I actually had a guy climb out on the step of a 182 without a rig on doing aerial photography. Scared the begesus out of me. He wanted the door up on the string "holder" so that it wouldn't come down if I didn't fly coordinated. Yah, right.

Tandem Rating (well, got on to probation and did live students, then stopped doing them) IAD Jumpmaster Wanna be rigger with 4 actual saves 4,500 hours flying 3,000 flying jumpers Flying jumpers for 8 years Jumping out of planes 7.5 years Flew on 2 world records Spotted record attempts perfectly 23 out of 24 times Flew on one episode of "It's a Miracle" Have one website for jump pilots like no one has done before. LOL......nice. Yah, I landed out a bunch early in my career when other pilots were flying. I didn't mind. I knew where I was going to land even if it wasn't on the airport. Never seemed to bother me. Just got a longer walk, that's all. Then I got really interested in getting better at it so that when people jumped from my plane they had the best chance of landing on. WDIs are only good if you are exiting at 3,000 feet. The drift you measure is for the canopy ride. But what about the freefall drift? I think this is why we don't throw WDIs anymore.
