SO WELL PUT - That is precisely why I don't buy into any religion. IMHO they are all the same "God" eventually. They may have morphed over time due to situational and environmental variables not to mention different education methodologies, but really when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it - there are so many freakin similarities among the different religions out there. I really do think that all religions were conjured up in some form or another by humans themselves to explain the unexplainable. There are so many examples of this in history from day one forward. The problem is, people in poor economic environments need something to hold onto, and religion is technically free. It makes life worth living for those that couldn't seem to find anything else. I personally find my god (lowercase g on PURPOSE) in the mountains on a fat powder day or at the DZ when people are really welcoming each other and make it a point to make everyone as happy as possible on a given day. If I didn't have a house payment and the desire to contiune freefallin, I'd quit it all and go on a crusade to promote my belief system - it might just be the one where everyone could essentially agree. god comes in many many many many different forms, if you want to call him God to distinugish yourself from other religions out there, show me why your religion holds any more water then the next. One nuclear war with anyone is going to do a great deal of harm to alot more than just the two countries involved. I work for a company cleaning up Rocky Flats here in Colorado and know quite abit about what a small amount of bad "stuff" can do to the immediate enivironment. Even a small nuclear war would really mess things up worldwide. Personally, as bad as it is, I think thats whats going to eventually happen. I mean shoot - people are flying 50 square foot canopies. Nothing is out of the realm of possibilities and someone will eventually become so pissed off with someone else (most likely someone angry with the good ol USA) and decide that pushing the green button is no big deal. My only point/thought in this whole fiasco is this. I can just see the average non-skydiver about to become a skydiver. I'd be willing to bet its on average (guesstimate, probably way wrong here heh) some 20-27 year old male with a slightly enlarged ego that sees a jump on TV, has no real clue what the sport entails, goes out to the local DZ and does a jump, gets hooked, etc, etc... MOST of my comrades began the sport this way, in this age group, with that slightly enlarged ego. MOST of my comrades were also rather athletic and MOST of them know who Jim Rome is. Now with that said, the only reason I am so pissed of is because regardless of what any jumper may say, I'll bet there were a few blockheaded enlarged egoed, 20-27 year old males watching Jim Rome that day and saw just how dangerous it really must be at Skydive Chicago. I'd also be willing to bet that a few of those potential customers will never become potential customers now because of what he said. To be honest with everyone, I no longer give two shits about this issue, as many of you have said, and I already know this - let it go, its the media, blah blah blah. I just had great love for Mr. Roger Nelson and would'nt mind going up against the media for this man. He was that important to me in my early days of jumping, he was that good of a person to me. In reality, we probably couldn't do squat against Mr. Rome even though he damn well broke the law. I can prove that. PM me if anyone wants proof. But anyhow - it saddens me that Mr. Nelson's heirs may suffer that much more now that they've lost a few students here and there. The only reason I am so angry over this is his show WILL prevent at least one person who may have gone down to SDC to learn how to skydive from doing so. Slander, plain and freakin simple.
