My father died in September. He left us very specific instructions as to how he would like to be remembered. It actually made things very easy for my Mom and I. Dad knew the Lord, but did not want a funeral. He wanted us to have a party. So, we rented a beautiful private dining room at a local inn, invited all of his family and friends, and called it exactly that: a celebration of life. We had two easels full of pictures, from when he was a baby to recent ones (he was two weeks from his 80th birthday). My four siblings and I read some poetry, some of which Dad wanted read, and a dear family friend who is a Pastor "officiated." We also allowed anyone else who wanted to say a few words to do so. That was a great comfort to me and my brothers & sisters. The next day the family took his ashes to the summit of his favorite mountain and his earthly body became part of the Blue Ridge Mountain winds. Having friends, family, or "extended family" (of which there were many) together to tell stories and laugh about life was one of Dad's favorite things to do. He didn't like formal settings, although he navigated them very well. It was a perfect way to tell him goodbye, and I would not change a thing. I'm happy to PM you my phone number if you want to talk more about it. Arrive Safely John

Has any TM ever taken a paraplegic on a tandem before?
slotperfect replied to TALONSKY's topic in Instructors
There is a good pamphlet on the subject, called "Tandem Skydiving With Wheelchair Dependent Persons" by Paul Murphy. It was a seminar at the 1995 PIA Sympsium. I think Relative Workshop has them for sale: dorothy@relativeworkshop.com Or you may be able to order it from the Australian Parachute Federation: apf@apf.asn.au Arrive Safely John -

Tunnel training prior to AFF will help you immensely. You will learn skills like: -a comfortable free fall body position -leg awareness -how to stay in one place -how to deploy a (imaginary) parachute from a stable body postion -how to fall faster and slower -how to move forward and backward -how to make controlled turns Arrive Safely John

I always lock my doors, top up or down. In either scenario, if I have something I would rather not lose, I lock it in the trunk, the center console, or the glove compartment. Out of sight, out of mind. When the top is down and the doors are locked, if someone reaches into the car and either opens it with the door handle or pulls up on the lock button, the panic alarm goes off. I don't park the car outside for lon periods of time with the top down, especially if it's windy - too much dust to clean on the inside. Arrive Safely John

Suicide = the act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind (Merriam-Webster) Your argument could result in an intellectual conversation, albeit inappropriate for this forum (it belongs in Speakers' Corner due to the religious theme). However, your post will likely not receive serious consideration here, or result in serious, well thought out, objective replies (contributing to the intellectual conversation) unless you fill out your profile. Troll = A person who makes posts (on newsgroups or other forums) that are solely intended to provoke responses from others, or to cause annoyance or offense. A post that is intended to incite controversy or cause offense. (Wikipedia) -You registered today -You have no profile (so nobody knows you are) -You have one post -Your only post is highly controversial Ying - I'm locking the thread for now. Fill out your profile and send me a Private Message (PM that you have done so. Then I will unlock the thread and move it to Speakers Corner where it belongs. Arrive Safely John

I have seen that name more than once in my 20.5 years in the Army. Uncommon, but shows up in our military "melting pot" now and again. Arrive Safely John

It was just OK. My kids (who have read some or all of the books) said it was not really true to the books. The baby made the movie! What a hoot! The other kids' characters were good as well, and I liked some of the others. Jim Carrey was just OK in this one. I'm with you on the 2.5 star rating. Looks worthwhile, even though Leonardo DiCaprio is not on my favorite actors list. I can't imagine that this remake could even touch the 1965 original, which was packed with an all-star cast: James Stewart, Sir Richard Attenborough, Ernest Borgnine, Peter Finch, Hardy Kruger, George Kennedy. The IMDb listing gives it a user rating of 7.6 out of 10, which is right on in my opinion. At 2 hours 22 minutes, it's also a long one for that era. My 13 year old son wants to see it. I told him we would rent the original, then go the the remake in the same day. Then he gets to tell me which one he liked better. To me this is a perfect opportunity to introduce my son to appreciating older films. I still want to see National Treasure, which will probably be my first in order that I go see during the holiday slowdown. Arrive Safely John

PIA Symposium 2005 - DZ.com Roll Call!
slotperfect replied to slotperfect's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'm waiting on my schedule to get sorted out to determine whether I will have any time to actually skydive while I'm there. If I do, I will likely go to the DZ that has the PAC 750XL at that ,pmemt in time. Arrive Safely John -

My wife and I share email at home. If I have something I don't want her to see, usually receipt and shipping information for a gift I have bought her, I send it here to my DZ.com email account. She knows my password here, but it's very unliely she would check it. I have lots of email accounts for various purposes, some of which she doesn't have access to. She knows it and doesn't really care. I have one at work, one for travelling, and a webmail address for traffic with my online college courses. She has one as well, at work. I know her password there but never check it - it's all for her! Arrive Safely John

That SUCKS! That's why I don't fly with gear anymore - personal, military, other otherwise. I ship it. Assuming the SDAZ Rigger Loft is operational again, it is my opinion that you should box it up, ship it via FedEx or UPS to their location, coordinate the repack over the phone, and have it waiting for her when she gets there. PM bbarnhouse to get contact details. G'luck! Arrive Safely John

A Google search resulted in this chart from a Wings Dealer in New Zealand. Best bet (as already stated) is to email or call Sunrise Rigging to get it from the horse's mouth. Arrive Safely John

It was very well done . . . it was great to see the folks on the production floor at PD & RWS getting some exposure. I know they and their families had fun watching. The Tandem Instructor did a great job standing up the rather large and compact host. Nice to see a piece like that come out. Arrive Safely John -

What can we do about Skyride?
slotperfect replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You won't find any Skyride or ASC "advertising" on Dropzone.com, but ASC continues to have a Dropzone Registry entry & reviews. If your review was indeed four years ago, it may not have made the leap from generation to generation of Dropzone.com when HH switched some software and/or formatting. Direct these questions to Sangiro via PM and he will have better answers to your questions. Arrive Safely John -
