  1. Especially when I'm flying home rather than driving. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  2. See http://www.pia.com/SSK/cypres/cyp16.htm regarding whether or not to switch off your Cypres at the end of the day. I almost always switch mine off manually. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  3. I've often wondered why the self-test can only be considered valid if the scheduled maintenance and battery replacement requirements have been met (quote from SSK). Are they saying that the test results are not accurate at that point? CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

Yeah, just what is this "new" software called? There's nothing I like more than sitting around trying to create more software conflicts that I can then solve in twice the time it took me to create them. That's why all of my machines are dual boots. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  6. I've got a Z-1 with the STI option and have a Skytronic Pro in it. But, I also have a ProTrack in the pocket on the other side. I like the Z-1, but I only use the Skytronic as a backup for the ProTrack. If I only had one, it would be the ProTrack (in which case I would skip the STI option). CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  7. No, I don't have any. I'm hoping you guys do (and that you post them). CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  8. I'm wondering if the wing loading was a factor. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  9. Anybody hear anything more about the "recall"? See page 5 of the January issue of Skydiving. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  10. "What are the other reasons one would wan't to wear a full face besides reduced noise and wind off the face, as oppose to the non full face." How about flying feet on an RW jump? CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  11. Did I say otherwise? CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  12. Try choppers next. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  13. Somehow I tend to think it is better not to declare certain things in a public forum, even if you think everyone else does the same thing. At least not until you're sure it's legal in your state. Now, were you packing the thing or getting to know it better? CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  14. Musty? Sounds like it could use some airing out more often. ;-) CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  15. The turbulance.in the air or on the ground? Flying or on the date? Just checking. Same number of approaches and landings? No, not on the date. Flying!! CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  16. Another tradition has passed me by. I didn't know you could celebrate that. But I do now. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  17. Treading water with full gear on......we did that in the Marines in basic training. If you're not expecting it, the initial sensation is one that can lead to shock and panic. Best to experience it first hand under controlled conditions. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  18. I'd settle for 100LL !!! CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  19. I never exceed the manufacturer's maximums when it comes to a reserve. I just don't want to find out the hard way that they were right. As for pin checks, I will let someone I trust do it, otherwise it's keep your hands off my gear (I've checked it twice already, and you don't know how it works anyway). CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  20. Well, I log hours in the airplane, number of scuba dives and hours of bottom time, number of skydives and hours of freefall time, and ........well, that's about it. But, really, what's the point? Do I log hours behind the wheel of my car, or miles driven? Number of pushups done in my lifetime? I used to go birding, but avoided starting a life list because I knew it would become a labor of love. I do log reserves packed, but I think I have to. The Government is real big on paperwork. And I've known girls who put "X's" on calendars...........until they realized it would be easier to do it the other way around (you figure it out). I've often thought of the freedom I would feel if I could just jump and enjoy the moment without feeling compelled to "log" it. But I'm afraid to stop for fear that I'll want to start again and I'll never be able to fill in the gap. But I do use a ProTrack and just download it (no more paper book). So I'm almost free........................ CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  21. I tested my Skytronic Pro and my ProTrack with a sound level meter and found them both to be acceptable given the actual time of exposure. I wrote the numbers down someplace, and I'll post them if I can find them. I have my hearing checked every couple of years (had some loss at an early age due to gunshots and operating heavy equipment without protection) and so far there has been no additional loss. I was also worried about the time spent on the airplane without any protection but, again, so far, so good. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  22. I did mine a couple of years ago, with an actual water jump into Alum Creek Lake. We used old military rounds to make it even more interesting. Still, I don't think water training (or lack of it) was the issue in Jason's case. With water that cold, and with all of the clothing he had on (getting water logged), he just didn't have that much time, and his time ran out. Bruce had on a wetsuit. That gave him buoyancy and protection from the chilling water long enough for the rescue to take place. I do think that other areas of training or review such as maintaining positional awareness and planning off-airport landings would be advisable for anyone. Almost every DZ has its own set of potential hazards, and you can go through different scenarios in your head (just like going through your emergency procedures) almost any time. 23. Oh, and I also have a Skytronic Pro and a ProTrack in the Z-1. If I got this one at a time, the order would be Z-1, ProTrack, and ...a backup for the ProTrack. If you're backing up the beeper function, a standard Dytter will do. If you're backing up the logging function, a Skytronic will do. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  24. I've done a few sits and head-downs with my Z-1 (with visor on) and haven't had a problem yet. With the button lock, it's hard to imagine how it could come open, which I think would have to happen before it could get ripped off. Maybe if you didn't fully latch it? I always tug on the top of the visor at least a couple of times as part of my pre-exit rain dance. CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
  25. You should learn how to do this. That doesn't mean that you should know how to do this if you've never been taught. It means it is a good thing to learn. Even then, if you don't do it all the time, it wouldn't hurt to get someone to watch or check your work. I get asked to do that all the time, and don't mind it one bit. And I don't charge for it either. After all, these are my buddies and I want to keep them around so we can "make the load". CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
