  1. Agreed - we call that toilet paper.......voting ballots see what I did there? (however, what happens in an election when you have magical voting ballots that wipe off one kind of shit but you get stuck with 4 years of a slightly different dingleberry?) ... 4. How about a huge young man, with posted videos of him beating on other and weaker individuals in a cruel way, who just left the scene of him stealing stuff and being abusive to a shopkeeper, who talked tough and hated the cops, with bystanders who say he attacked the cop in his car. Even then, you can't say yet that the shooting was justified, but likely it was after all the evidence was in and at the worst he certainly provoked his own death? not that any of us are referencing anything of the sort.....just a hypothetical I mean, it's not like an entire social movement would use these guys as a (really crappy) poster child for their cause and then cause a lot of ruckus to push their agenda (which might even have a reasonable basis, but unfortunately this one example is a shit example when much better ones likely exist).....that shit never happens. and, certainly, at least total outsiders would NEVER take (financial/political) advantage of any hypothetical situation where, let's imagine, a stubborn and slightly corrupt gov agency butts heads with stubborn and slightly corrupt private citizens and it gets blown out of proportion and then out of control and is an embarrassment to the whole planet. no one would do that....I'm sure you can't even buy t-shirts on the internet "I survived the occupation of Malheur - 2016" hypothetically I'm waiting see how memes on this are going to be used to hack on trump/obama/hillary/bernie/cruz etc etc etc that should be creative ... 5. Tough choice, which one terrifies me more....... We may all now stuck with looking at our choices and trying to figure out which one will be throttled back by the other two branches most effectively. And, since the judiciary is becoming more and more activist instead of objective - that's a losing point. And, since the legislature won't stand up for themselves and only votes on cosmetic crap. that's a losing point. (I thought the reverse was the intent - that veto power of the execs is the way to keep Congress in check.....) Checks and balances are a great idea - it only breaks down if all the branches lose it..... Sometimes it seems we'd be best off if Exec and Leg both just took a few years sabatical - but that's worse since then Judicial and Military would likely have to fill the void - also terrifying. ... 6. This is funny - the last several posts - EVERYONE is trying to be wry and mock the 'other' side. at the same time with the Ferguson example. It takes a special kind of blinders to think the other side is serious when they are making the exact same comparison you are. ... 7. Just a personal opinion - rights are things we should expect to be able to do/be/have/etc independently. things that anyone should be able to do rights are not things that require taking from others to achieve (the difference between rights, and the entitlements that FDR tried to pawn off as rights) so - the right to seek out and get an abortion? absolutely (just like the right go and contract/negotiate for any product or service from another free person) (this is consistent enough with the court's ruling, whether it falls under privacy, self determination, or whatever) if it crosses the line where it forces someone else to pay for it, or forces/conscripts the doctor to do it for you? not a right the right fails to acknowledge the first point, the left - the 2nd point her choice - her responsibility absolutely. another's personal opinions on it (for or against) are moot. Only hers matter. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

  15. I'm on the other end. You are cleared until proven you aren't. no expiration. No regular or periodic fees, etc to keep your right. If the period is short, then it becomes a de facto intent to buy a firearm every time you renew or reapply, not a validation that you are responsible to exercise your rights as you see fit. You get the permit. It's yours until it's taken away (for cause only). It's up to the system to identify violent felons (not hard, trigger the action when a "guilty" verdict is made). Then go take the card. I don't see a reason for it to expire for no reason other than a couple months have passed. As for caring if the gov knows how many, and what kind, etc of firearms one owns? I think that's obvious. Yes, President Obama, or President Hillary, or President Trump can't take all your guns if he doesn't know how many you have. ... 16. "free" - "paid for by" maybe we just stop using the word 'free' if it shouldn't have a connection to the firearm, but is used for "each transfer" is the tricky part (but I agree with the intent) (If every time someone checked to see if I'm 'legal' then the system puts a tally mark, then gov knows how many guns I might own.....anything remotely looking like a 'registration' is not desired of course if we stay true to the intent of the 2nd) I agree a 'permit to purchase' is a good idea. Administering it in such a way that the individual is licensed to buy (clear proof of non-felon status - proof of training in safety, use, maintenance, storage and transport) - but not actually done such that the government has a list of what I own, or even how many I own - that's the tricky part. I'd like the training to be 'free' - simple high school class. Then the permit just takes the training proof - does a felony check - and the permit is issued. ... 