My Uncle is a policeman in Cally where the myth about 420 originated from. There is no PURE 420 code in the California Penal codebook, this is an urban myth. On that note, I certainly don't mind participating in a little 420 every now and then, especially when I can't jump cuz of this bum knee... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  2. "I don't want them to get hurt or killed, yet I want them to experience the freedom and fun our sport has to offer." Don't let them play baseball or soccer, I've seen a death in each sport. Don't let them ski or snowboard, I've seen more than one death in each sport. "I also don't want to expose them to all the crudeness that are at some boogies and DZ's, even though my daughters are old enough to handle it." That's life unfortunately and while I whole heartedly agree with you that some boogies and DZs have MANY crude people walking around (hell I'm one of them), generally, these people will care for one of theirs more than in just about any other sport out there. If you personally knew me beyond the partying, you would see that I am indeed a caring individual with only a desire to see new jumpers flourish down whatever path they choose. I know two family's that have multiple members involved in the sport and because there parents did a great job of raising them they make the right decisions in what to participate in and what not to, in how to carry themselves and how not to. Its not the DZ thats going to corrupt, its lack of parenting - ask any family counselor this. I find, and especially at boogies like Lost Prarie, that while there is quite a bit of "crudeness" as you put it walking around at night, the whole ambiance of the boogie has something to offer for everyone. What is wrong with a little nudity? Nothing. Beer drinking after the last load? Nothing. May I even go so far as to suggest that toakin on a spliff won't ruin someone if they've been raised to have larger aspirations in life than to become a full time stoner. The people at a boogie like LP represent ALL WALKS OF LIFE, there are young and old, outrageous and conservative, but the bottom line is that IMHO they are ALL GREAT people. Good luck! -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  3. Shoot - I've been "emailing" the two major dropzones here in Colorado for like the past four weeks trying to figure out when the heck water training is coming up. After not hearing back from either in literally four emails a piece, I called one of them only to find out "Oh, so sorry, you've just missed the water training and there wont be another one for four more weeks." COME ON, DONT PUT AN EMAIL ON YOUR WEBSITE IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO CHECK THE ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!! -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  4. Sorry - I'm a typical programmer - bait the student into searching for knowledge on their own... But seriously, I just got done completing a pretty large project for Rocky Flats Arsenal and if you (or anyone) has any questions regarding MO lemme know, I'd be more than happy to help you out... "So once I've figured out the format of the data on the card () I'll want to somehow plot it." How do you interface with the little black box now? Serial port?? I'm just thinking if it's currently interfaceable in some sort of way, thinking thinking thinking........ -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  5. Well put. Indeed. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  6. I do a full gear check just about every jump, it only takes a few seconds on a sport rig to really check the main things. I'm the nervous fidgity type so on the way up I also check out things pretty regularly like my BOC, is it still where it is supossed to be? Is it where it is supossed to be?? I do see quite a few people who never ever give it a second thought and don't do regular gear checks and that scares me quite a bit... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  7. ESRI's MapObjects has a beautiful example of capturing realitme GPS data... Messed with it and got it working myself... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  8. Honestly - you are worrying too much IMHO. Driving in a car to the DZ is an order of a magnitude more dangerous than skydiving is. Skydiving has a perceived large rish that really isn't nearly as large as it is perceived to be (does that make any sense LOL)... And BTW - I worked three jobs to put myself through AFF and into my first kit. Plus once you have your first license, all you have to do is stay current which is like one jump a month (or is it 60 days???)... As everyone is saying here, your confidence will increase every instant you spend on the DZ, in the air, playing with your rig and canopy, etc... Good luck to you. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  9. I realize that. I realize every time I'm hammering down a 40 degree slide prone slope that even on low to moderate days I could still be buried deep. I've been in my share of near death experiences and have come to terms with death and have talked with those that I love about my life and what it means to me and what I'd like to do with it in the future (i.e. perhaps jump off of a fixed object). They realize what it takes for me to be happy. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  10. The coach should just take hold of the student and fly him or her down to the lowman to maximze the effeciveness and learning for the jump IMHO
  11. How much did you pay for that total? I like it but I WANT a cameye hookup for sure... I have a PC9... Thanks in advance for the information! -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  12. I find it funny when a young lad is ranting and raving on the lift ride up at a local resort about how bad ass they are and this and that and how their sponsor blah blah blah and I usually have a six pack and a smoke or two in me and can ride faster and safer than they can even come close to... Not tooting my own horn here, but there is a common thread in those types. They THINK they are the SHIT and ultimately get themselves hurt trying to live up to that. These people don't seem to want to learn/listen EVER. One of the reasons I desire to eventually do a BASE jump or a hundred is because I realize that in this sport, the people that really participate in it regulary seem to be nothing but open minded in educating and bringing along a young guy/gal. Again, I've never jumped, but I am simply blown away how people like Tom and DDog and Skinflicka and so on and so forth are very forthcoming with information for someone to help them live the next jump. It also reminds me that this is really perhaps one of the very few sports out there that cannot be done for the look of it. You have to be totally commited to the technical aspects of it or it will burn you, not if, just when is the question. That aspect of the sport both scares me and draws me towards it. I imagine that being able to fully ascertain a LZ on my own would feel quite similar to being able to make life and death decisions in the backcountry when a big ass avalanche may cover ones ass up deep. On another note, Burton does make some very decent products and I really hope those jokers weren't truly sponsored by them. I've personally met Jake a few times and he seems to be nothing short of a gentlemen in terms of the quality of the product he's trying to produce and the safety of his friends while playing in the backcountry. He reminds me alot of Brian Germain. The few times I've met Brian, he's been nothing bur forthcoming with information to help me along in a safe and productive manner. Blu skies soft landings... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  13. lolol They should rewrite the whole thing binarily or something.... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  14. Do they do freefly camps at all? -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  15. still though - big woop does kind of sum it up... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  16. I've been on certain passes in Colorado before where I can easily hold a 45 degree angled lean into a strong wind. It gets scary pushing it cuz you'll just all flat on yer face... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  17. Unfuckinreal. BASE jumping is a terrible sport to go into with any kind of hot-headed attitude (I imagine since I haven't jumped yet). It is right in line with other sports like backcountry skiing or climbing where getting into the moment without first respecting the moment will CERTAINLY bite you in the ass at one point. No thanks. BTW - why would a snowboarding company sponsor someone most likely participating in an illegal proposition? I just find that to be highly unlikely. Perhaps they were just shit talkers that really can't ride a snowboard or a set of skis to save their lives. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  18. NO VIDEO of the highway test????????????????? -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  19. Technically thats not even a legal jump is it? I thought 25 miles away from the original dropzone was as far as one could legally travel and get out at the top? -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  20. If you find any please PM me. Also, I was interested in reprogramming my Jeep info center - anyone have a clue what language it might be in? -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --

  22. Always have done my own, only person I will ever be able to blame for anything is me... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  23. Bought a JVC b4 the pc style cameras were really in use on DZs. Had nothing but issues with it on the ground and in the air. Got my Sony PC9 and have NEVER EVER had ONE issue with it even after watching my buddy lose it off of his helmet at one hundred feet. -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
  24. Or they could just use the search function that comes along with most popular forums out there... -- (N.DG) "If all else fails – at least try and look under control." --
