I don't know how you live your life over there but I don't usually stand around covered in my own faecies and I have never seen a cow living a luxurious (by human standards) lifestyle. You are painting 'far side' type picture here. [sarcasm]What is the average salary for these illusive, 'middle classed' cows?[/sarcasm] How much money an animal produces or inssured for does not necessarily correlate with its living conditions. Dairy farms in New Zealand (And i'm sure in the greener states of the USA) Graze their cattle on grass, and they live a relativly nice lifestyles, and migrate to the milking sheds on thier own accord each day at the same time... When I was in the California over summer (lodi) however, I was applaled at the living conditions in the various cattle farms we flew over each load to altitude. The water is fowl, they have no green grass to eat and they spend thier entire lives walking in faeces, and breathing toxic and concentrated fumes from being so closely confined. Yep what a life to live, I'd trade anyday "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Globalization, Manufacturing, and Solar Technology

You said "solar panels would be usless in antarctica in summer", you are a moderator on a 'global' website, please try to consider that there is life below the equator when you are making references to subject matter. This cannot be reiteated enouh on many levels in many subjects. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Old age is probably not likely for any commercial dairy cow that is not grazed on grass in a spacious relatively clean envoronment with sunshine and fresh water. Only a very small percentage of cows will have such good living conditions. I bet other complications such as weak bones and disease are higher on the list than old age! This Perturbs Me Greatly - Unsecured video from UAV Drones?

explain, there is no need for these wars, yet they are called 'just'. How is the USA's current foriegn policy not responsabkle for unecessary deaths ofhundreds of thousands, and the destruction of thousands of communities? The reasons for invading have been proven false numerous times by qualified people, with legal documents. US 'intellegence' disregards the views and suggestions from your intellectual and experienced citizens and placed the responsability in the hands of wall street beurocrats, with no consequnce for thier actions. There are hundereds of people, if not thousands starting, completing and reseraching books, peer reveiwed journals, and thesis' on the subject, yet no one listens? It is taboo to discuss, or question, well it was... The opposition to any official story is silenced from Law. The truth and evidence violently opposed by willingly subdued and falsly patriotic people such as yourself. Thats if you don't have the harness 'on' correctly, the purpose of those straps is to keep your hips together I usually have only a couple of inches length in the straps once connected. Uless of course they have a huge belly or ass! then there is a little more length. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Which cross brace Canopy have the best opening?
rhys replied to mar.rei's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It is true that they were opening hard, but a you mentioned it may have been trim issues, I know the linesets were not factory made or assembled. It was only a couple of months ago. I have to agree with you there for sure, I have just installed my new RDS, and the openings are 'swifter'. The extra large 'pouch' that is created by the wings/flaps on a stock JVX slider is drasticaly reduced on a Removable slider, due to the Corners being cut off. As I see it, these cut off corners allow airflow onto the bottom skin of the canopy where stabalisers would normally be, the flaps on a stock slider cover more of this area and inhibit inflation from the airflow hitting the bottom skin. I have used a full RDS on camera jumps before, but do not reccomend it at all. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

You are a 'solar guy', explain this to me. Antarctica has 24hr a day sunlight in summer. Or were you referring to the 'USA' summer? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

the pentagon wants war, the arms maunfacturers want war, who cares what these things do or dont do, they will make more war and thats what counts right? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
I'm sure you assumtion that i am australian is becaue my avitar says 'australia'. i am from New Zealand and we have not bowed down to the USA and its questionable foreigh policy for decades. We refused you entry to our shores with any nuclear powered or capable item, 'You' dodn't like that and tried to get heavy handed. we stood our ground. When it comes to Iraq war etc. we also refused to participate because it sets a precedent to anyone to attack anyone they dissaprove of. Our Prime minister was also was quoted in saying that the Iraq war "would not have happened if Gore had have been presedent" and that "Iraq was not a haven for terrorists before the war but certainly is now!". Our prime minister david Lange a few dacade ago stood firm against us foriegn policy and was quoted saying "I can smell the uranium on your breath from here". You are right, what a bunch of pushovers!! Up until this day, USA's or 'any' countries vessels that are Nuclear powered or capable, are not allowed in New Zealand. And I hope it stays that way forever! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Which cross brace Canopy have the best opening?
