Who has killed someone? In combat or for self defence.
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
You watch too many violent movies, when is that last time you ever knew anyone that that had happened to. sht does happen, yes, but I am not going to live in fear. I have yet to experience such an ordeal, and I cannot say I will never experience it, but you know what, I'll enjoy my life to the maximum until it does. It is people who 'want' guns tht are more inclined to express these violent tendencies, than ones that do not. Where do 'you' suggest one might find it essential to carry a gun in order to survive? just so i know not to go there! In america, anyone can do anything they desire. They just need to fnd the motivation to do so! i left my family behind (in a safe place) to find my dreams. what is stopping anyone else? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
That is subjective, upon knowing the potential dangers they may be in upon exiting an aircraft, the custeomer may be stiffer and less relaxed in freefall. The customer is not in control of the tandem system in the case of the 'carnival ride', so what is the point in teaching them these things. should we alose teach tehm about baglocks and horseshoe malfunctions before thwy go on a tandem, will that make thm safer? It is better they just relax and enjoy themeselves, that makes a much safer tandem skydive, if they like the feeling of freefall and parachuting, then thay can learn for themelves. Tandem is an introduction and a teaching aid. if they want to skip that process, thay can smply apply for a aff, S/L or IAD course. Because they kill people, surely you don't lack compassion altogether? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Is that all! you couldn't possibly enjoy those or kill anyone ith them. why do you have these guns? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

what are you saying, that doesn't make sense! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

One can choose to be where one want's, unless of course thay are on a dictatorship. i personally would rather choose to not live in a place where if fwlt i needed a gun to be safe. I have never been to a place where i felt that was the case, and i have been in downtown LA, moscow, sydney, and many other places arond the workd with millions of people. where is that you live that is so violent that you need to carry a gun in order to be safe? i am from New Zealand, that would be like me calling you a canadian! How about you tell me where I might have to carry a gun in order to be safe and I might try to avoid going there, I think that i wil find that carrying a gun will actually make me less safe, but try telling that to gun idiots. No piece of my property is worth defending my life with. if i travel I will have insurance, if someong muggs me, i'll simply give them what they want. If you pull a gun out, you will be gambling your life, your choice, but a fucking stupid idea! 'please' enlighten me as to where it is that is so violent that you need to carry a gun, in order to survive? These actvities are not intended to kill people, although they are war simulations, they are not actual weapons, they are simulations, real weapons are real weapons. who is in the tiny circle? what do you define as my tiny circle? i have tracvelled all around the world, lived in 6 different countries perfomed many differen't occupations, activities and played quite a few different sports at a competative/representative level. If anything you gun whorrers are the ones on the bubble. Do you suppose i am the only advocate for peace and disarmerment? so now you think Guns are akin to skydiving? you really do need phycological treatment! Funny you should say that, your love of weapons is about as disrepectful as one can get. i cannot imagine anything more violent than unleashing whit an automatic weapon. This is what you desire, and this is what you practice. waanting a vodka bottle in the shape of a murder weapon is plain old 'violent'! what other purposed is there for an AK? paper weight? by simply replying to my comment you made yours null and void. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

call it what you will, T/M is what we usually refer to our positions as. Most people that jump here are not interested in learning to skydive, why push them to do so? Do you also push the video on them, once they have told you they don't want it? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I take you like guns then? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I'm not so much dwelling on people dying in a horrible fashion, it is just the glorification of it, that bewilders me. I wonder what all the fuss is about because i'm sure as this thread shows, killing people is not a very nice thing to do, whatever the circumstance. Yet playing with and owning multipule weapons designed for such actions is considered 'cool', here in the speakers corner. I wondered what all the fuss is about? Personaly I hate warfare weapons and killing, I know people don't need to die, our earth can support more than its current population, yet it seems many want nothing other than death and destruction. I simply don't 'get it'! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
i like the fact that, what would usully be the side flaps of the reserve tray, is actually part of the freebag on the seven. The price at the time due to the aus-euro exchange rate would have made it stupid to buy one though, not sure on the exchange rate now though. Who has killed someone? In combat or for self defence. Since there are so many in here that talk about guns and enjoy them, I wonder if there is anyone here that frequents the SC that has actually had to use one for real, and how they felt about doing so. Even if you 'know' someone that has, and can give details on the psycolocical effects it had on them, I would also be interested to know? Not surprising since the Industrial Military Complex is out of control, more than half of the gobal military spending is done so by the USA (5% of the worlds population). "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

