Maybe its just me, but... It seems there are a lot if you out there stuffing canopies larger than recommended by the mfg. into you containers. Im just as poor as the next guy but if your canopy is not suppoesed to go in there maybe we should look at buying a new container. As far as psycho packing I just never got the hang of it cuz at a couple of boogies I could pro pack faster than psycho and PRO packing just works great for me. But then again im not stuffing a 190 in a 150 bag! Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #865

I dont know much about the safire, but I demo'd a 135 cobalt for about 35 jumps and was amazed. I was going to order one, but it was gonna take 6 months to build, so while I was thinking on it I jumped another brand and thought it to be even better and not as "sensitive" as the others have said. I thing the sensitivity makes it feel like its more responsive, but hey its just an opinion. Overall I enjoyed the Cobalt. Just found one i liked more. Tell me about it, my old home DZ is now my backup DZ. It used to be so, relaxing and easy going, but now its just feels stiff. No one sticks around after dark, everyone shows up at 9 and a load wont go up till 11. If you dont like the feel, there are other great places to go. I drive 2 hours to 'feel' good about the place I jump. Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #865

is USPA responsible for our reputation?
yardhippie replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I dont like the sound of that, USPA should stay OUT of competition. Maybe set some guidelines for keeping events safe, by all means. Thats what we want, a safe sport not a regulated sport. Being the poor skydiver that I am, I dont belive the complexities of an organization this size can be handled in such a way. But hey, its a great idea. Yes we need this unity to effect the chagnges we need, BUT part of that comes from public opinion. Just as candidate will never win with a poor repution, perception of skydiving will do the same. If the public thinks were not safe, we have a huge battle, but if they think were dooing a great job. Keeping skydiving alive is sooo much easier. The USPA, in my mind, should see to all these fronts. Yes, and the license the DMV gives a person, binds them to an agreement not to break traffic laws. Yet it happens constantly and everybody at least knows that person who does it. Until, skydivers as a group, speak up when they see those violations, and urge the leaders of the USPA to make changes so that we can better CONVINCE those DZs and skydivers who are not 'safe' we are looking out for their best interests. I envision a set of rules that doesnt expel membership b/c of violations, but keeps the USPA working WITH those people. If you cut someone off, chances are they will become unwilling to listen to any outside influence. Whatever the outcome, I just want to continue to go to fun, and safe DZs and meet all the great people out there. I have heard different people preach about the abilty of under 18 jumpers to sign a waiver. But if you really think about it, there are high school kids performing in all sorts of sports that range from basket weaving to motocross. I belive that skydiving falls in with the more extream of those sports. If our USPA were really working FOR us (the skydivers) they would be pushing for the public and politicians to understand that. The genral public only knows what they hear about skydiving, which is when someone gets hurt, and I dont know how many times someone I meet thinks were all a bunch of adrenalin crazed idiots who have nothing better to do than "throw ourselvs out of airplanes". A better USPA would work to convince the world otherwise, so younger skydivers would be more accepted. I know the Mullins' and love that DZ, the people there are top notch. I am astounded at the skills of those kids and their attitudes. We should all be so lucky!