rhys replied to mar.rei's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have owned only aFX and JVX's, I have jumped other peoples velocities, xaos and VX but not enough to commend or dislike. They are all fun to fly and all opened; 'all good', I found the velocties to 'search' a little for inflaton, and the xaos to take a little too long to snivel/inflate, the fx was a little swift at inflating but it was a 'icarus extreme' model so a bit older than most. The vx i jumped opened nice but it had a JVX lineset. I have seen at least 2 people swap out sliders on a Neos due to hard openings with camera gear. If you think connecting your lowers is going to help you when you; 1, are cut off. 2, make a mistake on landing. 3, are thumped in, by turbulance. You sould reconsider being a TI. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I look at my drogue, not everytime but I do look. It should feel the same everytime, sometimes it 'feels' like i'm going mauch faster so i check but for the most part, once you have 2000+ tandems you should be able to feel that everything is O.K, I use my feet to ensure there is no entanglement with my sudents feet ( a concern of mine) but if the drouge is not deployed correctly you should know just by what happens to you. Handles you can see, at least if you jump in shorts an t shirt like we all do here, in colder climates this can be more of an issue with jumpsuits and extra layers etc. I will not put the customers video out of frame just to touch the handle when it is plain and obvious that it is in place and visible. these rules are good to have there, I know of an incident where the TM did not throw the drogue (at all!) and wondered when they pulled the drogue release, why nothong happened.!!!!!! reserve ride wit drouge in pouch after 12k skydive!!!!!!! That will never happen to me for that I am sure, if it did I would be taking a serious look at myself and reconsidering my career options, awareness is awareness, whether your touch you handle or simply look at it, you 'should' KNOW whether it is in place or not. I only ever touch the blue golf ball after exit if I have a hard pull on the orange one, 'both' times that has happened It has been no problem locating it as I have touched it many thousands of times over about 6 times each jump even though I hardly ever use it. How long does it take for somebody to b 'familiar' with something? That depends, some individuals never quite 'get it'. so that is why we have rules. I bet none of us follow all the rulles as much as we would like to suggest that we do. The question then comes down to; who has a good head on thier shoulders? Some beleive hand cam is a bad idea alogether, these areusually not the ones with a good head on their shoulders. Damned straight, i consistently see experienced most often older TI's that cannot land a parachute well at all, competence and confidence is everything in tandem skydiving. I usullay just leave them dangling, I know i should probably reconnect them, but I should probably not be using a precision reserve in a sigma container, let alone a icarus main, or use my secondary drogue release as my primary, or punching 8/8ths clouds below 5k... If I have to cutaway I have legs to grip and words to speak, I am quite confident that the pivot point is not a problem. The toggle hooking up is more of a concern. but my technique does not locate my toggles anywhere near the hips of the passenger. We fly only Icarus 330's for EVERYBODY, even up to 140kg (300lb's) passengers, so the toggles are only at around the customers shoulders when piloting the canopy. As far as I am aware I have only ever worked with 1 instructor that does this, I have worked with well over 100 different tandem masters! For us it is free for full time staff, to around 14k(most likely 12k) out of a caravan. On the condition that the plane is already going up and slots are available. This is a pro of having a handycam only operaton, the business is not skint! last load is best as there can be plenty of slots. I think I have found Utopia, we have another DZ 35 mins drive away that has a skyvan and a large competition swoop pond that is away from the sea breeze. I earn good money and get 2 rostered days off! Many of the available slots are filled, I like to let the packers have first dibs on load one and the last load. This is the best deal I have come across at any DZ I have worked for, not to say I havn't had it good before, but they say nothing is free, but fun slots at work are, if you are the one on it. Which cross brace Canopy have the best opening?
