  1. As mentioned by other posters, unless you need applications that are not yet compiled to run on the Intel chips I would trade it in immediately. Better, brighter screen, faster processor ..and 2 of them...I'd do it. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  2. The poor perpetrators. Why in the hell do we pity them? A year or so ago in Toronto a woman was being held at knifepoint by a deranged man (may have been an ex, I can't remember). After long and fruitless talks with him a police sniper shot him and killed him. Of course, the bleeding hearts moaned about how they should have kept negotiating, they were too quick, etc, etc. Never did I hear any of them put themselves in the woman's shoes and consider what it was like having a knife held to your throat by a lunatic who might just take your head half off at any moment. I bet she couldn't wait for them to shoot the asshole. If you use a weapon, threaten other people's lives with it and are killed by a police officer....who is doing his job to protect the innocent....tough shit. (fancy a Canadian talking like that...not all of us are bleeding hearts up here.) -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  3. The bigger question is....What is Canada remembering? Actually, last Year was the "Year of the Veteran" up here. The vets are getting paid their dues and recognition. Don't get me started on the present sorry, abysmal state of our military though. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

  5. great game! Justin Pogge made two awesome saves in the early going that may have saved the game. If the Russians had gotten up two goals I think they would have won. (My boss played for Canada in the 1968 Olympics and played in the Gold Medal game against Russia that year. They got beat by the Russians. He said they've always been the same...if they get a lead they are hard to beat. He felt the saves by Pogge were crucial.) This was a complete team effort by Canada...who were definite underdogs coming in, with the US and Russia both expected to be the Gold medal contenders....and a great job of coaching by Brent Sutter. Just an excellent hockey game! I'm looking forward to watching some of these young guys at Saskatoon Blades games....a lot of them are from the WHL. The Russian goalie, Khudobin, is the Blades' goaltender, but he has had an inconsistent year for the Blades...brilliant one game and a sieve the next.. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  6. Here's a video of the first one I did from a 182. The rider, Annette, took grips on my yoke and hopped aboard as we left. I have done 3 from 182s and all were successful launches. On the second the rider had a leg or knee messing up one of my wings and we were turning constantly for the first half of the dive. Be sure they are aware of where to put their legs when climbing aboard. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

You can burn a song purchased from iTunes an unlimited number of times....however.... The restriction you mention is actually related to burning playlists. You can only burn the same playlist containing purchased songs 7 times. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

For older iPods the best way to upgrade the battery is to do it yourself. A couple of months ago I bought a replacement battery for my 2nd gen iPod from Newer Technologies for $35. It took me about 10 minutes to take the iPod apart, remove the old battery and put in the new one. My battery life is great now...20+ hours if I just let it sit and play. For the most part, I think Apple addressed the battery issues with the 3rd gen models. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Where does this error message show up? iTunes or on the screen of the iPod? Which iPod are you using? Are you using Firewire or USB? Are your cables ok? Do you have a different cable to use to connect to your PC? Is your iPod firmware up to date? There was a recent firmware update released. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  11. How about "The New Odyssey" ... which is a reference to "The Odyssey", an old bar in Z-Hills that catered to a mostly skydiving crowd way back when. TK, I don't think even you are old enough to remember that place. Failing that, I like Z-Lounge or TKs -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  12. Unfortunately, my gut tells me that the Liberals will be forming the next government. I hope the hell I am wrong but I think it is going to happen again. 14. The first three post in this thread were from Canadians. None of which supported the ban. Add me to the list of Canadians against this proposed ban. One of the little fucks charged in the Toronto shooting was under a firearm ban because of a previous conviction...He just got out of jail 3 weeks before Boxing Day...fat lot of good the ban did. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  15. The 1988 Olympic Rings skydive into the opening ceremonies of the Seoul Olympics was beamed live...I recall a couple of bits of bad reception but it worked pretty well. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  16. Burke, as the owner of a 2nd gen ipod that is smaller than the Wolverene which measures 5.1 x 3.1 x 1.2 inches according to the website I think that the Wolverene would be a pain in the behind to use as an mp3 player. Too big. I wish my iPod were smaller for carrying around and listening to music. The new iPods are far smaller: 30 gb 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.43 inches 60 gb 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.55 inches (1/2 as thick as the Wolverene) Price - I paid $799 CAD for my 20gb 3 years ago and now the 60gb iPod is $499 CAD...cheap like borscht. Anyway, whatever you buy, pick up a pair or two of these to replace whatever headphones you get. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  17. Now, all new hard drive iPods do photos, video, etc. The iPod Photo designation doesn't apply anymore. The nano will display photos but it resizes them smaller for the nano display and to save space. the iPod photo connector uses the camera's USB cable to connect so if you have a USB 1.1 camera the transfer rate will be slowwwwwww. A USB 2 camera should transfer real fast. iPods sync the photos as soon as they are connected again to a computer ... you get a few choices on a Windows machine, on a Mac it just syncs to iphoto automatically. Every time you connect your iPod to your computer your photo directory and the iPod are synced...a perfect backup immediately. Great feature. When I get around to buying one of the new ones it will be nice to always have the photos backed up. But, my 3 year old 20gb 2nd gen iPod just keeps on working. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  18. Click on File>Create New Smart Playlist Then set up something like "Bit rate is greater than 10 kbps" which will select all your library and then check the box that says: "Match Only Checked Songs" let me know if that does it for you... edited to add: If you check the "Live Updating" box this should keep your new iPod mini smart playlist constantly up-to-date. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  19. I think the playlist option is your only option. I assume you're using a Windows machine. I checked Versiontracker for iPod/iTunes windows utilities and see one that allows you to find songs without artwork...I wonder if that could be hacked to select songs with checkmarks? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

    iPod help!

Yes, it takes forever to do the encoding into H.264...quality is great but it does take time. I converted a 38 minute video and let it run overnight...probably took about 6-7 hours.