17. I don't think the aggressive posting style has ever been dominated by one side or the other. There have always been assholes of every political stripe. It just seems that lately the asssholes are far outnumbering the non-assholes. New assholes seem to pop up every day. I think some otherwise reasonable posters have been driven to assholism not so much by world events as by the general lowering of the level of discourse here and everywhere else on the net. Why bother typing out a well thought out reply when all you're likely to get in return is third grade name calling? Poopiehead agreed - all except the part where you signed your post - you're not a poopiehead ... 18. yep, those damn 'privileges': freedom and self determination and privacy really sucks 1 - privilege from having your labor stolen from you and given to whoever is in the 'in group' that election cycle 2 - privilege to marry who you like or not and not have the government get in the way in either direction 3 - privilege to own property and not have it confiscated for subjective reasons 4 - privilege to live your life as you wish and make your own way, and to want that for everyone else these all seem to be the opposite of privileges - privilege is not equal to freedom - perhaps you have 'privilege' confused with entitlement, or recipient, or success, or something...... or you are just confusing libertarian with the strawman definitions that the left and the far right have tried to put out in attempts to hijack the term. (I think those that espouse freedom, privacy and self determination need to create a new term actually. They lost the battle to maintain the original meaning of libertarian - perhaps they were too busy working and minding their own business to see what was happening) ... 19. Yep. Growing every day. I'm really not sure why I come here anymore. Comic relief mainly, nothing else, other than some friends still try to be reasonable and kind. however - when nearly everyone on both sides is migrating to Funjumper/Amazon type posting - instead of migrating to Wendy/Lawrocket (who's out lately) type posting - we all (lose/win - depends on your goals here) Is it a microcosm of today's society? or just an indication of fringy social philosophies becoming prevalent on open/anonymous social media? these guys can pat each other on the back and accuse the righties here of moving to hostile posts, but it's been a mainstay of the leftie posters for a long time - if both sides are taking this tack now, it's just an angry bitchfest of less and less value. the overall hostility on both sides lately over the presidential campaigning, I'm assuming, is more a frustration over having such terrible picks for the last handful of elections, with this year culminating in crappy offerings and horrible media coverage that panders to short attention spans and reality TV consumer base. ... 21. It's funny, a true Libertarian is simply fiscally thrifty, and socially non-interventionist. (in other words, the polar opposite of Demopublicans in all things) However, If you claim to be "fiscally thrifty" as Libertarian, liberals will accuse you of being a closeted hard core Republican in all ways (ESPECIALLY in the social crap that libertarians really just try to stay out of). Yet, at the same time, will also claim that Democrats are the "truly" thrifty of the two parties. In other words, being 'fiscally' thrifty to a liberal means two absolutely opposite things: 1 - It's horrible if you aren't a Dem 2 - It's wonderful if you are a Dem Libs are Truly the demographic of "If you aren't with us, you are against us......and the battle is to the death". If I agree with 9 of 10 liberal positions, and only disagree with one, I'll still get labeled a hard core righty - that's a problem. To Reps (for balance) - will pretend to be your brother and then try to brainwash you into supporting their really intrusive social crap (when you find out they also lie about the fiscally thrifty stance they claim). If I agree with 9 of 10 of their positions, they'll try to fool me into thinking I really agree with number 10 while they try to ratchet up the other 9 to some ridiculous extreme version of each. 23. Right - to independently pursue and contract healthcare services with providers on your own of each's own free will - just like the purchase and ownership of any product or service Not a right - force others to pay for your healthcare (i.e., enslave them, violate another's right to self determination of their labor, etc) - privilege, treat, charity, lucky situation, whatever else one might call it the founding fathers' definition of rights is VERY fundamentally different than FDR's twisted versions ... 25. My ideal election? Bernie vs Ron Paul 1 - agree with either of them or not, at least we know they are sincere and not just political tools with PR strategies designed to try and get 51% of whatever idiots vote based on memes and bumper stickers (or pure momentum and laziness) 2 - election would definitely tell us what social/political philosophy the voting public desires 3 - we'd get exactly what we deserve Pretty much all 3 points are exactly the opposite of what we are setting up for in November. ...