rhys replied to mar.rei's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi, the sail material is supposed to give the canopy a more rigid wing once inflated, sail material is usually used by top swoopers to improve thier already long distances and fast speeds. it adds significant pack volume to your rig and is not necessary for everyday use. If you have a larger container and reserve and are looking at downsizing then a sail JVX may work but the increase in poack volume is quite significant. Most likely too big for your you container. I would suggest a ZP JVX, leave the sail cloth until you are competing seriously or are willing to jump a container that is much bigger than usual. Which cross brace Canopy have the best opening?
rhys replied to mar.rei's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi, I suggest a JVX http://www.nzaerosports.com/products/daedalus-jvx I have a JVX 79 (loaded 2.4)iand it has the best openings!! I have had a JVX 86 and an 84(hybrid) and they also had nice openings. My 79 however has a larger slider proportionaly than the 84 and the 86 had. I just had an RDS made so I know the measurments of the slider, it is 60cm x90cm (23 2/3" x 35 1/2") including the flaps that JVX's have. It 'looks' like a tandem slider, it is great. The slider is so large that when you flake the slider you flake the canopy, You can essentially trash pack it but I like to give a little attention (5 seconds) to the nose and flake the tail nicely. The only (uploaded) video I have is a malfunction I had(clicky), it was totally my fault, I checked the brake lines and was disrupted, put the canopy down, and picked it up again a short while later without running my fingers through the lines again.... =tention knot! But you can see the opening is really nice... until the slider comes down in this case. That canopy was the 86. I have only had 3 malfunction/cutaways in my 6000 or so jumps this is the only malfunction/cutaway that I have had on a sport canopy since the maveric 200 I had for my first few hundred jumps. That mal. (the JVX) was pure packing error/laziness and out of carachter for the JVX but it still does show how nice the opening sequence is up until full inflation, for your viewing. My JVX79 has the 90cmx60cm (23 2/3" x 35 1/2") slider and it came stock with the canopy from new. I have over 1000 jumps on a JVX wit video camera, digital SLR wit sigma 10-20 lens +extras = Heavy! I have no problems doing 10 + jumps day like this consecutively with my JVX's, while I see 'Other' cross braced canopy pilots swapping out sliders 'for bigger ones' to get softer openings... There are others that open well also but The JVX IMHO is the nicest and is the most modern and advanced design HP parachute available today. happy shopping! How about PD starts making their stuff with sail material???
rhys replied to stayhigh's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
From canopypiloting.com; New Zealand is 'a' world leader in sailing technology, it is nice to see a solution was only down the road, most of NZaerosports materials are usually ordered through the USA which can up the price, with fluctuating exchange rates. it is inevitable that these 'sail' parachutes will get wet so it is a good job the problem was identified and resolved. Oh, In that case, an examiner would have already made that decision for themseleves. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I don't know what youy are doing over there but where I am from it is a great job with the best hours and pay, around! i earn about $80k (as well as my wife), take time off for competitions and boogies, and don't have to go to work when it rains or is too windy? What is it that is so unapealing to you about tandems? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I found the manual, and packed the rig. It is surprizing how hard it is to find the manual, evrn on the precision website i could not find it?? maybe I'm just blind? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Hi, I am repacking a tandem rig, and i am 'pretty sure' I know the correct technique but that is not good enough for me, after a search i still cannot find the manual on line. It is a precision Tandem reserve, and I am unsure of their packing technique. It has been some time since I packed this particular type of reserve. can anyone help? I need this rig to be jumpable tomorrow, but not happy to pack without the manual. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Sorry just a 'really bad' assumtion, i have not really seen many vector 2 sport rigs but many vector 2 tandems. my bad, my apologies. I didn't look at the rings and only saw the second picture.
