  1. You need a tin foil hat. The end is near. Arrive Safely John
  2. The number needs to be carefully chosen for each forum this limit is applied to. While a lower number might help the forum overall by keeping the noise down, it would also render that forum ineffective when more relevant conversations are teeming with participants after a significant event, e.g. the four Florida hurricanes a couple of years ago. There were people in the know who were posting updates, answering questions about people's status, etc. that would have easily reached any of the numbers mentioned here very quickly. 3. Alti-2 is the name of the manufacturer . . . which one of their products are you looking at? Arrive Safely John
  4. Only specified forums (e.g. Bonfire & Speakers Corner) at the site owner's discretion. Nope. Once you reach your daily limit, no soup for you! Arrive Safely John

  6. That idea actually has merit - it works well in other online forums. The same idea has been discussed among the Moderators and Sangiro. It will be interesting to see 1) how many of the folks you are talking about poke their head this thread and make a comment, and 2) what the overall opinion is among members about this potential feature. 7. When Stunts went out of business, I believe Bill Dause at the Parachute Center in Lodi, CA bought all remaining systems and parts for the Eclipse tandem system. He may have done the same with the rest of their inventory. http://www.parachutecenter.com/ Another great resource would be Handsome Dave DeWolf at ParaLoft: http://www.paraloft.com/ Arrive Safely John

  10. I will never reach that level of achievement . . . I have a bone in my foot. It would be cool if Chuckie made it up for the weekend as well. I haven't seen him in a year. Arrive Safely John
  11. It seems that way - Jack's Dad sitting in the chair and the eye that popped into the broken window and scared the crap out of Hugo. Arrive Safely John
  12. I didn't say he was Jacob . . . I said he was the man Hurley saw sitting in the chair. http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/02/lost_who_was_that_in_the_rocki.html Arrive Safely John

  15. That is the liner that is mandatory for jumping a ProTec in the Army. It is HORRIBLE! It only comes in two sizes and gets hard as a rock when it's cold. I recommend ordering ProTec brand replacement liner. Square1 has them for $15.00: http://www.square1.com/manufacturers/square1/p1034.asp Arrive Safely John

  19. Forum Search Results I have done this myself - to a new container before putting the AAD/canopies into it. I did my homework beforehand, talking to the rig manufacturer and Handsome Dave DeWolf. Here is my input in a few threads on the subject: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=forum_6&search_string=scotch+guard&search_type=AND&search_fields=sb&search_time=&search_user_username=&sb=score&mh=50 Arrive Safely John

  22. This is a post that I stick to the top of the General Forum when I get a rash of threads I have to move because they were posted in the wrong topical forum. You may find it informative regarding your assessment of the dropzone.com community, especially this reply from Sangiro. I can tell you that this reflects real life; I have been a part of two organizations that grew very quickly over time. One of them stayed ahead of its own growth by segmenting itself internally to remain effective; the other was more reactionary after the fact. The first maintained its intimacy and relationships, the second struggles to do so. These folks are not just in skydiving . . . they are on the highways, in the workplace, etc. That is sad to hear. Of course I respect your decision, but I think that those effects are more significant at some DZs more than others (although nowhere is completely immune) - thus is human nature. The overall size of the audience - I agree. Our internal segmenting to allow for the growth - I disagree. Arrive Safely John
  23. Your estimate is a little high, although your recycled post tally is higher than most. That will be nice to see - I enjoy the funny ones that aren't completely out of hand. I am shocked, honestly, and pleasantly surprised. Here's to that 2008 you talked about! Arrive Safely John
