You are a lucky guy. I've known a couple of people like that over the years. Pretty rare...most of us that quit go through the hell of quitting. Keep trying and eventually you will find the way that works for you. I tried many, many times during my 16 years of smoking. I quit nearly 23 years ago. Good luck!!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

That did the trick! And before you people say it, there wasnt a manual to read You don't need a manual when you have us here Remi Glad it worked for you, -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I've been a subscriber since 1981. Skydiving is a great magazine. Mike Truffer (the publisher) isn't bound by any agendas and prints stuff you will never see in an organization like USPA/BPA's magazines. Well worth every penny imo. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Not related to Ephpod, but: AFAIK there is no "setting up" needed to make your iPod an external disk. It always shows up as one (or should, hence the original poster's concerns), and I use that capability all the time to carry large files (photo, video, whatever) around. Here's what the Apple SUpport site in iPod 101 has to say... If you haven't already figured it out by now, you can use any iPod model as an external hard drive, allowing you to copy files onto it and shuttle items from one computer to another. This comes in handy if you need to work on projects at the office or school and at home, or you want to transfer your digital music collection from your old computer to a new one. Here's how to enable this feature. Show me how Connect your iPod to your computer. Open iTunes (if it isn't open already), then open iTunes preferences (Mac users, choose Preferences from the iTunes menu; Windows users, on the Edit menu, click Preferences). Click the iPod tab, then click the Music tab in the iPod pane. Select the "Enable disk use" checkbox, then click OK. Your iPod should now appear as a mounted volume on your desktop (Mac) or in My Computer (Windows). To copy files for transport, simply drag any file onto the iPod volume icon, or double-click the volume, create a new folder (or folders), and copy items to it. ----->>>>> I guess another question I have for Remster is: Do you have the iPod formatted for Windows? Go to the Apple Support website and check out the iPod Support...it will answer this for you...I have to get back to work and that's all that I can do for you right now. Good luck. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I followed your instructions and XP was not able to find the printer after entering the IP # and the HP 2200 didn't appear in the list that popped up. So, I gave up. I've wasted enough time to no avail. We called the IT guy at the company that supplied the tablet and left a message asking for a docking station with an optical drive or instructions on how to set up our printers. I really can't believe that it has to be that difficult. Once again guys, thanks for your suggestions. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

