  1. 2 words: Garage Band. But I guess in order to understand those words, you must first use this word: Macintosh OSX It's really a pretty cool program, and you can make just about anything. If you are even a mildly skilled musician, you double your quality. mh
  2. you might want to see if your potential "store" is pictured here and decide whether they can give you the best customer service or not... http://www.panix.com/~donwiss/pictures/BrooklynStores/
  3. Mick; maybe you will respond on this forum since you won't on yours: http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=7&topic_id=19956&mesg_id=19956&page= Site naming is one thing--I agree that those posts should be edited or deleted if editing is not possible-- But Read the thread on your site. You've been asking for feedback--people are giving it to you. I'd start listening if I valued their traffic... mh
  4. Hmmm. 3 euros. I wonder if the people who made those videos is actually going to see any of that money? mh
  5. Why would you need proof? Here's a scenario: John Doe and you go out to your local 240' E, slightly underhung, with a "no-outs" landing area. You are both jumping identical gear, BASE specific everything, same wingloadings etc., except your packjob has been in the container for 9 mos. John Doe's has a 1-day-old repack. Imagine yourself all geared up and standing on the edge, the slight breeze blowing right through you, your balls hiding behind your lungs...somewhere around 3-4 seconds to impact. Your hand-held, 46"PC is clear and ready to go. You look over at J.D. and he says: "Man this is pretty low. I'm glad I repacked my rig last night! ...321-CYA!" John Doe jumps and has a crack-on opening, a long eight second canopy ride, enabling him to set up for and execute his landing perfectly. You think about your single canopy, neatly folded in your container for the last 3/4 year, possibly being tossed around, compressed, or otherwise jostled about. How comfortable are you feeling now? No reserve, no time to deal with hesitation or malfunction. It has to be perfect. Me? I'd walk down and live to jump another day. What you do is pretty much your business, so jump away-- I hope it's worth it. mh
  6. they say a tape can be re-used 10+ times. I find that re-using a sony tape in a sony Camera will produce digi dropout, which increases the more times the tape is re-used. This happens LESS when the tape is striped, or recorded over with just black. If you've ever tried to capture footage for NLE that has digital dropout on it, you'll see why it's easier to just throw a new $3.50 MiniDV tape in and archive the used one. mh
  7. oh gawd! [cough]TROLL[cough]
  8. So, if I'm hearing correctly, it sounds like the PC330: -has a great picture and decent still capabilities -has the LANC port on the right side of the camera, making it difficult to work w/ cameye on side mountz -has a different style --->RCA cable that is not as easy to use as the Sony 2 to 1 cable -comes with a smaller (Mseries) battery -Has a different (but functional) power switch Well, I still have a couple of questions: -Does the tape load from the side, or the bottom? (I'm assuming the bottom since LANC in on right) -I am a die-hard fan of the roll cage. Has anyone looked into using this camera with a PC 100 roll cage (that seems to be the closest size)? -The camera specs have the camera weighing in pretty light--I'm assuming that it's body is primarily plastic where it used to be metal? -How about digital transfer quality? I probably WON'T be using this camera to shoot any tandem vids--I have a workhorse for that. I want a sidemount to dedicate to BASE, and higher quality footage, with out going huge into the ultra 3CCD. At $1200, it seems like a decent deal, but. . . Any and all answers will be appreciated. Thanks! mh
  9. I'm getting ready to throw down for one, and wanted to get some opinions from the real world users. What problems does it have w/ skydiving applications? Video transfer ok? resolution OK? How are you mounting it? thanks! mh

And these aren't the droids you're looking for.

Steer way clear of it. Seriously.
  12. Be careful with those cliffs in the desert states, Tree--I've heard grumblings that they bring you bad luck... mh
  13. It hink the BASE accuracy portion should invlolve a go n' throw from a short cliff and a huge talus, with windblades set up in a course down the talus. You get points for blades, and then more points for a DC on the tuffett. There might also want to be a maximum wing loading of 1:1 on the BASE distance portion. mh
  14. In addition to K's post, I'd add the aount of slider up v. slider dn/off jumps is a factor for me... mh
  15. That's just plain wrong. 500 jumps on a BASE canopy relegates it to the skydiving world--no matter where it has been jumped. Yes, the desert is harder on a canopy, but only to a point. A well looked after canopy in Moab will last just as long as the same canopy in MN or wherever else.
  16. Here's my catch-all answer to this and other silly questions like it: WHO CARES? go make a jump. mh
  17. Oh great. Not this again...
  18. If you're going to be shooting Tandem/Aff video, it's not about which lens you use per se, but the question you want to be asking is Which lens is compatible/comparable to my still camera lens? Or which still/video lenses work well together? That being said, I use a Hama .45 video lens with a 24mm (non-digi) SLR lens. They match each other pretty closely.
  19. Thanks for everyone's suggestions! And Murray's--thx for the props to the machine!
  20. Hey mac users; What have you found to be the best way to archive your captured DV clips/projects? I've been trying to compress longer clips with Stuffit in order to archive as data on a DVD, but it won't compress them properly. Any suggestions? [BTW: Dual G4 1.42Gb, 120Gb IBM HD (int.), 160Gb Maxtor HD (int.), (1) 120Gb LaCie D2 FW400 (ext.), (1) 160Gb LaCie D2 160Gb (ext.), +superdrive, OSX 10.2.8] ThanX! mh
  21. the bottom line is that as more people get into BASE, the larger number of fatalities/injuries/arrests there will be, thereby marginalizing a "fringe" sport that much more. That said, I wholeheartedly welcome anyone new in the sport, PROVIDED they are willing to pay their dues beforehand--getting the proper type/amount of training, having the proper amount of experience, etc (see Steve's post above). It pains me to see more and more people asking "How many jumps do I need to begin BASE training?" It's one thing to be excited about starting something like BASE. It's quite another to actually do it, and do it safely. IMHO, THIS QUESTION SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BE ASKED! You should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have the skydiving experience necessary to begin BASE. THIS IS THE PART PEOPLE DON'T SEEM TO GET: I've seen it recommended that people get 200 skydives before they begin their BASE training. Firstly, What is it about "MINIMUM" that people don't get? Straight Up: the more time you have under a parachute, the safer BASE jumper you will be. Why would someone want to start BASE with the minimum amount of experience? Along the same lines, your skydives can/should function as BASE training. /rant
  22. I heard a rumor that C2 is due out toward the end of 2004.
  23. So there aren't any pussies allowed at Bridge Day anymore? Count me out then. mh
