  1. From the USPA website: Arrive Safely John
  2. April 2001 February 2003 June 2003 January 2004 This is a popular subject and as long as I've been around I'm still amazed at the answer when I get an update. Can someone who skydives with Bill Dause and Don Kellner give us an update?? If not, I might be able to get one from USPA. Arrive Safely John
  3. They will have the no-kidding up-to-date schedule in hard copy when you register. See you there. Arrive Safely John
  4. I had a conversation with PD about this in late September, and their answer was that they are "working very hard" on this. Apparently there is a high demand. Arrive Safely John
  5. ROFLMAO!!! Dude, you slay me! That made my night! Now it's time for me to go cry myself to sleep on my huge pilla! Arrive Safely John
  6. If it wasn't true it might be construed as a personal attack! Arrive Safely John

  9. I have never been asked, but I would be happy to provide my credentials to any student for their review. I would not be offended. Arrive Safely John
  10. This reply can't be pointed at bob.dino, since he's the one who asked to have it posted to begin with. Therefore, it must be pointed at me. Well, 1) I don't have the video, and 2) It ain't about laziness, it's about lack of interest. I don't WANT to post it. Clear enough? Arrive Safely John
  11. There's no "booth," but Sangiro is giving a seminar (twice) called "Dropzone.com 101." You can get all of the up-to-date information here. Arrive Safely John
  12. Please post contact info for Rare Dynamics if you have it. Thanks. Arrive Safely John

  15. I will be in Seattle later this week, staying downtown. Can anyone from that area recommend a good sushi bar in the downtown area?!?! Arrive Safely John
  16. I can't believe you just lobbed that one over the net at me! Here comes the spike! Backatcha! Arrive Safely John
  17. This was LouDiamond's input on the subject from the original thread: He had replied to the original poster instead of usskydiver's sidebar, so his post didn't move when I broke this part free. Arrive Safely John
  18. Maybe one of our resident MFF/Is will chime in (paging Billy Lauterbach . . . ) I prefer a rear mounted rucksack doing HALO, and a front mounted rucksack doing HAHO. It's all a matter of comfort for me, since I am a big guy and the rucksack doesn't steal as much flying surface from me as it would from more vertically challenged individuals like LouDiamond. Once the military goes to a canopy that has softer openings (), I will likely mount everything in the front unless doing free fall grouping. You have to admit that I would be hard to keep up with wearing a 45 lb rig and a 70 lb rucksack. As stated earlier, it's easier to mount, adjust, and fly straight. I'm gonna bust this sidebar out of the main thread so we don't hijack it. We'll probably get more input that way as well! Arrive Safely John
  19. Please don't encourage people to lean that way. We all need to have some integrity when opening our logbook and uncapping that pen. If one gets in the habit of inflating the contents of his logbook, it becomes a habit. Later in life, when it is discovered, that person will fall out of integrity and lose credibility as well. I know of someone that is fairly well known in the skydiving world that falls into this category. Maybe if someone gave him some sage advice early on he would never have gotten into that predicament. I work very hard to educate the military jumpers that come through me for USPA licenses and ratings. I agree whole-heartedly that military procedures and regulations, along with the military jump environment (be it static line or military free fall) is very different. I think this statement actually supports the other opinions in this thread that the military static line jumps might be better off being logged separately. If a US Army Master Parachutist, who is a Jumpmaster with at least 65 military static line jumps, puts those jumps in his logbook, he is adding a fairly significant number without an accompanying degree of experience that applies to the "sport world." There are a few things that might transfer - knowledge of wind direction, the PLF, etc., but not much else. Arrive Safely John

  23. Epic films of that sort, if done well, and made to be long for a reason, are worth it. I saw Ghandi in 1982, which is 188 minutes long. It had an intermission, which allowed us a bathroom break. The movie was worth the long sit. Arrive Safely John
  24. It's a "B" movie. Unknown actors, funded by the director/producer who are a married couple. It got raves at the Sundance film festival - from a film-making perspective it may be a wonder, but from an entertainment perspective it was slow and anti-climactic. It would give it 2.0 stars out of 5. Arrive Safely John
  25. Sit down with your Instructor(s) and come up with a personalized plan based on his (their) knowledge of your performance thus far. Make a couple of solo jumps doing whatever you like just to celebrate your independence! Then learn to pack so you can jump your own pack job a few times. All the while you can be getting good canopy coaching. It will be good for you to build finely honed canopy piloting skills from early in your career. Good luck! Arrive Safely John
