I just took all my gear from ATL to DFW last weekend. It didnt get a second glance here in ATL, and they were more intrested in my camera gear than my rig in DFW. In fact the only place Ive ever had a problem was margarita island off the coast of Venezuela, but then all I had to do was pull my rig out of the bag and the sent me on my way. No not literally! I and some others will be in the tunnel on Saturday night, Oct. 14. Were free to do whatever during the day while we wait on our block to come up. then when were done, we'll be hittin the town. If we've got the energy . You could carry your helmet as a personal item. I have no idea how big your gear bag is, but if you get it close the the size of a carry on, that will be no problem. Then just carry your helmet in a back pack or something, unless you have a camera, then you'd have ot pack it in the backback too. I dont see why not. Its amazing what people drag on to planes as "carry-ons" and "personal" items. Hell some of em have that and then bring a couple shopping bags too. I prefer not to have my rig uncovered, I.E. in a bag of some sort. Its easier to use the chest strap to tie the harness together and the reserve handle down with the chest strap. That way the handle cant be pulled accidentially, AND if have to undo all that to get in the harness to jump it. FWIW: I know I can fit my rig, and all other items in my roll-on, including my bonhead helmet, but my camera helmet is a no go. This late in the season I dont know that there will be too many peeps out there on a Friday night. Im sure if you just wanted a place to crash thats no problem. I am completely unsupervised that weekend, but that also means I must take care of our doggie. I'll probably not be out till mid AM Saturday. Oh, and sleeping on those couches? Eeeewwww! I have a bag that fits my rig, jumpsuit, goggles, altimiter, etc. theres just enough room left for a change of underwear and toothbrush too. It just barely meets the carryone requirements, which are not enforced. then I also have my camera case. You actually get ONE carry one and ONE "personal" item: laptop, purse, etc. Plus, your travelling on a CRJ, or other commuter aircraft, you'll have to check it gate side anyway, but you get that back as soon as you land. On a serious note. its YOUR rig. Do what ever makes you happy. What ever you get, you have to live with until you sell it! dont listen to us unless you REALLY arent sure what you want. Ive seen the purple on older Wings fade over time. I have not had any experience with newer ones for a while. Other bad choices: Pink, Orange, florecent green all have been traditionally bad to fade. its awfully busy for me. Also, some of those colors may not wear well over time, affecting resale. it may be a long time in the future, but you probably be selling it at some time. but then again what do I know. Well I guess I dont really get the desire to milk a cow. I grew up in a hybrid of life styles. One weekend I'd be in town riding my bike, and another on a family farm working, and another in the woods hunting. Milking a cow is work, you get shit on, you get pissed on, and if you're real lucky you get kicked. But hey, Ive you never done it before, I say go for it.
