Kennedy and I agree on something Pretty much everybody (here) agrees on this (with a couple stupid exceptions) - funny how universal this is and how impossible for politicians to execute it. ... The statement is clearly "Driving" is one D - you control velocity on a single line only at any instant. Your statement is "Traffic systems" are one D - clearly you need help with language and communications (and use of foot powder) - but thanks for trying Unless you can drive simultaneously on 2 different roads with the same vehicle......... If you wish to drive in a giant parking lot, or boat on a large lake or ocean - then I'll credit you. ... I can gin up examples all day, but each person responds to less income/higher costs in different ways. Their shortfall has to land somewhere - very simple. or they borrow and go into debt. So apparently your theory is that people, in general, are fiscally irresponsible and you think that's just fine. Gov has to spend a LOT less, they also have to take in more too to balance out the books someday. Everybody here is pretty in line with that - even you. 1st item - no one trusts the government to live up to the 'spend less' portion of that contract if they are taking in more. Why should we? Their job is to purchase votes. 2nd item - EVERYBODY has to pay more, and it will hurt (taxes), or the base opens up and we make more off of the rest of the world (growth) and it doesn't hurt. Focusing on taxing specific groups for more income and then asking for more programs is just more of the take in more and spend more attitude that both parties seem to think is a good formula. ... Prices go up, people don't make more money, therefore they buy less stuff. If you can't do that math, I can't help you. Especially when you pretty much acknowledge that you are one of the "rich" that just pass along your increased expenses to your customers - which is the basis of the argument you claim to be disputing. ... A road, even if you discount the unevenness of the surface, is 2 dimensions. The only way driving is one-dimensional is if you live on a line - as a line is defined in geometry. Am I not supposed to take this seriously? seriously, you equate lane changing and little bumps as a serious extra dimensions? or are just billvoning the whole thing by counting curves and turns as a serious 2nd dimension to the line you drive on - how clever, how pathetic to ignore the obvious intent of the comment just to show others how sadly clever you would have been in real life if you had one your dog is ugly too ... I did not say that either, I said it makes no real difference. What I read was that if your costs go up, you'll charge more. And that you don't care because it doesn't matter, everybody's doing it. So, OK, you note it won't hurt YOU, because skydivers are addicts and will continue to patronize. But they will spend more to jump and have less (because they aren't getting raises) - so some other vendor they patronize will take a hit. Your customers don't make more, but you charge more - someone's going to take the loss somewhere as a result. ... selectively cut and paste, forgive me I want to understand your position here The uber rich need to "give back" to the economy....by spending LESS??????? If their lifestyles bother you so much, wouldn't it make more sense that they spent recklessly until they made themselves poor? Then you win by getting to see total strangers ruin their lives . And the rest of us win by all the economic transactions resulting from said downfall. stimulus and class revenge in one pot. Of course the liberal-gasm would REALLY be the government took it all with no exchange and that money just disappears and helps no one, but you can't have it all ... Night jump requirements for D?
rehmwa replied to crotalus01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I see a need for comfort in jumping in the dark - for a "Master" skydiver (i.e. D-License). By that same reasoning, I would agree that some experience in both CrW, and some level of proficiency in an additional orientation to belly to earth (back, sit or headdown - at least some level of hover control, turn and fall rate control demonstrated - and that means the belly to earth proficiency as well) also makes sense by 500 jumps. Night - yes, late jumps you can get into the sunset and dark CrW - absolutely (and more the night jumps IMO) comfort near other canopies including (gasp) touching them is useful a preparing in the event of wraps, etc. And it clearly makes for better canopy pilots all around. (and the temporary exchange/loss of personal hygiene and loss of packing skills is well worth the experience) Multi discipline - absolutely - at least 1 orientation IN ADDITION to belly. A Master needs more experience in this other than flips and barrel rolls - again, IMO. Instructors also, you have to be able to have that range of manuverability that you earn with this. Wingsuits and skyboards - no, those are gimmick specific and fun and valuable, they do not relate to basic skill sets, just specialized. else, the C-License is just fine for anything recreational. ... Satisfaction with your life is a direct result of the choices you make

My point is that it's a combination. Norms for attractiveness to tend to biological cues that set attractiveness (strength, proportionality, etc). You start there, then it's modified by the cultural cues for superior performance. The 2nd affect becomes stronger, as society become more complex, but the first won't go away. Hunter/gatherer/fecundity have have had millenia to program into the DNA, societal/subjective cues change a couple times per generation - they just can't compete except on a more shallow level. You are stating it's 'primarily' societal. I disagree with that. It's not a close race at all for the subconscious. short answer - 1 - sort of agree with you on an individual basis in the most complex social regions - societal cues can dominate or at least be on an equal basis with more primal cues 2 - disagree with you on a mass population basis - in general, we're still animals ... Studies has been done, I've seen a few documentaries on it, it's fascinating - I agree with symmetry, and the term "averageness" is misleading as an overall term, it means individual features that are not disproportional combine to the most effective total. I do disagree on the waist to hip ratio thing. That's been proven. for women. Men - features that indicate being a good defender and strong provider (tall, strong neck, etc) It's just anthropology in action. as for skinny vs fat vs fit - each of the periods of time that these fit in as "attractive" those features implied success. In poor regions, being fat implies success. In rich regions or regions with a very busy work ethic, fit implies successful enough to take the time to be fit, or wealthy enough to hire a trainer, etc. you get the idea..... it's all about survival and improving the feature and identifying those traits the propagate genes the best ...
