'nuff said. You can't trust him as far as you can throw him. NPS rangers are criminals. NPS and parachutes do not mix. On the other hand, maybe he actually 'liberated' this canopy from someone making an "aerial delivery".

get out $400. Tell him you want to trade for the canopy. Get the canopy back. Beat his ass, twice, and then take your money back. Plain and simple. OR you could just report it and let Karma handle it.

Looking Before Turning / Canopy Pattern
motherhucker replied to jumpgod's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
the only thing that "creates fixation" is the individual pilot. We're all responsible for ourselves out there--there are rules to help avoid incidents, but ultimately we/you/they are responsible for recognizing other traffic in the pattern and placing yourself in an appropriate slot in the landing pattern--then land safely. I'm sure you've heard "keep your head on a swivel under canopy"-- "I Didn't see the other guy" shouldn't be an acceptable excuse for incidents under canopies. -
I THINK WE SHOULD ALL MAN UP AND FREEFALL THE FUCKING THING. What a bunch of pussies we are.

let's say the sl is a loop of break cord larksheaded around a horizontal member. If you were to take another piece of break cord that was say 2 or 3 times as long as the larkshead, and tie one end off to the bridle below the rapide link, and the other end of it to the top of the larkshead knot, then in theory the s/l loop would break as normal, and then when the other piece came under tension, it would pull the larkshead knot clean off the object. Since this piece is also break cord, if for any reason the larkshead decides to stay attached to the object, the second piece of 80lb (or maybe even less) break cord will perform as designed and break. I'm not making sense, am I?

Pressure to give up skydiving ?!
motherhucker replied to linuxguy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
skydiving is'nt for everyone. If you're not sure about it, maybe you shouldn't be doing it. Be true to your feelings--you're the only one who ultimately knows what you should do. -
heading to TF this w/e (thurs/fri)--FROM BOISE--anyone going to be headed that way that would be interested in sharing a rental car or a spot in their ride from the airport? please let me know. thx

Here here. I think the "D" lic. is a crock of shit. Or, more accurately, the title "master skydiver" is a crock of shit. I have seen countless "Master" skydivers who couldn't land their canopies in the same county as the LZ if they tried, and equal amounts of USPA "Masters" that I wouldn't feel safe with in the same 10 square miles of airspace. Perhaps they should abandon the title "Master," and call it what it is: "Fledgling." Calling yourself a Master skydiver is akin to calling yourself a skygod. It does nothing but instill false confidence in jumpers that should really be realizing how inexperienced they are, not the other way around. 200 jumps is nothing. Heck--2000 jumps is really nothing. When one finally recognizes that they are a forever student, then they become open to continual learning and constant progression and improvement.

I prefer to carry government issue cyanide tabs. If I'm sitting injured at the bottom of an object and the enemy finds me, I want to make sure I don't give up the location of my secret hideout or any of the pass codes to the giant death laser supercomputer. Besides--do you really think taking Vics or percs or Morophine will help keep you awake? Think again. I think you're better off not doing solos at all. I don't do true solos anymore for that reason. That's what ground crew/jumping buddies are there for. If you still insist on jumping entirely alone, be prepared to suck it up and sit badly broken for a long period of time hoping someone finds you. Look for the story of a jumper who had a canopy collapse, sending him into the talus, badly injuring him. He sat out there for 3 days before his friends found him on a fluke. A truly grim scenario.

Has anyone done any price comparisons for a PD150? Where should I look for a fair deal? Any other recommendations for a quality prosumer Mini DV camcorder? Thanks!

I don't understand the question...a BASE rig IS the regular rig...
-
One of the things I like about BASE...it's not skydiving. Therefore, we don't need to follow the silly traditions they do in that *other* sport... As BASE jumpers we buy beer because we feel like drinking it. Congrats on yer object. Keep 'em comin'.

How cheap? I got US$700 for roundtrip flights to both Moscow (you going?) and Oslo this summer. naw...skipping moscow, but might try to see northern Norway later this season...I'm working on some cool projects around the US... have fun.

Superior optics on wide lens...which one?

If you have the time, you're better off flying to oslo and taking a train to Stav. Or fly to Copenhagen and ferry or train over. The I've seen flights from Gatwick or Stanstead as low as ~35 USD. Now for the real question--where are the cheap flights from the US?

Oh yeah? Who the hell do you think you are you zen-postin' peacenick! how about you come up to my neck o' the woods and say that to my FACE! [oh, sorry, I had the overwhelming urge]. PS: even better...meet me at the above listed span 6/19-23 and we'll deal with this like real men.

Try calling Clay at Bay Area Skydiving. He's done a couple of these conversions on Pentax cameras in the Past. I'm sure he can figure it out. This number's from memory, but I believe it's 935.634.7575. Check DZ.com "dropzones" section FFI.

I could give a rat's ass about opening shock sensation. Any unpacked jump has significantly lees opening "shock" than even most snively skydiving openings, let alone BASE openings. I sometimes prefer to use a slider (on McOvers/McUnders) because even in slight breezes an unpacked, slider off canopy dangling from the side of an object can be sometimes difficult to manage. I find that a slider helps me to put the canopy where I want it easier since thre is less to catch wind. It also seems to enable me to "swing" the canopy back and forth more easily, as i like to jump whilst my canopy is on the backswing [McOvers]. I don't use a tailgate on any Mc Anythings, and I think those other things are reTARDed (More power to ya, S.)

there is no textbook way to hit a cliff. Don't give up until you're dead. Fly your canopy until it can't fly no mo. And we all need more time under canopy please don't hit the wall.

the answers to your questions are yes, yes, yes, and just for good measure, yes. check thebasepoint.com FFI.
