1. 1. I don't care if you've lived three lifetimes in the area--MY definition of "locals" is the people that have a lot of time invested in a lot of objects here. 2. You have NEVER approached me about BASE...EVER. If you want to call me a dick for not talking to you, man up and do it to my face. 3. One of my "leaders" told you to jump during the day and you did? I don't have a leader--where the fuck do you think we are? I'm not the one who followed his shitty advice to jump a tower in the middle of the day now, am I? Who's the follower again? 4. Don't confuse the actions of my friends with my actions. I would never have advised jumping any local tower during daylight. I have NEVER done a daylight tower jump on local towers. 5. If you want to ask me questions, ASK! Do you expect me to pop over and start blathering site info to you? I HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN YOU JUMP. 6. Props to you guys for trying to catch whoever was fucking up the wire. And you're right--I didn't go out there one single time over the winter. Good on ya. 7. While I appreciate your keeping track of who I help get into the sport and who I don't, I have good reasons for helping the people I do. Those who I have helped mentor have come to me and asked me. They earned my respect for wanting to do it right. I don't want to help teach someone who I think is going to go in. Please remember: mentoring BASE jumpers is not a job. It's not an obligation. It's a FAVOR. 8.Did I attack you or any of your friends? I think not. Re-read my previous posts. I named no-one. I attacked no-one. Get the facts straight. 9. I am not really interested in a debate either, but I welcome you to proselytize about how I've continually "jeopardized local objects." Please astound me. And as far as you being "far more stealthy and concerned about not being seen," Please. Are you saying you've invested more into the local BASE sites than I have? Think again dude. 10. Rauk was right about one thing in particular--THIS SUCKS. We no longer have access to the only 2k stick around for hundreds of miles. In the immportal words of Aretha: R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me mh
2. well, I guess all that doesn't matter much now. Do everyone else (and yourself) a favor and don't do anymore "inappropriate" jumps at any of our other local objects. A lot of people have done a lot of work to make these objects jumpable--so get in touch with locals. My guess is that you haven't jumped any other local objects...so call someone who knows and see if you can't get them to show you how to do it right. A lot of people are pretty pissed off right now--I'd consider this before going out and jumping something else in the middle of the day. If you have to jump during the day, go to Moab or Potato Bridge. mh
3. good point. I didn't answer the actual question before--Would I...? NO. I won't ever give up the rights to my footage without good reason or good pay. (maybe occasionally for charity--but I can't see how I'd ave to give up RIGHTS for charity) mh
4. I don't think the standard employment contract (at a dz anyhow) can touch your exclusive rights to the footage--eg: if you sell some footage of a tandem you shot to Fox Sports, the DZ can't come after you (or Fox Sports) for $$. mh
5. I'd like to thank the anonymous jumpers in my area that helped create this sound at a local 2k stick. show some respect!!! mh edited by request of original poster ~TA

#33 Sebastian Dectot, August 16, 1996 Cliff Jump Impact Lysbotn, Norway Sebastian over delayed in a back to earth position while filming other jumpers. #36 Stina-Ulla Ostberg, July 29, 1997 Cliff Jump Lysbotn, Norway Impact This jump began with an unstable launch and it took the jumper 12 seconds to recover stability and deploy her main pilot chute. However, impact occurred at 12.7 seconds. It is reported this jumper is offered instruction prior to the jump and that she refused it. #37 Valentino Ventori, August 5, 2000Ê Age: 30 Cliff Jump Lysbotn, Norway Impact This jumper launched unstable and remained so all the way to impact. It is reported this jumper is offered instruction prior to the jump and that he refused it. This fatality and number 36 (Ostberg) are eerily similar down to the same impact point. #39 Terry Forrestal, 1999Ê Age: 52 Cliff Jump Lysbotn, Norway Cliff Strike and Impact This is Terry's 8th BASE jump. A videotape shows him having trouble with directional control and tracking. He deploys with a 180 whereupon he hits the wall very hard. Terry comes to rest on a narrow ledge and later probably sees a rescue helicopter approach and then turn back because ofÊ fog developing in the immediate area. The full extent of Terry's injuries are unknown at this time but speculation suggests both his legs are broken. At this point, but unknown to Terry, a foot launched rescue effort is advancing on his position. When they arrived, 10 hours later, Terry is gone from the ledge. No one knows if Terry tried to self rescue himself by jumping from the ledge using his reserve canopy (this is done by another jumper several years earlier) or if sometime during the night he simply fell. Friends say he probably thought rescue was not in the immediate future. And the 52 year old former member of England's SAS is the type to take matters into his own hands. Terry is a movie actor and stuntman. Some of the movies Terry worked on are Moonraker, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Titanic where he played the doomed ship's Chief Engineer. #45 Kirill Goretov, August, 15 1999 Age 30 Cliff Jump Lysbotn, Norway Cliff Strike It's reported this jumper made no control inputs after canopy deployment and hit the wall coming to rest on a ledge. He appeares to have died from severe head injuries in the initial impact with the wall. He is not wearing a helmet. #62 Lori Barr, July 23, 2002Ê Cliff Jump Norway Wall Strike (in freefall) Lori launched and lost stability on her first cliff jump. With five previous Perrine bridge jumps and the required amount of skydives Lori is on an organized BASE expedition to Norway. The trip included a site specific BASE jumping course taught by very competent instructors. However, Lori hit the cliff wall in freefall at about 11 seconds. What makes this fatality a little more chilling is the fact Lori did everything right as far as following the current advise on how to get into BASE jumping. NUFF SAID??? mh
7. No. I would not sue. When you jump out of an airplane of your own accord, you are accepting certain inherent risks, some of which are serious injury or death. It doesn't matter where the warning label is (or isn't) on the rig.
