two things: 1- targetted taxes are also idiotic - it just means that certain projects don't have to be prioritized - and it rationalizes special taxes on specific market items - like fuel (for roads) or cigarettes (for medical). I know it 'feels' good, and it fools people into a 'that makes sense' thing or even a "hey, I like it because I don't pay as much as the next guy" thinking. But it's just an act to rationalize another flavor of tax/fee/etc I'd prefer a limited common tax pool - then prioritize all the expenses - fund top to bottom and if you run out of money before hitting the bottom, then good - those projects shouldn't be funded. Force government to prioritize and budget. 2- as for non taxed fuel for farmers being less expensive - I didn't say it was cheaper (short term thinking) for the farmer, I said it drives the wrong economic and social behavior. Of course the farmer loves his special, just for him, subsidy action. Doesn't everybody? We all love our mortgage interest deduction as individuals. But society hates that housing prices are higher, and people are house poor, etc etc etc. As parent, I love education subsidies, but throwing money at everyone jsut drives the cost of education up for everyone - then we rationalize even more 'help', then the price goes up, then we rationalize more help......ad nauseum. does anyone recall the simple supply/demand curve? anyone? ... short version - government trying to buy votes claims they are making it easier on the farmer with the subsidy. net result - they buy votes, drive the cost of him doing business up, make it more difficult for him to do business and live his life, complicate his choices unnecessarily. Farmer thinks - "great, free money" but nothing is free. dumb farmer. gov claims victory for the sad needy farmer subsidies are not 'helping' the farmer screw subsidies, short term thinking, long term fail - both economically, and socially ... I disagree that corporate taxes should be eliminated. Corporations take profits, it's not a zero-sum game. Also, corporations benefit from the common services the government provides, so they should help pay for them. After all, corporations are people, too. when the profits are paid out, then the recipients pay taxes ... true, you could BUY a lot of votes by where you claim you want to set that limit - Candidate A wants it at this $$ amount, Candidate B wants it at that amount +a small amount eventually that $$ amount will equate to approximately 50% of the population and then they will want subsidies and the others will will be the filthy rich selfish whiners wouldn't it be smarter to just tax all the dollars - the base poverty wage will increase until people can feed their families including paying the tax (if only the gov would stop fiddling with it and trying to fix it before it naturally settles into the right amount) Instead of a base income, I'd rather see no tax on food and clothing - you can only buy so much and it's less easily and apparently manipulated for political points ... sure, he'd hate to lose his little subsidy the processing groups would hate to lose the business of processing two grades of fuel the politicians would hate to lose the opportunity to crow about "helping the poor farmers" the dye company would hate to lose the pointless sales of the red dye ...........(government creates idiotic inefficiencies) too bad, so sad get rid of penalties, get rid of subsidies, treat/tax everyone the same ... another GREAT example of interference - define a fuel based solely on the tax structure (ie. penalty/subsidy equivalent) - so the farmer would now have to arrange for TWO gas tanks on the farm to be filled, else he'd have to drive into town to fill the family car....love it we had a big fuel tank on our farm - it held "fuel", we filled the tractors and the truck and car from it ... After spending over $7000 is it unreasonable to ask for a free reserve pack?

