously: http://www.usairnet.com/weather.htm Select your state in the "Launch Code" drop down, then your location in the "Get Forecast" drop down. The next screen gives you loads of GREAT information for planning. Links at the top right lead to radar images and sunrise/sunset info. Winds aloft info is also available starting from the opening page, although the selection of reporting locations is not as good. Arrive Safely John -

I just PMd you the Consumer Reports ratings for snowblowers as a PDF. None of the two-stage models are 10hp, but there are some 9 and 9.5hp models for you to look at. Notice that the top rated model is a Toro. We had a Toro walk-behind snowblower growing up in Northeastern Vermont - while that was a long time ago, I can vouch for the Toro being a kickass piece of gear. It outlasted me in our household (over six winters) and kept on going. I hope that helps. Arrive Safely John

A couple of memorable Guinness quotes: "Long ago, the Irish saved civilization . . . then they invented Guinness and forgot where they put it." "Why was Guinness invented? Because you can't drink gin for breakfast!" Arrive Safely John

First, 10 working days is the normal turn-around time (minus shipping) for 4 and 8 year CYPRES service. With UPS Ground shipping to North Carolina it normally is back in my hands on two weeks. I know this from experience - like diablopilot I have shipped numerous CYPRES AADs to SSK for service. I have also been to SSK in Lebanon, Ohio and seen the service department to witness CYPRES units in the process of being serviced. That trip included watching Cliff Schmucker zap an operational CYPRES with a tazer gun to demonstrate the EMI shielding of the unit. Second, if during testing a CYPRES unit needs work performed that cannot be done at SSK, it gets shipped to Airtec in Germany to be worked on at the factory. This is done at no additional expense to the customer, but it adds time to the process. I have seen CYPRES units that had to go to Germany take 4-6 weeks to return. Third, have you talked to SSK about your complaint, or have you only vented your frustrations here in this open forum? Fourth, it is your prerogative to buy whatever AAD you like for your gear. BUT, I encourage you to search the forums and do some reading about the others that are available before you make that decision. Making an informed decision is critical when choosing an AAD, and *quite frankly* based on your choice to ditch your CYPRES because of a 4-week maintenance return time I don't think you have done your homework. What causes a post to go to the recycle bin?
slotperfect replied to Jumpdude's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
A Moderator removes it from the forum and/or thread in which it was posted and puts it in the recycle bin. If there is a specific post you are asking about, you need to PM the Moderator that may have removed it. The only ones I see of yours that were recycled recently were not removed by me. In the future, please post questions like this in Suggestions & Feedback and save the General Skydiving Forum for your skydiving-related discussions. Thanks. Arrive Safely John -

I recommend a visit to your local Ed Center to sign up for a degree program with an EArmyU university. That will take a lot of your free (barracks) time and fill it with very productive activity. Arrive Safely John

This forum was created in reponse to multiple requests for a Tandem Forum, with AggieDave being the primary advocate. It was decided that broadening the topic of the forum to *all* types of instruction would create more overall value for our online community - and rightly so. In recent months, the clear line defining the purpose of this forum and the clarity of what type of content fits here have both become a bit fuzzy. This post is intended to serve as a reminder of both why this forum was created and the who and the what relating to content of discussions. Quoted from Sangiro's forum welcome thread, May 20, 2004 (bold highlights are mine): Quoted from my original post as Moderator of this forum (also May 20, 2004): Thanks for taking a minute to read this reminder, and an even bigger thanks to those of you that have provided such valuable input here in this topical forum. Cheers, Arrive Safely John

OK, here goes . . . based on the answers to all of your questions: 1) Move back into the barracks. That will allow you to use more of what you make. Living on 25% of your income sounds like self-imposed handcuffs to me. 2) Get yourself into the black financially. Bite the bullet by eating three squares in the DFAC every day, leveraging "free" or inexpensive "on-post" entertainment, consolidating trips for errands, etc. If your Commander will allow you, get a part-time job - you will use your free time to make money instead of spending it. 3) If you own a new car with tall payments, sell it and buy a roller-skate that gets great gas mileage and won't cost as much monthly. 4) Seek a reassignment that is forwarding for your career and takes you closer to a turbine DZ. Ft. Bragg & Raeford is a good example. 5) Determine the total cost of reaching the minimum requirements for USAPT. Save a third of it and buy a block of jump tickets at Chester, SC (the closest turbine DZ to FGGA). Buy a tent and weekend at the DZ if the weather looks jumpable, saving for your next block of tickets. Eat cheap, spend your money on jumps not beer & gear. If you are clear that this is your goal, and you are serious about it, you will be willing to make the short-term sacrifices in lifestyle that it requires. Good luck! Arrive Safely John

A new addition to the Alti-2 forums is a place to list lost/stolen Alti-2 altimeters: http://forum.altimaster.com/showthread.php?t=380 As always, there is the dropzone.com Stolen Gear List, which also includes a page for altimeters: http://www.dropzone.com/stolen/Altimeters/index.html Lastly, if you lose some gear, put a post up here in G&R - I usually make it a sticky for a couple of weeks. Stolen gear has been recovered because of networking through dropzone.com in the past, so it's much better than a shot in the dark. Arrive Safely John
