No, I said that people should keep their eyes open to make sure that does not happen. I did not say that HAS happened. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

They opened up for Ministry years ago when I saw them in Orlando. They umm.....errr....ahhh....they performed.

Well Jason McClure, you just might ask your team mate Matt Norris from the Angry Beez about who I am and what I'm about. Hidden agenda? Oh please. I'll assume that you don't know who I am or what I've done about jump plane education and safety. So, click on my website and look around. www.DiverDriver.com. I've met Paul once. That was during the record attempts at SDC in 2000. So how could I have something against Paul? I believe that anyone being investigated by the IRS, Dept. of Treasury, and the Securities and Exchange Commission has a lot of issues going on. I always tell jumpers they should be aware of the planes they jump out of and how they are maintained. Nothing has changed. It's what I do. Maybe it's because I'm tired of having my friends die in jump plane accidents. In my 8 years in this sport I have had 24 friends killed in jump plane accidents. That's why I started my website. I didn't see anyone else doing anything about what I percieve to be a problem. The Cypres was started because someone was tired of no-pulls in this sport. He saw a need. He did something about it. I am trying to do the same thing. So, as for being someone who likes to hear his own voice well, you might be right. Because as long as I have breath in my lungs I will try to educate as many jumpers and pilots about what safe aircraft operations are about. Am I trying to spread dirt on someone? How can I be? It's on a public website for all to see like accident reports on the FAA and NTSB sites. We have "Press Clips" on all sorts of topics here on DZ.com. How is my post different from that? Also, this thread was dead. It's been 8 days without posts. If you didn't want my words spread around why did you bump it up? It's not like many go back and search my posts in Talk Balk. What not to do (how the Aggie almost died)
diverdriver replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You are correct. Reserves are not guaranteed either. However, I have seen the first hand results of riding a spinning mal with a low cutaway. Which is easier? Teach people in an adrenaline rush moment to do something perfect that may come out before they hit the ground? Or teach them to do something they learned in the FJC which is to get rid of a canopy you can not land at your hard deck? Prayer should have nothing to do with your regular emergency procedures. God gave you a brain. We all should use it by recognizing the limitations of the human mind under stress. We don't think as clearly and something that sounds so simple, such as keeping altitude awareness during a stressful moment, is not as easy in reality. We've all done it. So, "just reach up and even the risers and the line twists will come out" is NOT something I condone during spinning/diving line twist malfunction. A big galoot like AggieDave has the strength to force the situation into getting out of it. I would say that many others (especially many female jumpers) do not have the upper body strength to change the outcome. Our friend at SDC did not have the strength to untwist his lines. He chose to cutaway at 200 feet. He did not survive. Make the decision early. If you are hanging directly under your line twists with no spinning then you have until 2,000 feet to work the problem. After that you need to consider cutting away. If you are in a line twist malfunction that is spinning (whether you are on your back or front) you should not waste time (altitude) trying to get out of it because the effort necessary to get out of it might be more than what you have. The delayed decision to cutaway can then be fatal to you. I stand by my words. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -
What not to do (how the Aggie almost died)
diverdriver replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nac, By no means am I bashing AggieDave. He's an upright guy. He did a good thing by posting his experience here. But we should take the time to disect the event so that all can see how personal decisions and view points effect what we do in the air. Not saying "I'm right , you're wrong". The "right" thing may not always be the right thing in every situation. Monday morning quarterbacking is such a cliche but that's how we learn and pass on knowledge. Something that others will take away with them. Dave may not see the things that others see from the outside. Newbies may not put the pieces together just by reading his first commentary on the event. Others more experienced may show some correlation between points. And yes, they can choose to ignore my points too. I hope they don't. I've seen the results. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -

Aggie, 1. Glad you're ok. 2. I don't know if I remember correctly but did you not tell people it was ok to get out of spinning line twists by just evening out the risers? I believe that I disagreed with that sentiment (if you didn't say that I apoligize. Don't want to put words in your mouth.) The reason is that you are now in a HIGH SPEED malfunction. The altitude you lose is tremendous for the seconds you spend trying to "fix" it. We told the story of "Hairy Bob" at SDC last summer. Told people to quite trying to get out of spinning line twists because you most likely do not have the time. We had Bruce cutaway at 200 feet and go in because his reserve was just getting line stretch. People must recognize that line twists that spin must be cutaway because you are not guaranteed that you will be able to get out of them. You are better off cutting away and pulling your reserve at a higher altitude. You will have more time to pick a landing spot. You must survive the skydive. Analyze the line twists once you are on the ground and have time to think about it. Not while you are actually under canopy. Aggie, thanks for sharing this experience. You probably have just saved someone else's life and they will remember this. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -
1441 was passed 10 years ago? I thought it was passed last fall?

Spotting: Time to brush up on your skills.
diverdriver replied to jerm's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I use a handheld Garmin GPS III Pilot. When I first got it before SA was turned off I had an EPE of 60 feet. Not bad. Then SA was turned off and the EPE went down to like 20 feet. Now it was up to 45 feet. I'll tell you, if I was always able to fly within 45 feet of course I'd be a shuttle pilot. -
And of course, my opinion is that it has everything to do with each other. I feel that if we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. I see this action as breaking the link in a chain leading to another "accident".

Ummm.....ummm.....ummmmm...... Dang Dave. Course...I agreed with this from the beginning so I don't count.

And did he comply?

League of Nations. edit: damn......3 way tie.

I think it absolutely irresponsible that the press is announcing this. They should not be broadcasting ANY troop movements. I thought it was bad enough saying the first divisions were across the boarder.

I often ask myself the same question. Why? edited to add: And why be a USPA Group Member? Why?

Just checked my GPS and the EPE (Estimated Position Error) is 45 feet. I checked against a known waypoint I set and while standing on the spot it said I was 45 feet away. The EPE had been down to 20 feet so I guess they have some degredation going on but I doubt it would effect my dropping jumpers much. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -
[doning fire retardant suit] They forgot to add "TWICE!" [ducking for cover from ensuing flame throwers] Oh, and to add: Iraq is reporting that 72 missiles have hit Bagdad. All but 4 have failed. Bwahahhaha. Yah, the Iraqis always tell the truth about weapons. Brother.