8. you're a sick bastard Tom. I've seen some wicked body modifications in the past--but this takes the cake. Did it take awhile to heal? mh
9. my bad--I guess this http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1031089;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread confused me.
10. Instead of selling the lens you have, Buy a step ring which will adapt the threads on the lens you have to the sixe of your new camera. like this one: http://www.imagemrio.com.br/descricao.asp?CodProd=SUR3037 mh
11. Why don't you just buy a step ring for 10USD instead?
12. Does anyone know if this unit (I'm looking at the 550) absolutely needs to be mounted to the hotshoe, or is there an extension (or better yet, a wireless transmitter b/t the camera and the flash? Thanks! huck
13. PM me your address. I have about 50 of them in varying lengths. Just going through a helmet? mh
14. everyone looks cool in their gear when they're using it right. mh
15. IMHO, it is a packer's RESPONSIBILITY to shorten your closing loop if it needs shortening. Would you rather they just go pack it up with a loose pin? Or maybe wait for you to come pick up your rig before they ask you what to do with it. A packer, if they're not already a rigger, is supposed to be under the direct supervision of one. You should thank your packer for being concerned with your safety and give him/her a big fat tip and a bottle o' beer. mh
16. Highest I've landed was A stiletto 120 loaded 1.6:1 at 11,200msl. I did a 90-180 FR turn to final. It was fast, but way doable. FWIW, I've landed bigger read: non-HP canopies at altitudes up to 13,500 msl. That is getting into really, really thin air for any canopy IMHO. mh
17. So you started jumping camera early. At least take some pics of your camera helmet setup and post them here. You might benefit from some of the comments people have for you on your helmet. Maybe post some of your video, too. jumping camera is fun, as long as you don't get in over your head. There are a lot of people who post here who really know what the fuck they're talking about. a piece of FRIENDLY advice: Lose the "know it all" attitude. The sooner you do, the sooner you can be humble. the sooner you do that, the sooner you will be a great skydiver/cameraperson. Just accept that you have a lot to learn, even if you know more than everybody else already [BTW--you don't]. mh
18. No. Read the Itunes terms of use. The song is still copyrighted and if you don't own it, you're out of luck.
19. I usually don't use a visual altimeter on camera jumps. I feel that it gets in the way of things like swoop cords and some gloves in the winter. That is my choice--read: personal preference. I feel comfortable knowing where I am in the sky with relation to the ground...you don't. No big deal. I haven't done a *ton* of hybrid dives, but I could certainly see not wanting a wrist mount on a hand that would be on someone's chest strap, for instance...(not that Eli was under the flat flyers) .0o2 mh
20. Mid June I'm headed to Europe. I'll finish my trip in CH, so I want to leave from Zurich at the end of the trip, therefore, found some decently priced RT tix from USA to Zurich, but still have to get to Stav as cheap as possible. Anyone in the know have any suggestions? I'm not above trains or ferries, but I'm on a schedule as well as a budget--hitching is out of the question. Any ideas or suggestions? thanks! mh
21. Is this camera a side loader or a bottom loader?
22. Man I'm such a pussy wearing a BASE rig... mh
