For the record, you can hook a Skytronic FX up to a PC as well. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I wait. Let someone else work out the bugs and the techniques necessary to make the thing behave. And let the prices come down as used ones come on the market and newer designs make inventory obsolete. Nothing I like better than a proven design and a good deal to boot. But that's just my preference. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

The pilot chute cap on the Wings, Javelin, and Dolphin are "exposed" on the sides, but not on the top or bottom (if you use the alternative closing procedure for the Dolphin) the way the Reflex is (unless you have the added flap on the top of the Reflex, in which case my earlier comments may not apply). I can fax the inserts to you if you give me your fax number. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I'd take the Wings over the Reflex for two main reasons. The Wings is in production, and I'm not so sure about the Reflex. And I don't like the way the reserve pilot chute cap is exposed on the Reflex. I'd take a used Wings over a new Reflex for the second reason alone. If the choice is between a new Wings and a used Reflex, I'd go with the Wings every time. I have owned both in the past. I still have a Wings. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I've been using Super Bandz on my rigs. They work fine and last a long, long time. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

Steve, you're the only guy I know with a chest rating but no back rating. I love it!! I agree with your sentiments regarding the responsibilities you assume when you pack other people's reserves. Of course, I am no less concerned when I pack my own. My desire to save my own life is as great as my desire to save someone else's. The liability issues are another matter. There isn't that much money in it. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
-
I can't say my first save was on my rig (my first reserve ride was on my rig and after I got my ticket, but not on my repack), but the questions I would ask myself are: What caused the bag lock? Could the same problem occur on a reserve? Did I learn my lesson? Am I a better rigger now, as a result of this experience? Do I really want to pack other people's rigs? Vlad, it was you. We got it to you, but not as soon as we had hoped. It was nip and tuck. As I recall, you wanted to take it with you but ended up mailing it. Anyway, I'm glad you have only fond memories! BTW, you responded to an ad on dropzone.com. It was not ebay. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

BTW, I've had several Russian experiences. I've been asked to ship to a Post Office Box at an airport, following which my money would be promptly sent to me (right). I've been told the money was sent, so could I hurry up and ship the goods in good faith (right). And then there was the poor guy who wanted me to send an altimeter to him in Alaska so he could take it to a friend in Russia (but shipping delays messed that one up - sorry Vlad). I can't even count the number of deals that I've "lost" because I chose to protect myself after a bad experience on ebay. I've had some very good experiences there too, so the key for me is to make sure the other guy sticks his neck out farther than I stick mine out. I trust me more than I do the other guy. If they trust me too, things work out. Otherwise, it's on to the next deal. The thrill I seek is not in wondering if I'm gonna get screwed by a buyer or seller (at least not on a gear deal). BTW, check out my new site www.baddog.esmartbuyer.com. Ooops, forgot PLUG ALERT. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

Slinks can be used with any main (SM) and with PD or Precision reserves (SR). I use them on both mains and reserves on my rigs. They have less bulk, are stronger, and are less prone to failure from overloading, side loading, or over tightening than metal links. My rigger (me) loves them. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

So, long time no word, Dan. Was there a test or not? What were the results? Is Icarus out of business yet? CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

After a while, the DZ is more about friends and socializing than jumping, and non-jumpers are part of the group and can even share some of the experiences vicariously. Getting her into the group is easy if she gets along with people in general. If she can find something productive to do (pack, run manifest, etc.), all the better. Mine fills in at the manifest, answers the phone, shoots ground video, and give meaningless advice to those who don't know any better than to listen to her. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

My understanding is that anyone can do whatever they want with a main, but only a rigger with the appropriate rating (back, chest, seat, lap) can assemble the rest of the system (container, reserve, AAD). CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I use them and I've had no trouble at all. They hold like rubber bands and wear like Tube Stows. I do know of one guy who used them on his locking stows and had a bag lock because he double wrapped them. They are tight when you first put them on, but you can stretch them out a bit and over time they will actually get to the point where you might double wrap the non-locking stows. Use a pull-up cord to install them and stretch them out. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

Ok time to get my own stuff. (suit, helmet, alti)
BadDog replied to Viking's topic in Gear and Rigging
Try a Digitude instead of the Altimaster III. The Digitude is lighter, has a comfortable mount, and includes a light for night jumps. And you can turn it on at altitude (or in freefall) if you want to. And I love my Z1. Never had a problem. Don't need goggles either. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog -
When I had that problem, it was a combination of the wrong thread and wrong size needle. You probably need a new vacuum cleaner anyway. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

It's ZP, and you do not want to open at terminal (unless you change the slider). It's designed specifically for CReW. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I had one for a couple of years. They are just fine for beginners. They are fine for more experienced jumpers too. I like them. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I've had mine for 4 years and I've had no problems at all. However, after reading this thread, I'm thinking about moving the Protrack to my pocket and letting the Skytronic do all the beeping. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

I keep my pockets on my pants. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

If both are consistent with your exit weight and experience level as recommended by PD, you can go with the moderate (smaller) one. Otherwise, you have to go with the tight (larger) one. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

It's not just the asphalt from sliders (an artsy form of landing), it's also the wear you get on the ride up (especially in the back of a Cessna) that will make Parapak show wear more (and sooner) than Cordura. I still prefer the look of Parapak though. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
