  1. That is a very common container size. You should be able to find plenty of options. DZ.com classifieds, eBay (search for "skydiving"), and any of the bigger gear dealers have a large selection on their websites. If you give me some more specifics, I will help keep an eye out for you. I surf the classifieds nearly every day. Arrive Safely John
  2. I am also a SLlNK fan. I highly recommend them. Get your Rigger to show you how to keep the tabs tucked in the loops in the risers during the first 15 jumps or so, until they take a set. THen they will stay put by themselves. You will find some Riggers that are adamant about hand-tacking them so the tabs don't come out and present a snag hazard. This is perfectly acceptable, and the instructions describe how to do this. Just make sure they are tacked through the label. Arrive Safely John
  3. Sounds like a call to the rig manufacturer is in order (unless of course that's not an OEM d-bag). While you're helping him out, get him to shorten those stows a bit. They are waaaay too long - inviting a bag lock. Arrive Safely John
  4. You don't need to be nervous, just prepared - trained on what steps to take in the event of an emergency, and memory sharp regarding which procedures to use at which altitudes. You don't need a helmet to make an emergency exit. You might take a bit of time to talk to some pilots about their procedured during emergencies - how well your single-engine Cessna glides with a full load and no engine; how well your Twin Otter holds altitude with a full load and one engine out, how important it is to sit still early in an engine-out situation to maintain CG, etc. Knowing more about the aircraft will make you less nervous. 5. I'm a little confused . . . I said nothing about static line jumpers. There weren't any static line jumpers on any of the aircraft incidents I listed. ??? Arrive Safely John
  6. He does it with PMs because you don't get SPAM through that means of communication. If you had the same indicator for email, it would be much less effective. Even with the improved SPAM filters, some still sneaks through. Arrive Safely John
  7. Making sure that your packers are taking the twists out of the brakelines often will help prevent tension knots involving the upper control lines. If I am packing a tandem rig myself, I do it on every jump. I take them out of my own canopy about every 10 jumps. Arrive Safely John
  8. Yet another example of JP and I being on the same sheet of music (it's getting scary!) I make sure the equipment I need to save my life is ready to go. The biggest example of this is making sure my harness is properly adjusted before I get on the plane. This includes my Tandem Student's harness. I have made four emergency landings in aircraft: -Blackhawk helicopter w/chip light -Cessna 206 with engine running very rough -U-21 with one engine out (faulty fuel pump switch) -C-31 with one engine out (master caution light) I have made three emergency exits: -C-130 with fire warning light #3 engine @ 25,000 FT MSL -C-130 with fire warning light #3 engine @ 4000 FT with a tandem -Twin Otter with one engine out @ 4000 FT with a tandem In all of these situations, I was ready for anything within mere seconds because I was prepared. Because I refresh my memory on procedures often, I had a plan for what I would do once I exited the aircraft. Great post!
  9. I suggest you PM the Mods in that forum for clarification so the very pertinent questions you posed here are effectively answered. The Mods in General are Me, billvon, and SkymonkeyONE. I didn't move it, so that narrows it down. Bear in mind that the Mods are not required to tell you why they do things, but I think you may have good results on this one!
