  1. Teaching students how to fill out a logbook correctly is an important part of their training. Teaching them how to keep track of the requirements they will need for licenses and instructional ratings later will serve them well. Even if someone says "I will never be an instructor," I still encourage them to track everything in case something changes. I have seen a lot of people change their minds. Like anything else, it's not difficult to do if you keep up with it often. I log mine at the end of every jump day. Like many others, I have stopped getting signatures, unless they present some sort of sentimental value to me. Here in this country, I would encourage everyone to log the important stuff and get signatures through 500 jumps and 6 hours of free fall time. After that I would encourage them to continue to log their jumps, eliminating the details they choose as being not important any more. Arrive Safely John
  2. It is indeed a repost. The third one that I know of. I hope you don't mind, but I edited it to put the title of the cartoon in the subject line so when somebody else finds it and does a search to see if it has been posted already, it will pop up in the results. Arrive Safely John
  3. Naaah. I'm not gonna go ask my old teammate to dig out an old video and burn it to digital format so I can post it here for everyone to revisit hairy incidents from my ancient history. My descriptions will have to do. Arrive Safely John
  4. I have never seen the video. I could, because I know who shot it, and he still has it. I have seen the pictures, which bring the incident back in living color for me. Arrive Safely John
  5. I remember talking to one of the pilots afterward, and he quoted me all of the "over-speed" numbers the aircraft went through. They grounded it and gave it a thorough going over, and it passed with flying colors. Front floating the left door. Arrive Safely John
  6. I stand corrected. It's an ESCi/ERTL 1:72 Scale Model, #9115 Arrive Safely John

  8. This is obviously a pretty emotional subject, but we'd like to keep this discussion going. Those of you who have very strong opinions either way about this topic need to realize two things: 1) we will continue to moderate this thread for content, 2) if you break the forum rules you may lose your posting privileges. Also, please keep this thread free from "noise." One liners, off-topic posts, etc. This thread is huge already and we don't need to clutter it with unproductive stuff. Thanks! Arrive Safely John
  9. Flyaway - Pigeon Forge, TN FFS - Ft. Bragg, NC Skyventure - Orlando, FL My Mom lives in Western NC . . . I plan to visit y'all when I'm out there sometime. Maybe I'll treat my kids to a flight! Arrive Safely John
  10. -It never came close to crashing. The pilots recovered the aircraft completely by about 6000 FT AGL. -It never got into a spin. The wing stalled, it rolled upside down, then pitched over into a dive which the pilots pulled it out of. -I was, shall we say, an aerial eyewitness. "And that's all I got to say about that" -F. Gump, 1990 Arrive Safely John
  11. I have one - unassembled. It's a Revell kit. I bought it on eBay.
  12. That aircraft is a Fokker F-27, designated by the military as a "C-31." The Golden Knights have had two of them since the late 1980's. The DHC-7 is a four-engine t-tail aircraft. Arrive Safely John
  13. There's already a thread on this posted here. Let's keep that one going! Arrive Safely John
  14. A status update: -I researched three soft links: PD Slink SR-1, Precision Wrap-It, and Aerodyne P1487-01. I found written confirmation that each of these was approved under TSP C23d as a "separate component." I either found it posted on the manufacturer's website or they emailed it to me. Note: HiPer listed their link as compatible only main canopies, and Flight Concepts didn't reply to my question about their Cinch Links. -I emailed PD, Aerodyne, Precision, Strong, Flight Concepts, North American, and Para Flite to ask them specifically about the reserves they manufacture. I did not go too "deep in the weeds" naming older reserves; for example, I only asked Para Flite about the Swift Plus Reserve. Once I receive all replies I'll post another update, and hopefully HH will post the docs permanently here. Arrive Safely John
  15. I am not a Vector III tips & tricks expert, but if you can find one I know there's a way to "train" those riser covers so they don't ripple like that. Arrive Safely John

  17. I think I will do just that during the holidays. Thanks for the rec, Dave. Arrive Safely John
  18. This and this may help you as well. You can put it in your rigging info book. Bill Booth, creator of the 3-ring and owner of Relative Workshop, posts on these forums as "billbooth." He posted this thread about this very subject. Arrive Safely John
  19. Welcome back! I second Dave's congrats on your gear choice - it will serve you well. Arrive Safely John
  20. I always use the same roll of seal thread. It stays in the tackle box that holds all my tools. When I get a new roll I actually do break off a piece to make sure it's what I think it is. It never occurred to me that it was a "method" that other people train. Great post. Arrive Safely John

  24. Thanks, George. I can't open that file here at home (I don't have MS Excel here), but I will look at it carefully at work on Monday. I had sent Precision an email regarding this issue: are the Wrap-It Links approved under TSO C23d as a separate component? Arrive Safely John
  25. I just had the same conversation with Sun Path this week. They just finished the Smart/Javelin Odyssey compatibility chart. The info I got from Mike that will help here is that the Smart packs up a little smaller than a PD Reserve, but not a whole size smaller. I agree with GG that you will likely need a Smart 160. But don't just take our word for it; your best bet is to call Sunrise Rigging and discuss it with them: (813) 788-1910 info@skydivewings.com Arrive Safely John