For Ephpod to work does the iPod have to be set up to be usable as an external drive? If so, connect your iPod, and in iTunes open the preferences, click on the iPod tab and enable external disk usage. At least, that's what I have to do with my old 2nd gen iPod for it to show as a drive....ymmv. Why not use iTunes? Glad to hear the news is optimistic. It must be a great relief for you. I just came back from seeing Lance Armstrong who was in our little city (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - how many of you know where that is? ) giving a speech as a fundraiser for our local hospital foundation. He was great! What an inspiration. He survived a terrible situation by fighting with everything he had and making sure that he had asked all the questions and was certain that his course of treatment was the best possible option. He related that his first opinion was...."not very good odds. etc," and he didn't like that. He consulted with another Doctor who told him they thought they could win. The difference in attitude was what he wanted to hear and he felt he was then in the right place. Well, if Switzerland can beat Canada in hockey at the Olympics I guesss it's not so strange that Canada should beat the US 8-6 in baseball today at the WBC. I'm disgusted by Bonds' cheating and even more disgusted by his outrageous ego and abusive manner to everybody involved with him. He's a complete ass. I hope Selig does something gutsy and suspends him before he breaks Ruth and Aaron's home runs records. He's a cheat and doesn't deserve to be the all-time home run king. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -
According to the Help iMovie automatically detects whether it is PAL or NTSC. SO, if that is true you should be able to set up a new project, import from your PAL miniDV tape and then export as NTSC....here's the cut and paste regarding new projects... Choosing a format for new projects In most cases, when you start a new project, you don't need to choose a video format. iMovie HD can automatically detect whether you're importing footage from a standard definition (DV), high definition (HDV), or Apple iSight camera. However, if you need to, you can choose the appropriate format for your video. iMovie supports video in the following formats: DV NTSC DV PAL DV NTSC Widescreen DV PAL Widescreen MPEG-4 iSight HDV 720p HDV 1080i iMovie HD automatically detects whether your DV format is NTSC or PAL, and detects the frame rate of your camera, so you don't need to specify these items. At times you may create a project that doesn't use a video camera as an input device. For example, you might create a slideshow of iPhoto images with transitions and music. In this case, you can specify the video format that you want the project to have (even though you're not importing from a video device.) To specify a video format for a new project: Choose File > New or click the "Create a New Project" button in the Project window. In the Create Project dialog, click the "Video format" triangle to display format options. Choose the video format options you want. Click Create. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Tom, I think you can do everything in iMovie6....here's a cut and paste from iMovie help I searched for "PAL format" and chose "Exporting your movie for viewing in PAL or NTSC format": Exporting your movie for viewing in PAL or NTSC format.... When you first create a new project in iMovie HD, you can select a video format for the project. The video and images you later add to the iMovie are converted to this format. However, if you need to format your movie to be viewed on a VCR or DVD player that uses another format, you can use the expert export options to convert your movie. NTSC is a format commonly used in North America and Japan. PAL is a format commonly used by devices in Europe. There are also different versions of these two formats, such as DVCPRO-PAL and DVCPRO50-NTSC, so determine the precise format you need before exporting. To export a movie in NTSC or PAL format: Choose Share > QuickTime. Choose Expert Settings from the "Compress movie for" pop-up menu, and then click Share. Type a name for your movie and choose where you want to save it. Choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" from the Export pop-up menu, and then click Options. In the Video pane, click Settings to open the Compression Settings dialog. Choose a format from the pop-up menu (DV-PAL or DVCPRO-PAL for Europe, DV-NTSC or DVCPRO-NTSC for North America and Japan). Choose a value from the Frames Rate pop-up menu (25 for PAL and 29.97 for NTSC) Drag the Quality slider to the desired quality. Best is recommended. Click OK. Click Size to open the Export Size Settings dialog, and then click "Use custom size." Type a value in the Width field (720 for both PAL and NTSC) and in the Height field (576 for PAL and 480 for NTSC), and then click OK. Click Settings in the Sound pane. Choose Stereo (L R) from the Channels pop-up menu in the Sound Settings dialog. Choose 48.000 from the kHz pop-up menu (or type it in the Rate field). Choose 16 from the "Sample size" pop-up menu, and then click OK. Click OK in the Movie Settings dialog. Click Save. Hope that helps... -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

You're the only other person I've come across that owned one of those things. It was the first square I owned. My Cobra 10 opened so hard I couldn't get out of bed the next day after a couple of jumps. I put about 60-70 jumps on mine before buying a new Racer with a Pegasus and a Swift Reserve...I thought I'd gone to heaven...nice openings & great landings. I sold the Cobra 10 to a guy who put about 4 jumps on it before it blew up on opening. It was a really hard opening..obviously...and he never jumped again. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

So, my boss was recently given an IBM X41 tablet pc for being the board member of a company. This machine doesn't have an optical drive builtin. We have a small peer to peer network around a central router and hub consisting of three Macs and 2 pcs. Our printers...one HP 2200 Laserjet and a Xerox 8400 color printer...are set up to use IP addresses. Today I tried to set up the Laserjet on the X41..I downloaded the PCL 6 driver and installed it. Then I tried to add a printer...and got nowhere. (This is my first experience with Windows XP..the other PCs we use have 98 and ME on them) The tablet couldn't find the printer attached to the network. I tried typing in IP addresses....using all the addresses that are used by the router for our little network. Nothing worked. What's the trick? Is there a way to select the HP 2200 from a list of printers like you used to be able to do? Do I have to set something else up so that the printer can be seen? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Six months ago today my wife was diagnosed with leukemia. It turns your world upside down and inside out. Waiting for results is a terrible thing to go through...sometimes not knowing is worse than knowing what you are up against. One day at a time...that's all you can do....and sometimes you have to do each day a minute at a time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The Canadian team was based in Newfoundland, the home of screech and it brought everything on "the Rock" to a standstill. The third from the Canadian rink, Mike Nicholl, had the best quote after the Gold Medal game.... "You kids in Newfoundland that got the day off to watch the game on TV owe us. The rest of you that are partying...pace yourselves:we'll be home on Monday." -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
