  1. Yahoo!! My young jumper buddy that gave me the rig took a look through his stuff today after I told him that the ripcord was missing and found it! So, I'm good to go......if it will ever stop snowing in this godforsaken province.. Thanks to all for your help.....fortunately I didn't need it this time. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  2. Sorry, but that's how I did it...May 3rd is 22 years butt free for me. Good luck and hang in there for 10 more seconds when you want a smoke...and then 10 more seconds....etc. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  3. Hi Bill, I'll get the ripcord housing measurements for you tomorrow. Trade....Hot dog pilot chute with a Safety Star freebag attached? Or, how about a kicker plate? Might have something else but I'll have to dig around. 4. I need a ripcord for the B-4 container I recently acquired. The cones' centers are 5 1/4 inches apart. Does anybody have a spare they could part with? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  5. Pete Chapman has e-mailed me to advise me that I don't have my facts straight on this accident. The loop broke but not at the base. It broke partway up. Very strange location and apparently no cause was ever determined. I had heard that it broke at the base by the washer but obviously my information was incorrect. It's still a good idea to make sure the washers are smooth. Thanks for giving me the correct facts Pete. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  6. "Barry" - There's an old quote by Wilbur Wright...you know, one of the Wright Brothers of Kitty Hawk fame....that goes something like this: "If you're looking for perfect safety, you better stay at home and sit on the fence." Thanks for your concern, but how stupid do you think we are? Do you think we are unconcerned when someone dies? Do you think we shrug and continue on without examination of the facts and situation? DO you think we don't institute practices and procedures to prevent similar incidents? Do you think we are cavalier with one another's lives? Skydivers are family. We participate in an inherently dangerous pastime but we don't put one another in harm's way unnecessarily. This was a freak accident. Right now, I feel absolutely terrible for the pilot, Bill Buchman, who must be replaying everything that he did over and over, trying to find the answer that would have prevented this from happening. He is extremely experienced and knowledgable. If there is something that should be changed...I am sure he will think of it. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  7. Very good advice. Make very sure that whatever you use cannot cut into the loop. A triple tandem fatality in Ontario in 1993 had it's genesis from a closing loop that broke at the bottom by the washer. The main container opened and it resulted in a main reserve entanglement. The videoman, Kelvin Brundrett, died trying to save the tandemmaster, Steve West, and his passenger. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  8. Patrick, Macs are like divorces.... They are expensive because they are worth it!! Cheers, -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  9. I've seen Gus Wing photographs in various publications since I started jumping in 1980 and it is very sad to learn of this unfortunate accident. Condolences to everyone feeling the pain of his loss. 10. Here's photos of the sleeve on my recently acquired 7TU C9.... -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  11. I have another 3 pin rig with a PC and a front mount 24' "swinger" reserve. But, I think I'll pack it into a modern rig with 3-rings. I don't mind jumping a cheapo, PC or dactyl as a main but I really don't want to jump conventional gear. The thought of a high speed opening on a 24' diaperless round..... -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  12. A couple of weeks ago one of the young guys in the club cleaned out the clubhouse attic. He called me and told me he had a parachute for me...me being a dinosaur to the young guys....and did I want to pick it up? A day or so later I swung by his place and picked up a four pin rig with a sleeve and a parachute in the sleeve. I asked him what kind of main it was and he said....a PC. It wasn't until the night before last that I got a chance to lay everything out on my front lawn and open the sleeve to see what was inside it. Well, it was like discovering GOLD!!! It wasn't a PC, it was a 7TU C9! In excellent, excellent shape. I made my first jump on a 7TU C9 on May 31, 1980. Guess what I'm gonna jump on May 31, 2005? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

    iSight???

I bought my mother in law an iSight and it works well. I've used my camcorder to use iChat AV and it does work very well. The new version of iChat AV coming out with Tiger on the 29th enables 4 at a time to video chat and uses a new codec (H264) for what looks like better quality. Do you have a Firewire camcorder? If you want to try out iChat AV using your camcorder drop me a PM and we can set up a time to give it a try. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  14. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! George is melting down already. God I love it. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  15. I strongly suggest you upgrade to iLife 05 which has iPhoto5 included in it. It is much, much, much faster. It also has some pretty decent abilities for improving photos and many other things. Edited to Add: Go to versiontracker.com and do a search for iPhoto Buddy. It is a little freeware program that allows you to set up multiple iPhoto libraries and choose which one you want . This program was very helpful to me before iPhoto 4 came out and relieved the slowness of previous versions when you got a few hundred photos in your library. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  16. Apple just released updates to the above....available in Software Update. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  17. A couple of times. Yes. I submit reports to Apple when that happens, in hopes that they will fix what is causing the application to crash. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  18. And this works on the Mac OS X version as well...just Control-click instead of right click if you're using a one-button mouse on your Mac. Everything else was exactly the same. Thanks for the tips! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  19. Hey Marc, As someone who has had way more dental chair time than I care to remember you have my sincere sympathy and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Keep us posted on how the implants work out for you...it is something that may be in my future ... Best wishes, -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  20. Did the plaster of paris pick up the detail? Does the cast or bird bath still exist? I think every dropzone should have a copy as a first jump course aid -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  21. I've only used a Powerbook with the 12" screen and it is very nice but with my middle aged eyes I'd like more screen real estate. As far as duplicating your DVDs.....very easy to do. Put the disc in the drive. Start Disk Utility (found in your applications/utilities folder). Select the disc from the list of drives in the left hand side of the disk Utility window. Click on the Create New Image button. From the drop down boxes, select DVD/CD master and no encryption. Have it make the image and save it to the desktop or wherever you want. After it has created the image, take the DVD out of the drive, and double click on the disk image you just created...which will have a .cdr extension...and mount it. Select it in Disk Utility and click on the burn icon. It will prompt you to put a blank dvd in your drive. Put the blank dvd in the drive, click on OK...and it will burn you a new copy of your dvd. If you keep the .cdr image you can make a new DVD whenever you want. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  22. Hi Bill, It was Guy that told me the story...thanks for giving me the story of the jump itself....I shouldn't laugh...but I am really hard. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  23. hehehe...So, the story I was told in 1985 (by a Perris jumper who now lives in Sweden) about the bird bath crater is true! Until now I was never completely sure that I wasn't being had. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  24. Try exporting from iMovie4 as full quality DV to a Quicktime file. There is a self-contained option or something like that if I remember correctly. See if that solves your sync problems. If it does, drag the file into iDVD..... If you have set up chapters in iMovie4 the chapters should appear in the Quicktime player as a drop-down list at the lower right. Drag the file into your iDVD window and drop it and it will give you the "Play Movie" and "Select Chapter" options. Edited to Add: iMovie HD won't export to DV and include the Chapter Markers/Track....something that I really missed as it is nice to be able to export several videos, all with chapters and then drop the files into a separate folder in iDVD and then each video has the "Play Movie" "Select Chapters" option. So, a couple weeks ago I happened upon a bunch of Applescripts...a few of which are for Quicktime and one of which allows you to add Chapter markers to a Quicktime file...thereby giving back the ability I thought was lost after upgrading to iMovie HD. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
