Heya all, A couple of links for those of you who don't know the significance of the name for this forum.

Heya all, The Dropzone.com Forums is an incredibly fun place to hang out, and it's a truly open because our community members come in with broad interests and backgrounds from all over the world, yet still find a way to meet on common ground. Users of different cultures, beliefs, and varying levels of skydiving experience intermingle freely. "Open" at Dropzone.com means that new forum members, skydivers and whuffos can come here and ask questions without fear of being put down. "Open" means that users can come here and talk about their opinions without being shut down or kicked at the drop of a hat. "Open" at Dropzone.com means that people can talk about skydiving (of course!) and also about many things outside of the skydiving realm. "Open" at Dropzone.com does not mean that the loudest, most obnoxious, most profane individuals are given the chance to steal the floor by sheer audacity. "Open" has never meant that individuals have a license to abuse the platform and the audience that these forums offer them. "Open" has never meant that blatant racism and sexism should be tolerated. "Open" has never meant that individuals are free to beat topics into the ground and thrive on provoking others. "Shock value" is not something that we value, and it has absolutely nothing to do with true openness. (With respect to the team over at ArsTechnica.) I've made a some changes to the forums to accommodate our growing community and to ensure we can continue to have open discussions. The most significant change is that we've redefined the Forum Rules and I've detailed my interpretation of the rules in the policies. The Forum Rules and policies will be enforced. Continued use of Dropzone.com is your acceptance of the new rules and policies. We run the forums with open minds and try to facilitate an inviting environment where you can talk about a broad range of topics. We love to see people share new ideas, and meet new people. We also appreciate the fact that this is a broad community and the people have different interest and topics they'd wish to discuss and therefore I've restructured the community forums to allow for different types of conversation. Some people want to hang around The Bonfire and just kick back and relax. Others want to get on their soap box at the Speakers Corner and have their say. These two types of activities thrive in two very different environments with very different tones. So that's what we have. To respect those who want to relax, politics, guns and religion as topics around The Bonfire are specifically forbidden. Feel free to walk over to the Speakers Corner and have your go at those topics. I'd suggest that in general you pull up your soap box for any other sociological debate or discussion over there as well. You do not have carte blanche at the Speakers Corner to act irresponsibly and treat others with disrespect. The Dropzone.com Forum Rules and policies apply here in the same way as it does across all other forums. We're hoping that this separation in tone will allow everyone to find a place where they feel comfortable to spend time and meet people. I have also made some changes to curb some of the bad (and outdated) habits that developed over time and hopefully this will improve the experience for everyone. The old titles that used to be related to the number of posts a user has made has been removed. I will use this space in the near future to push more relevant skydiving information from your profile to the front. Please take a minute and update your profile. The emphasis is very much back on skydiving first, so to that extent you'll find that the forums has also been reorganized to move skydiving specific boards to the top. I know that all change is experienced as a death, and that it will be impossible to please everyone. I'm not going to engage in a lengthy debate about these changes but you are welcome to post your feedback in the Suggestions and Feedback forum or send it to me via PM. The forums have grown enormously over the last few years and I'm hoping that these changes will set us up for continued growth and even more fun than ever before in the foreseeable future. So, have fun and remember: the Golden Rule applies.

Yes, but in most cases only the last digits in the IP address change when you get your new dynamic IP. In some cases it's 2 or three blocks of which the last digits change. It's easy to do a wildcard ban on the rest of the IP address. I've done it, it works. There's a slim chance you may catch someone else hitting the same IP block... but it hasn't happened so far! I like the idea too... and the only reason why I haven't implemented it yet is that people use their dropzone.com email addresses all over the web (including this site) and get a lot of spam. This message will pop up every time you receive a piece of spam... Safe swoops Sangiro

We're discussing this already. There's pro's and con's. Thanks. Safe swoops Sangiro

Jasmin, pipe down. You're starting to burn bridges. (excuse the pun!) Safe swoops Sangiro

No you don't. See what happens the moment you abuse it? Safe swoops Sangiro

I can quite frankly pull it away for whatever reason I like. As you just discovered. It is after all my web site. Never have. You don't have to give me a penny and you're more than welcome to keep on enjoying all the benefits available to you on Dropzone.com without any guilt. Always been like that. As long as it's free, that's what it is. Free. You're wrong. Something like Talk Back is in fact needed for the site. Other users here we're spot on when they said it acts as a sponge. Talk Back is a large past of what keeps all the other forums useful. That is true. Exactly. Isn't community one of the things you enjoy about the DZ? But I thought you said Talk Back wasn't needed? Now you're saying closing Talkback is the equivalent of the whole "plane being grounded". It's a bad analogy. The DZO may however ban bonfires at his DZ if people keep picking up burning logs and tossing them into the fuel hangar. A DZO may also decide to close down the bar because fights keep breaking out that brings bad publicity and less jumpers to his DZ. That's noble, and I even agree. But I'm not convinced this group is able to do that on their own on the internet. Comparing the internet to the real world is a bad place to start from. Here people are faceless, anonymous and not accountable. Thought you said we don't need more moderation? I've been on here longer. May be a good suggestion but will not even come close to solving the problem. People are giving way too much credit to this one feature as a contributing factor to the "post whore" problem. People PW because they like to fool around, not because they want to become an "Old Hand" Let's take him out back and beat the shit out of him!

Not sure what's causing this. From my side I've recieved quite a few donations over the last couple of days so it seems to be working.

Unable to post in certain forums. What's wrong?

There's a "Talk Back broken" thread in this forum. There's also a discussion in Suggestions and Feedback. Reading those firt would be greatly appreciated. Safe swoops Sangiro -
Banned? Suspended? What does it take?
sangiro replied to Jimbo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Cool. Let's keep that one going then. -
Yeah - but it would still be $100 more than I'm getting for it now and all of that for a LOT less work. Sounds like a bargain to me. Safe swoops Sangiro

I can assure you I don't have enough advertisers to even buy all the impressions on the topical forums let alone Talk Back. This will not impact them at all. Their ads will simply be displayed in more relevant forums and not get diluted by a bunch of displays in a forum talking about one irerelevant topic after the other. Further - this forum is for bug reports and I have no intention of turning it into the place where people can sound off about how they think things should be done. This is not a bug report so I'm locking this thread. Safe swoops Sangiro

And on the flipside. I can see in my logs that more than 50% of the users who actually read the site regularly, do so as guests and have never registered or logged in. The audience may be smaller than you think, it may also be bigger than you think. The problem is that this kind of stuff prevents them from ever joining. Safe swoops Sangiro

What he said. Let me know how it goes once you've removed all the spyware from your PC. If you do not have a spyware program installed already you are probably going to be surprised be the sheer amount of stuff that has made a nest on your hard drive.

People in the pub can use Google and not Dropzone.com to find these.