That depends on where you were in the world at the time. The numbering system using zero dates 'A LONG TIME' Before Christ, in Asia and South America Since we use the Hindu Arabic number system, would not that have been allowed for when calculating from the symbols used previously? The history of this is fickle, there were a number of different systems used 'at the time' and it was not until somwhere within a few hundred years before 1000AD, that 'Zero' was adopted by the west. When a scientist talks about BP (before present) what happens to that year, you know, the one between BC and AD? Hi steve, You will find that you would have seen and heard of these incidents coming to be more common due to various reasons, not just lower standards of training and supervision. In the last 10-15 years, the movents in the amount of people tandem jumping, internet use, and the size of archives will have made it seem that there has been a significant increse in incidents. Really there has probably been much less. Sidespins are no longer a phenomenon anymore(at least not for most!), through understanding of flying in other orientations other than on you belly. Many incidents from around the world would not have came to be know by most without the increase in internet use. I was talking to a TM at work just yesterday about how he used to have his milk delivered to the door by horse and cart (late 50's), this was in sydney not in a rural area.but now we can't even have home deliveries... Time goes on and 25 years is a long time. I was talking to a TM at work just yesterday about how he used to have his milk delivered to the door by horse and cart (late 50's), this was in sydney not in a rural area.but now we can't even have home deliveries... Times have changed, there are a number of DZ's around the world doing more than 15-20,000 tandems a year where this was unheard of only 10 years ago... Welcome to the future! I am one that also believes that tandem flying is 'much' easier than aff instructing. There is much less responsability in tandem instructing and the type of flying skills that one needs to perform the job adequately is much more advanced in Aff instruction than it is in tandem. Both techniques are quite different and each individual will find a particular flying skill easier or harder than someone else. I believe tandem and aff jumpmaster ratings should be limited to people with at least 1000 jumps, some people are nowhere near ready at these jump numbers. 500 for tandem and less for AFF is quite simply 'A BAD IDEA', I did not do my tandem rating until 2200 jumps and had filmed anout 1600 tandems at that point, the experience gained and situations I observed in that time made it possible for me to progress and feel confident and competent in a reasonably short period of time. each DZ is different and small cessna DZ jumors will find it more difficult ot gain the same levels of confidence and competence due to not being as current. Each individual is different and with different circumstances. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

quite easily; I find this technique has worked best for me, I try to concentrate on making it sound as simple as possible. You didn't seem to acknowledge the fact that our GCO's spent about 5 minutes with them before we leave to the airport training them also. I just point out that body position is not a stiff action. If they ask me to do a flip I will say yes, if they are stiff I will simply do a posed exit and they will usally not even question me on it, if they are relaxed and smiling I will do a gainer! The best visual especially a nice slow one! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

While this may be true, they both still supply to customers/companies that quite obviously do not fullfill these requirements. They 'willingly' supply to these companies because they are the ones turning around 20,000+ tandem customers a year and puchase tandem conatainers in the amounts of hundreds of thousands of dollars. These companies usually do not purchase the recommended reserve parachutes anr main parachutes either. I dont see Bill and Ted and anyone else telling these companies to 'instruct' thier students, or use thier specific canopies... because they have the option to do a static line IAD or AFF course if they please, most would rather; Pay less, Spend less time fucking around, Have the instructor do everything for them, Or not be responsable for themselves and just have fun. What is the point of teachng someone that is not interested? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
