Its hard to tell from the pics, but I think that reason it didn't clear is that it appears to not be a control line causing the LO. If it was a suspension line LO (C or D line), throwing the toggle won't do a thing.

Not my theory, but a published delay chart from BR & CR. To much PC force can cause over stress on the system, and center cell strip. Center cell strip can cause of headings and line overs. Large PC's (45" +) were never designed for being stowed, and are for 0 - 1 second delays. They are also more likley to hesitate when stowed. Most jumpers I know use a 42" for slider down, and only go to a larger one when handheld on low stuff. A 42" works great on a 1 second or a 3 with no ill effects on either. A notable exception is a guy who uses 38" on everything he jumps, only switching to a 48" for really low stuff.
-
Something to consider is that a 46" PC is really just for go and throw. If you are doing gainers you had to of taken a delay, perhaps 2 seconds. That is a lot of snatch and may have contributed to the LO.

I'd like to see that trick at BD, but with a longer delay.

How about a land on a ranger comp this year?
-
Still plenty for sale. This might be the first year to not sell out. Word to the BDC.
-
Not all are wide. You can also have custom stuff made.
-
Can I sell the Mrs. Slot?
-
We can help by pushing you off at BD. Stability recovery is important when learning aerials.

Glad everyone is high and dry.

Davis Bacon can only make employers pay their workers more. If DB regulated jobs payed less than market rate, workers would go elsewhere and get market rates. There is a shortage of skilled construction labor nationwide. Workers don't need to protection of Uncle Sam to get fair pay. Illegal immigrant labor is far more likely to cause a reduction in construction wages than DB. BTW, I was in sign contracting for years. I remember seeing the DB schedule for wages on these jobs (DC area) and I could not believe what they required wages for electricians. The lowest was in the low $20 per hour and some where $45 and up. In the real world these skills were worth anywhere from $10 to $30 and hour (this was 15 years ago).

Ok Marks...i will not abuse. I'm respecting the necessary time for my development. I know that this is pointless, but the 2 statements above are mutually exclusive. You cannot be respecting time for development if you are at 1.4 on a performance elliptical. In all likelihood you are going to put yourself in the hospital. With 100 jumps you have no buisness at 1.4. One more time: With 100 jumps you have no buisness at 1.4. What possible reason could you have to change canopies, other than to get something bigger that your skills and experience can handle. Even if you were exceptional, you are in very real danger. I know a guy with about 300 jumps who thought he had his 90 degree front riser turns dialed in. He shattered is pelvis and hip, and broke his back as well. I know you are not going to listen, but you are heading right for a hard impact with the earth right now. Change your ways before you are strapped to a back board in a medic choppper.

I have a friend who did a layout on his first base jump at BD 2003. He had some diving experience in school, was a decent freeflyer, and didn't have any problem with it. Anything less than that and you're soft.

Anyone watch Get Up Stand Up last night? It was the history of protest music starting with the labor movement's protest songs right up through the sixties and present day. Very interesting, and I realised that a lot of the music I relate to (I was born in 69) was war protest and "peace & love" music. It got me thinking that the reasons for invading Vietnam and the ensuing mess are nearly identical to those for Iraq. I was for the invasion, but I'm all for getting out now. We aren't getting anywhere, nor is there any reason to believe that we will. The mess we leave behind may be biger or smaller if we leave now, (according to an NPR report, there is already civli war in Iraq) but one things for sure, if we leave we won't have any more of our people killed there, and it won't cost another $300B this year.

Kallend, If you change your statement ever so slightly, it is still true. "the government, with its coercive and quasi-monopoly power, should not be in the business of undercutting private enterprise. Authorizing government contractors to pay workers MORE than the normal laws of supply and demand warrant is a distortion of the free market just as much as setting a minimum wage is. Davis Bacon is a joke, and nothing more than another wealth re-distribution effort. The wages that DB demands is part of why everything the govt. builds costs way more than if built by the private sector. Still, a valid observation.

I don't think that having the attachement point at the hips will have any negative effect. Nearly all canopies benefit from opening the chest strap as it allows the canopy to expand to its proper shape. In swooping it is mandatory to open up the chest strap as the canopies perform noticably poorer without opening it. Form the video I would say that your brake lines are too short. Their should be a couple inches of slack in them when you are at full flight. You can tell if they are correct if there is a curve in them at full flight, as opposed to your's which are pulled stright and taunt. I'm fairly certain that your buffeting was caused by a change in air pressure by a thermal or downdraft. Canopies seldomly buckle like that without oustside input, and if they had something built in that caused that it would keep doing it. Either way, your nuts. Keep up the good work.

The Six P's: Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance Don't blame the rig, blame the rigger.

Nice letter Jason, Keep up the great work. Also, let me know if you need me to visit any congressional offices in DC on your behalf. They are all a 45 minute drive, and a personal visit may go a long way. The NPS headquarters is in DC also.

Next year, go for maximum number of jumps total in 24 hours by as many jumpers as possible. Like a 24 hour Bridge Day. Can the jump community do 1000 jumps off the Perrine in 24 hours?

As odd as it seems I want to caycongratulations to Miles on hi new world record. The press was positive and the article in Magic calley definitely made the event out to be a cool one. I'm sure that it was a good time, and if it was anyone else I would have thought it was cool from the get go. Miles has rubbed me the wrong way on some things, but I shouldn't let that get in the way of supporting an event like this crazy shit. To do that many hikes and that many jumps takes some real soul, and possibly some really good speed. Congrats again. You earned it. Cya.

At least 3 base jumpers have had broken and/or released 1 riser and lived to tell the tail. Its not going to be pretty to land on hard earth, but over water it would be no big deal.
-
DAMN! Thats almost 2-1/2 football fields.
-
Relax Bryan, Unhooking one riser isn't going to kill anyone, especially at the Perrine. I wouldn't joke about killing someone, but splashing them into the perrine on one riser would be a lot funnier than a line over that could be cleared.

In my opinion, you have played right into the game. Do a big PR event that is 90 percent look at me, and 10 percent charity, and you can hide behind that 10 percent charity. As I said before, I tried to look as this as as a positive, I really did. But the core of it is not a charity event, it is a publicity stunt. I've seen lots of charity events with some sort of golf, tennis, or running event used to gather pledges. This clearly isn't one of them and appears to have had the charity part "tacked on" for good measure. You all have your opinion and I have mine. I see the continuous antics of an overgrown ADD child seeking as much attention as he can garner, often at the expense of others. If you see this as a big cahrity event I ask again, where was the effort to gather pledges? Why no corporate supoprt of a so called Red Bull sponsored athlete? If you can't answer those questions, then just maybe there is something to the analysis. And for the record, I don't hate Miles, I am embarassed to be associated with his childish behavior, and thats why I don't like him attempting to represent base to the public. 98% of base jumpers are pretty normal people with real jobs & real lives and are far away from WHOOOOOOOOO, DOOOOOOD, its like being Born!!!
