And I've been distressed by those members also that they don't understand what 'justice' is. But the comment was how do you know "responders are representative of the entire majority" of those supportive of DP You and Amazon reply "but,....but.....I have posts from these 3 guys......" I can argue that everyone that is against the DP is clearly represented by the self hating liberal that will let their children die rather than defend them from a punk punching them to death on a freak out. That would also be an unfair misrepresentation. You've read my posts, do I advocate ANY level of vengeance or emotion be factored in the execution of predators? Why do you insist on lumping me and people like me in with the "I want them to feel pain" crowd? again - you're both being lazy and trying to elicit the emotional reaction - which is exactly what we want to avoid. I think better of you both. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

This is my favorite thing about Speaker's Corner: "It's more complicated than you silly people think, so in the interest of better and fuller understanding, stop asking questions and having discussion." ... certainty isn't the issue for them. mischaracterization of a group's motiviation is easy. It's also intellectually lazy and a sad tactic. too bad it's used so often by people that really are smarter than that in real life they clearly hate puppies and minorities, else they'd do better ... actually, what I find very odd - Prez's writers are giving him speeches where he is trying to connect by primarily talking about his emotional reaction to emergent issues ("I'm very upset", "I'm angry", etc etc etc). Probably a good tactic considering the generally non-thinking and visceral, short term motivated populace of today. ------> these emotionally focused speeches are scripted and on the teleprompter

Odd thread - did a death penalty thread turn into an abortion argument where posters are arguing over which stage of life is better for the child (or "potentially viable life mass") is more appropriate for abusing the kid? ... So you wanted to hear everyone's opinion as long as they agree with yours? I wonder if you understand the irony of your own comment there...... she's stating her opinion and having the debate - I don't see how you came to that position. Disagreement with an opposing position does NOT EQUAL wanting it squashed into silence. (well, we know the posters that do think that, but they just project that attitude incorrectly on others) I don't know anyone that comes on here looking for 100% validation and support. Some members try to get that by belittling others to get them to quit the site. But it's been notoriously unsuccessful. ... what a shame - But I can see why - I thought the advertised strategy was: 1 - join the EU 2 - be recklessly spendy children 3 - go dangerously in debt 4 - everyone vote for Germany to bail them out hell 10 or twelve countries do this and pretty soon you have a real problem - and no one likes the idea of upsetting Germany for that matter too ... You've seen my politics over the years. (It's more nuanced, but the oversimplified version - you know the one used to hack and strawman - pretty much as follows: ) "We" don't draw the line. The DZO's should draw their lines, be open to the public about it, buyer beware also, and all live with the consequences of their decisions. that said: I don't see a place for sex offenders in very high contact career options. But I also am also conflicted in that we have a social arrangement to put someone back in society after they "serve their time". I think the conflict is that (IMO) the punishments and monitoring are not in line with the nature of the crime or psychology of this type of predator. As it is for many crimes. All I know is that even without convictions, I've seen some really piss poor actions in this 'arena' (typically at boogies) regardless of any past convictions or not and I think it's horrible customer service and terrible in a base way. Skydiving does have a maturity problem. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

If DZO's 'chose' to exclude convicted sex offenders from the position it would be a good choice on their part. The next step would be to then start excluding the just plain creepy ones...... (I think it would help everybody to really appreciate the good ones out there, there are plenty of them) ... Unlikely. This is what the 1% wants. They will privatize the education system, then price it so that only their class can afford it. That will provide them with an uneducated, mailable workforce who can be exploited at will. They almost have it now. and your alternative is doing it using dependency - at least it's self inflicted, but the results are the same so if you are correct, then seems to me, we have two failing philosophies - or at least two cynical outlooks on the two prevailing philosophies ... The 'humane' part of it is do it in such a fashion to be humane as possible to ourselves as a society. Remember, this is about us, NOT the psychopath. clinically, dispassionately, efficiency, dispose of the trash. no fanfare, no emotions (maybe other than a bit of regret for "having" to something distasteful but necessary.) Not "kinder", but painless? sure, that causes the least amount of damage to those watching and those that have to do it. I don't care one bit about the psychopath, he's already history and just a job to finish. ... because it's not about making them feel bad, or 'getting even' or revenge or 'eye for an eye', or 'do unto others' or anything like that. it's about efficiently removing a threat from society so no one else gets damaged by this predator The only even remotely possible reason is to scare off other predators from acting psycopathically (deterrence). And that's wrong too, doing something terrible to one person for the sole purpose of effecting a behavioral mod on a total (and 'hypothetical' stranger or group of strangers) has its own moral problems. "making an example" is the most ludicrous of rationalizations for sentencing guidelines ever (at least in a society that's SUPPOSED to be about the individual) It has NOTHING to do with the criminal - it's about protecting the rest of society. That said, the more posts I see with "why do we need to be humane" and "how would YOU feel if they hurt your family", etc etc etc.....the more I'm coming around to Normiss' and Amazon's (at least Jeanne's basic viewpoint without the over the top stereotype biases) viewpoints - people want revenge and can't see how they are absolutely missing the point that 'justice' doesn't not equal 'revenge' in any way, shape, or form. If people can't grasp that simple concept, how on earth can they dispense justice in a fair and dispassionate way? ... Aliens Exist And Could Be Discovered Within 20 Years

