  1. Ok ,, But at deployment you'd be horizontal, and as you "jerked" vertically that "mass" would wanna stay in place, as the rest of your body swung upright, putting more strain on your neck. I was thinkig that the closer to your CG that mass was as it accelearted through the arc of deployment the better. ( Can ya tell I read that post with all the physics dudes replies...) I also have eye's on the horizon and shitloads of video of my canopy opening, so maybe it's not really that big of an issue, it's more important what you do with your head, neck, and shoulders on opening. Have any of the physics folks calculted the forces placed to the neck in each placement??? Sounds like an interesting problem if your into that shit. Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  2. I opted for a side mount, The total weight of my helmet and camera isn't much compared to what you big guns have, but I wanted the weight lower and closer to my CG. It seemed the top mount set it up higher and I assumed would generate more force in a hard opening. Am I off base with that logic??? I have a PC9/Bonehead set up and don't notice the lateral force at all on openings, but haven't experianced a hard opening with it. In the smaller planes it also seems to be less of a hassle than the top mounts. Shit I forgot to answer the poll.... Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  3. LOL! Glad Malin can Jump! Malin I think the biggest thing you need to be aware of is the placement of the generator. Most of them are placed in the sub-q space below the left clavicle and that could be uncomfortable during the initial phase of deployment as you get "jerked" outta the belly to earth position. Padding to spread that force across the area of the generator, maybe in a donut shape, could be helpful. I also heard that a bad opening most of the time, as well as most malfunctions, can be attributed to bad body position at deployment. So be aware at pull time and make sure your slow and stable. Good luck and keep us posted to your progress! Blue Skies, Soft Openings, and Sweet Landings Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  4. Hay Guys, I am occasionally getting a static sounding noise in the audio portion only, clean video, and it's only happened twice, but both times have been in the last 2 weeks during the ground portion of the tandem video and it's obvious as hell,,, I keep the head clean and like I said it's only the audio portion of the signal,, any suggestions on what it may be or what I can do will be greatly appreciated! Thanks AGAIN... Billy ( a Sony PC9) Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  5. Good Luck Bro, Relax and don't read too much into it, remember the basics! Natural Born FlyerZ.com

  8. Looks wide still to me,, Can you try it out first in a something like a hanging harness and see how well you can move your head around. Riser strikes on opening and losing a camera are one thing, snagging has been mentioned also... not being able to rubber neck your landing approach is another all together. Good Luck! 9. Sorry 'bout that, I meant SreadyShot,, I use a PC9, with a 0.6 lens and the zoom in a notch. Auto focus off in the infinity mode. For tandems it seems to work fine but always lookin to better it. Again Thanks! Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  10. OK, Did a quick search and didn't find much on this. Overheard the other day someone saying the SteadyCam feature should be turned off for skydiving, that it can make the image worse by chasing after it. News to me and mine has always been on. Curious if you all are jumping with or without it. Thanks! Billy Natural Born FlyerZ.com

  13. I still grab off all the tandem video using Pinnacle 8, and stick them on the end of the customers video. (Were a small DZ an I edit the video at home,, ) If they want a copy of the stills I let them know they dont enlarge well at all past 5x7, but the CD disc they get for $10 will make a cool screen saver or slide show on there PC at home or work. Another lady wanted them just to make some Christmas cards with. So I guess until I get a new neck and bigger budget it'll have to do! Natural Born FlyerZ.com

  19. < You're on final and find yourself over an obstacle... you're not getting the forward drive you need to clear it. You might be tempted to try a low altitude sachet. Don't. Even a rear riser sachet can drive you into the ground. If you have the altitude, you can go to quarter or half brakes, allowing yourself to be blown backwards away from the obstacle.> Liked how you added the obstacle part after this,, it was the first thing I thought of in this example,, landing backwards, and descending into a turbulent shit hole,, I would try crabbing in half brakes also, but as has been mentioned elsewhere,, setting up your approach is the best way to avoid this... not good to "find yourself" in a situation... Been caught in winds that picked up on the way up also,, landed almost in friggin power lines and opted for a barb wire fence instead,, I was lucky,, was jump #10-15 somewhere and it was rented gear! 21. This is the jist of what I was referring to in my reply in the original post. If were using the system in place properly, at our "high" alt jumps of 23K MSL, it should be just fine for most folks. But if you are older, outta shape, a smoker, been drinking the day/night before, dehydrated, ya better be heads up and have those close by be keeping tabs on you also. At those altitudes you will desaturate quickly after you take off your 0's and start moving around. PS- Climbers at altitude will take weeks/months to allow the physiology to adapt to the low partial pressures at altitude, the 02 level is the same, it's the pressures that drop. It's why 8000m is know as the death zone... PSSS- Your blood won't boil with rapid decompression at altitude,, it "bubbles" as the Nitrogen & C02 turns to gas ; ) Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  22. Glad your Ok an great job sorting it all out! I've only got 275+ jumps, 150+ with camera, and just been ok'd for shooting tandems at our small DZ by our S&TA. Lots of info from this site has kept me heads up and I take a "very boring approach" also to keeps us all safe. I was recently thinking of adding some small wings for the tandems, but decided against it for now. I jump a Falcon 210 and I'm ~190lbs out the door. I can fly up an down without much problem relative to the tanedms without the wings and figured it was one less worry for the time being... I'm inspired when I see your professionals work, but realistically I gotta me. Safe Jumps Boys! Billy Natural Born FlyerZ.com
  23. Damn,, So I got my DVD burner, Sony DRU 500AX,, I would like to back up captured video to DVD, so I can return the original tapes and clean up the hard drive,, all the programs I have burn these files only to CD...
