see if you can line up a BASE mentor in the US who will take you through your skydiving prep as well...This is the fastest way to making you a safe BASE jumper. Skip the wingsuits though...focus on the essential skills...once you have become a master of the basics, get a w/s and head back to the plane for awhile. mh

I'm an AVID user of Final Cut Pro. Does that count? mh

[this for FCP4, but should cross over to almost any version] drop clip on timeline and highlight it OR drag it into the viewer. then, go to: effects>>video filters>>image control>>desaturate done. If you want to control the levels after that, dbl click clip, go to the viewer tab marked "filters," and go from there. The user's manual is helpful as well. You can find it for free on the web in .pdf form. mh

Would you like to send your complaints to Billy Gates?

NOW yer talkin!!! Although...[preface to statement--I'm no Windows guru] If you're getting a MICROSOFT error when Premiere crashes, it sounds more like an OS issue to me, rather that a Premiere issue... But I don't know shite. mh -

Although I do believe that Bill Gates is the antichrist, What does he have to do with your problems in Adobe Premiere? mh -
absolutely. But are you sure they will let you jump? I heard you're a safety liability... mh

Hey guys I'm confused...you WILL have the video for sale at the Go Fast Games or Bridge Day? I might actually make it to the RG this year... mh

Charge for aerial photos of a property?

Don't kid yourself. What she's talking about is not comparable to a Terra Server type sevice. mh -
Everyone makes mistakes. It's those that don't learn from them whose credibility I doubt. I always hear people saying things like "you have to have huge balls to BASE jump!" You don't. The people who jump with their big balls are completely and totally un-impressive to me, and if we're lucky, they won't tarnish the sport when they go in. I have the most respect for people who jump with their brains--knowing what's at stake and enough about this sport and the many factors that go into a making a safe jump to walk away when it's not right. There are times though when the sport calls for the use of both brains and balls at the same time--that's when BASE gets REALLY fun!! be careful out there!! see Dick jump. see Dick hit the wall. See Dick die. don't be a Dick. mh

WARNING! Pretty sure these are guidelines not rules. Count rungs, shoot with a rangefinder, etc. before you trust the picture! mh

dude-- you're a homo. get over it and go make a jump.

Us looking out for ourselves is not regulation--If it is, then I'm wrong. What I mean is, I vote for the ATL crew's type of regulation [read: JV]. mh

They suck. They are mostly expired and are sold from PG as an "as is, use at own risk" item. My understanding is that they were made in the late fifties or sixties and half of them are duds. mh

Oh Brother! Let's give the USPA a call and see if they'll take the job of regulating BASE jumping on... Regaulation is not the answer... mh

I either need a bracket for hot smoke canisters or need to find some high density "cold smoke" canisters. Any recommendations for one of these mounts would be appreciated. thx. mh

Fun Things to Do This Weekend: 1. Get on Otter first, pretending I'm doing a high pull; Follow MH and his tandem, (but stay out of his sight); Dock on his legs. If you decide to try--I'd recommend wearing your full-face and any other battle gear you might have, or it could be the *last* fun thing you do...
-
[assuming you meant DISCREET] That's never really been a concern to most skydive clothing companies customers--A skydiver who's discreet? Get outta town. Most Skydivers have a hard time not letting every whuffo within a hundred friggin' miles know about their weekend activities. mh

This subject is a huge pet peeve of mine. My personal rule is that if I can personally vouch for this person's flying ability, and the ability to stay clear of the drouge and out of my way, and generally follow directions, then it's OK by me. I give people 2 options (assuming only one person lurking): 1) track away at 6k and dump between 2500-2000' 2) stay in my line of sight (generally behind the tandem) through the opening, and then track over me and dump when they're clear. I have had a couple of situations where experienced people have come out with us and taken me out, taken the tandem out, or just generally fucked the jump up because they think it's a casual, fun skydive. It's not! Jumping with tandems is serious, and the consequences of doing it wrong could have serious consequences for you, the instructor and their student, for the Camera person, the DZ, and the sport in general. Anyone who ever comes out with me I make them do a quick dirt dive before the jump, even if they lurk me regularly. It's a creepy feeling knowing that there is another person in the air with you and not being able to look to see where they are. mh

No pun intended, but you're dead wrong. Canopy time is about learning how to use good judgement to keep yourself unbroken. HP canopy time does this too. That said, you also need to practice skydiving a BASE canopy or something similar (200sf+ F-111 7 cell) You have a MUCH higher chance of hurting yourself on your first BASE jump than on your 100th BASE jump. Not if you're 16 yrs old and don't have much driving experience to back that up...think baby steps. I get it. this is a troll right? If not, I think your ideas about currency and competency under a parachute need to be re-examined. If you want to be more badass, please go tarnish a sport that's not already under the microscope of scrutiny like BASE is. When will people get it? BASE is not about being badass. If that's why you're doing it it's for the wrong reasons. Try to remember these two things: 1. This ain't skydiving., and 2. Surviving it once, or even ten times, isn't a sign of competency, but rather a stroke of luck. $0.02 mh

My 2 cents may appear somewhere above my post already, but I'm too lazy to read through all of it so... Low jump numbers+uncurrency=much higher probability for injury/death. IMO, It doesn't matter that it's a bridge. It doesn't matter that it's 850+ ft high. BASE jumping happens from the second your feet leave an object to the second you hit the ground...NOT only until your canopy opens. Look through BD archives--PLENTY of people have been injured/killed at NRGB. Any dumbshit can huck themselves off of something--but it takes a bit more skill to land yourself where you want, uninjured, among obstacles. In short, don't take ANY BASE jump lightly--make SURE you have enough experience under canopy to deal with the shit that can go wrong. IMHO, from your description, right now you DO NOT. But that's just me. BTW, 100 jumps may be more than 1, but don't kid yourself--100 jumps is not SEMI-low jump #'s--it is LOW jump #'s. Ask yourself WHY you want to make a BASE jump and then quit? Sounds like a bragging right thing to me...And if it is, then why not wait a year to be current and build up some canopy time? Do with this what you will--it's probably mostly bullshite anyhow. mh

MID JULY: I'll be in the valley and need to find the MOST ECONOMICAL way/place to stay there for about a week. Anyone knowledgable about places to crash with a locking door for my gear please PM me. Better yet: Anyone have any floor space in the LB area I could pull a sleeping bag on to for a few days? thanks! mh

I dont. once you've seen a tailgate hangup, open canopy jumps w/ tailgate kind of pucker me up. mh edit: I like masking tape for this purpose though.
