My favorite exit of all time was dropping straight down feet first, facing aft, out of the bomb bay of a B-17 Flying Fortress. Arrive Safely John

Can you twist up a drouge, to the point that it wont collaspe?
slotperfect replied to 321seeya's topic in Gear and Rigging
When I was jumping Vectors, I would take the twists out on every jump. If you take them out often, it won't turn into a major effort. Arrive Safely John -

Can you twist up a drouge, to the point that it wont collaspe?
slotperfect replied to 321seeya's topic in Gear and Rigging
On a Vector Tandem Rig with the tubular kill line, if you don't take the twists out of it routinely it can cause knots that cause the drogue not to collapse completely. I'm not familiar enough with Strong rigs to comment. Arrive Safely John -

So you want to do something about Skyride?

Let's keep the ideas going in this thread. Arrive Safely John -
When I first came in the Army the regulations allowed two beers with lunch. There were military sponsored clubs all over Ft. Bragg, some with GoGo Dancers (clothed). Riggers from my first unit would go out for lunch, have their two beer limit with their cheeseburger at the club, then go back to work packing parachutes! Shortly after that the regulations changed, and the clubs on post stopped serving alcohol to anyone in uniform until after 1600 hours. The Clubs? The Green Beret Club, the NCO Club, and the Officers' Club are the only ones left that I know of. The All American Club, Red Beret Club, Dragon Club, Yntema Club, and STRAC Lounge are all closed down. Arrive Safely John

What can we do about Skyride?
slotperfect replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is a very important thread for those of us who skydive in the U.S. It is critical for this thread to remain civil and objective. Please keep it from elevating to personal attacks, keep it on topic, and keep it free from "noise." Unnecessary pointed comments that could spark a flame war and destroy the thread will be edited or removed. Cheers. Arrive Safely John -
There is no additional cost for the units sent back to Germany.

True statement for the CYPRES 1. Battery replacement is necessary at the 2/4/6/8/10 year marks. The statement is not true for the CYPRES 2. The power supply is designed to last the entire 12 year/3 month service life of the unit. If an issue with the power supply is found during the 4/8 year service, Airtec/SSK absorbs the cost of the replacement (confirmed via telephone with SSK today). Maintenance costs have never increased for the CYPRES. SSK says they have no immediate plans to increase costs. Some units that do not pass the battery of tests performed at SSK require shipment to Airtec GmbH in Germany for further testing, repair, and completion of service. There is no additional cost for those few units that require shipment to Germany. Arrive Safely John

Correct! CYPRES 2 FAQ Arrive Safely John

You can remove the battery replacement costs from your list. The CYPRES2 doesn't require a bettery change over its 12-year service life.

Understandable to a degree, but in my opinion your Instructors at some point during your progression should have taught you the differences between the three models and how to idetify them. Again, your Instructors should have handled this for you. They bear the largest part of that responsibility. Besides, the CYPRES may have been in a location where you were unable to switch it off yourself anyway. You and me both! I hope I never stop learning in this wonderful sport of ours!

rangersergant - Sparky means it would be helpful for both yourself and us if you completed your profile. It gives us an idea of who we are talking to, helps us believe that you are a legitimate forum participants (there are some phonies here), and helps lend you some credibility here in the forums no matter what your experience level is. From the CYPRES 1 User's Guide: Be careful in assuming that because you got away with it a couple of times because your Instructors chose not to follow the manufacturer's instructions that it will never happen to anyone. What you say is true of the Expert & Tandem CYPRES models. It is common these days for skydiving schools to have Expert models in their student gear. Is it possible your student rigs during your AFF training had Experct CYPRESs installed? Arrive Safely John
