What can we do about Skyride?
slotperfect replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As of today, Raeford Parachute Center no longer accepts 1-800-SKYRIDE certificates. -
A quick search of the forums will reveal numerous and informative conversations on this topic, including a recent thread currently only a few posts down from this one. The search tool is your friend. Arrive Safely John

DIPLOMA IN COMMERCIAL SKYDIVING!
slotperfect replied to shellinsky's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
Newly registered, no information in your profile, and only one post - a negative opinion with no facts to back it up. Do you think people will blindly follow your advice when they have no information other than your negative opinion? OK so I am asking . . . -Who are you? -What is your experience level? -Why do you not recommend this course? Arrive Safely John -

I am a bit confused by the diagram. To me the red material on the right illustrates the actual piece to be sewn on the riser, and the red material on the riser itself shows its general positioning and stich pattern. Brian, is the correct distance from the confluence wrap indeed 2 inches (51mm)? Arrive Safely John

How far up the risers from the confluence wrap do you attach the double thickness of 1000lb braided dacron? Arrive Safely John

Brand new user, zero feedback, fairly high dollar item, no details in the description. If I were interested in this rig, I would have to have all the details & specs for each component. I would also ask for photos of the serial numbers so I could read them myself and do some homework to find out if it shows up on any stolen gear listing. For me this would be a high risk transaction unless I was clear on the details. Arrive Safely John

"If You Want Blood . . . You Got It" The live album. That's for another mood though. My favorite motivational party album is J. Geils Band's "Blow Your Face Out!" Arrive Safely John

I can solicit opinions of others in a community where I belong, regarding subjects other than skydiving. I can share feelings or opinions to that same community on matters other than jumping out of airplanes. Honestly, I bailed on Bonfire when it was still TalkBack - before Speakers Corner was created. The political noise was too much for my ears. Now all of that is in one forum, and General Skydiving is back to being closer to what it was intended to bem and not "TalkBack II." Cheers! So here we are . . . Just me, my second bottle of Samuel Adams Winter Lager, and Sarah McLachlan: "Afterglow - Live" on the DVD player. She is just so incredibly talented it's hard to believe - and incredibly gorgeous as well. "Answer," done with solo piano and the band seated on the stage singing awesome harnony is probably my favorite. I just watched it a second time and it gave me goosebumps. I really enjoy these times - me and my music. Early in life I was immersed in it because I had nothing else to occupy my time. Now that I get to spent time like this less frequently I appreciate it more. Arrive Safely John

Psssst! Put a couple of hard returns (spaces) at the top of your sig line so it doesn't get swallowed up by the last sentence of your post! I have dealt with several gear dealers on small stuff, but all of my big purchases have gone through SkyCat. Arrive Safely John

Excellent! A big virtual "high five" for not letting this affect your own dreams. I was rather impressed that despite his significant "emotional event" he endeavored to give the customer what he paid for. Arrive Safely John

The Golden Knights RW Team trained there a few times because it was a VERY cheap place to train. They stayed in the BEQ on base, ate in the military dining facilities, and used the military airfield facilities. Plus, it's not that long a flight from North Carolina. I never went, but there may be other dotcommers that did. Arrive Safely John

What if it's a legitimate question from a new user? In that case ignoring him might have a negative result. Although it was a little clunky in this thread, I think it's important for every user to understand the dynamics of the forums. Most of that is available right away through reading the Forum Rules, FAQ, the sticky post at the top of the Introductions & Greets Forum, and the individual forum descriptions. The rest comes from experiencing the forums from within. I don't think there is ever a pinnacle of learning here, since the community evolves over time. People that intentionally post inflammatory crap (sometimes behind anonymous or false profiles) are few and far between, but there has to be some sort of accountability here or Sangiro's beloved community will spin into disorganized noise. Occasionally stereotyping or profiling happens as a result of the few knuckleheads who are bent on being disagreeable. That doesn't make it right - we just get to continue looking for a way to rise above it. Arrive Safely John

You can find a good explanation HERE. A common habit of trolls is to post very controversial questions or some very vague questions that leave a lot of room for a conversation to spin up to high RPMs. Yours falls into the latter category. You are very likely not a troll, just rather new at posting here and in need of some pointers. Now to your question: you will get a much more thorough and carefully thought out response if you give us some more information about your experience level and equipment you are jumping now. Ultimately you can get the best and most accurate advice from the Instructional Staff at your home DZ who have first hand knowledge of your canopy piloting skills and previous downsizing progression. Does Anybody Know Darrin De Reus?
slotperfect replied to slotperfect's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
OK - I found out a few things. He is (or was) an Air Force Staff Sergeant, and jumped at Cal City while he was staitoned at Edwards AFB. He may have been trained there as well. He was living in Ohio at some point when the logbook came into the seller's hands through the "flea market" (or similar) process. USPA was a dead-end, as his membership is not current. I will see if I can talk the seller out of it for the cost of shipping. I will email Cal City and the DZs in Ohio near the seller. Maybe someone has a line on him there. Arrive Safely John