I would equate it more to us and a slug. We don't really postulate much about the intelligence level of the slug since, fuck, it's just a slug. There have been several novels that had the assumptions that advanced races weren't more intelligent, just so dramatically older that they just had a bigger head start in development. They took thousands of years to develop what we will get to in 100's of years. just as likely - the universe isn't just incredibly huge, it's also very old - ALL possible scenarios are out there ... the assumption here is that they haven't already considered it and done the cost/benefit analysis so the government would have to force it on them......for their own good this is nothing but intrusion on a negotiation that both the employer and employee already have the ability to do without the government sticking their noses into it - it's lip service the fact that many think that people don't have the stones to ask for what they think they are worth ... Racism: Democrats are just as racist as any other party

interesting, in essence "yes, they ARE dumber.....but it's our fault" Sounds like something one of these guys would say: Ross Perot Mitt Romney John Kerry Al Franken I suspect the usual suspects would smile, nod and drool if two of them said it, and get outraged and up in arms if the other two said it (well, if Ross Perot said it, everyone would be up in arms) It really is simpler and more accurate to deal with people as individuals rather than as stereotypes of subgroups.... ... I like the thought behind this comment. i.e., The coach needs to be mindful of separation and pull altitude. that said, there is room to follow for those with the awareness and skill..... If my student is pulling higher than me (the plan (4k to 5k)), I usually do observe and follow the track. I still have time (1k) to track and pull on my own (3K) when he dumps. But....If, during this, the student misses his pull time, and he's facing away from me (pretty much guaranteed). I can't pull in front of him (last warning/communication) as he's not looking - I still need to track away and pull at my time - again, follow the plan. My plan is hard deck where I go away vs 'help' or 'watch' regardless of what the student is doing at that hard deck. Above that point, I can do anything I like for the student. There is just not time to go 'get him' and pull for him in most tracking scenarios. The safest move is to get separated and pull as normal. Giving the student room to do his job, per plan. AFF is different, I'll be just as close or closer, and my plan for action (pull for him) has an assigned altitude as well.... note AFF, or coaching, (and any other regular type of jumping)....everybody involved has a planned hard deck for separation, pulling, etc etc etc..... ... I think the 'medical need' is a distraction here. If 'MEDICAL' was the main reason to legalize, then pot would be pharmacized (is that even a word?), and sold in that fashion (with controls, regulation and safety concerns addressed, dosages under control, and taxed). Isn't the vapor form most effective? I wouldn't know. It would be so much simpler a debate, and people's jackets wouldn't stink to high heaven and the idiots wouldn't be using the stuff any more than they already are. Edibles, home grown, smoking it, etc all can go away as these are really just workarounds for those that medically need it (who should have always had a control pharacological supply in the first place), and rationalization for those that just like it for fun use. So all these other arguments is about recreational use. Seems using alcohol as an analogy is the best tactic. Dosage analogy - In that case, there is plenty of laws controlling the 'proof' of liquor. Seems that pot should, at a minimum, have something similar. Analogy of misuse - Idiots that would distill legal 'strength' liquor to get something dangerous will still do it, idiots that would do the same with legal 'strength' pot still will too. But at least society set expectations such that idiots are now responsible for being,....well....idiots, at that point and can't blame others for it. edit: JM "Gosh I hope not...already enough dumbasses blowing up the neighborhood trying to go all "Breaking Bad" with hash oil. " ok, JM said it much more efficiently than I did..... ... The very worst of racist comments I hear come from -self proclaimed- 'hard core' dems. no contest - however anyone that's passionate to the point of caricature is usually screwed up in a lot of ways I don't consider them to be representative of the party though. That would be as stupid as some of the generalizations we see here about both parties. you can't take the worst of a group and pretend the entire group is like them - that's lazy and the worst form of stereotyping. ...