all that and more - true skydiving is a small community regardless with a huge pile of ego driven loudly spoken individuals, vendors need to be wary of taking advantage for a short term gain, no matter how gullible that one newbie gets. Bad press can be huge no matter if not deserved - and 'most' of the time it's not. Courtesy goes a long way in any business. ... where I'm from it's soccer moms - I'm not going to try and guess "why" they drive that way - I don't read minds - my wife is always trying to tell me 'why' that person just cut that other guy off or pull asshole shit - I'm constantly amazed at that. that's a tough one. it's pretty much "buyer beware", but then it occurs is such a tight knit community that the short term sale at full 'retail' will be a net loss in terms of good will. What a great intro into skydiving "Hey, I just spent $7k on a new rig" - then, every single other skydiver tells him "You're a sucker, I could have gotten the same rig custom and assembled for $5k easy". I guess people here would just smile and say "shucks, I guess I got taken fair and square?" The fact that it's true, (shop around, and ask your dealers and local instructors and DZs if they have any 'friends' that are reps) doesn't mean that dealer won't EVER get the new jumper's business again. trust is difficult. (OP asked a fair question, the answer of 'no' is a fair response, the extended answer and accusations are not fair and crappy customer service - I hope dealers see this post and educate their reps....) ... and then the left will tax the strawberries excessively to 'show those darn one percenters whatfor' (the right won't fight hard, those in power love the taxes just as much) thus driving out strawberries from the market for all but the rich then the Adkinites will decry strawberries as too high in simple sugars and too low in fiber all hell will break loose, cats and dogs living together ... yes yes, and the left will cry that's it's a victory to have eliminated 'slave' labor from the US and another horrible profit making industry - by pushing (out of sight and under the rug - if you can't see it, then they win) to foreign farms using fertilizers and contaminants to pollute the groundwater, and unregulated cleanliness methods for gathering and shipping the final product. ... No. They do not. Nor should they because there is no inherent interest by the FAA with regard to sex offenders and the issuance of airmen medical certificates. Flying impaired by drugs or alcohol is an obvious problem. Flying with a desire to have sex is generally not. except in political arenas, any excuse, rational or not can be leveraged to get votes on an emotional subject - we see the left and right do it all the time. Therefore, if we want to take a stance that this is a problem with the criminal's "wiring", then it can easily be put into the medical check off. Frankly, if one wants to single out this particular crime, the FAA medical is about the most logical place to insert it. right or wrong. I have an issue with continuously penalizing someone 'after' they served their time. Though in this case, I also have a visceral reaction to anyone that commits a 'true' sex crime. that's my conflict. If this is a true threat, and people feel that strongly about it, then the flaw is in the penalty phase - the penalty should be increased, rather than creating 'after the fact' unlawful punishments. If society truly thinks they are a real offender for repeat, then we should not be letting them out. (unless we can argue this is a medical issue). The argument shouldn't be creating a bias in the business world, people with Promise's position should be going after legislation to keep them locked up - i.e., a real legal solution. In the meantime, the only real solution is to put the responsibility on the DZO's - but on a voluntary basis. There is no basis for FAA or USPA or any legislature to force them to do additional checks - let them 'choose' to check - and then advertise the heck out it that they do it. And customers can ask or urge as in any other endeavor when it's not apparent. If enough customers demand this reassurance, then DZOs will do it as a good business practice - no forcing the issue would be needed ... Agreed. I think people too easily look past the flaws in laws with which they largely agree. "easily look past" hell, they take them, coat them in gold, put them on pedestals and make excuse after excuse for them - anything for the "Cause dejour" I'm particularly fond of people that want the judicial to re-write laws for the cause dejour. Supreme Court limits president's recess appointment power
rehmwa replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
The Supreme Court can't create any new limits. It merely points out when the existing limits are exceeded under existing law. Makes sure that the limits under law are clarified. In other words - the Supreme Court can't change the law, but it certainly can make it very clear when the existing law is being abused beyond the intent ... I have no issue with the business doing it. I think it's neat. With proof. the business better make absolutely sure, though, or they are in for some crazy court cases.... I do have issue with judges making it part of the penalty phase. I don't see how we can have equal punishment for equal crimes with this unless it's made a universal policy. ... Well, about that time, he did decide to have a kid and bring it to to LZ. Sounds like skydivers, they bitch about kids at the DZ and complain and complain. Then when they have their own, they do a complete 180 and bring them and their damn dogs and don't watch them and start getting worried about the atmosphere. Sounds like this particular god is as self centered as typical yuppie skydivers. Whatever his current status, that's the center of the universe.
