  1. You know, SOME babies don't have the social advantage of having a liquor store close by. it's an outrage, and did you know that most of the babies are of the same race???!!!!! it's not their fault, it's society's fault alone. how can you be against equality for all babies? ... 2. If we installed the alcohol detector/GPS on guns, then any hunter could find his way out of the woods and into a bar. (serious position? I think it's a great idea for people with DWI on their records. Absolutely intrusive and stupid and expensive for those that aren't guilty) welcome to the new "nanny" mentality, where everyone is not only helpless, but also guilty of everything by default. ... 3. Good idea. How many times has each of us been driving around and just looking for a nice bar, or a liquor store? Sometimes a little help is needed. A detector will let us find these establishments easier and more conveniently. And spending money there will help the local establishments. You could wire it to function with a GPS for that matter Of course, they'd be worthless in Wisconsin. They'd just point you to various front seats, backseats and trunks of every car. But that's ok - it's easy to find alcohol in WI without any fancy device. ... 4. He was weeping pretty hard. I wonder if he thought the story really was true. It wouldn't be the first time a politician is told a false story and he runs with it because it fits his agenda - we all hear what we want to hear. I don't like his politics, but he's one of my congressmen and, to me, he seems like a decent sort still. (weeping seemed sincere, but the "degree" of weeping seemed to be a bit of added political theatrics) ... 5. Please let everyone know that you'll be pulling high and will be a potential hazard to others at pull time. if doing RW - tell your camera guy and try not to kill him FF - you'll need to break at like 5500 - try not to cork out and kill the others Swooping - good choice, you should have clean air if you hold for the end of the pattern multi plane dz's - please avoid Turbine babies (it's a term, not an insult) that can't spot, and are scared of hop and pops, and need to open really high are a completely different form of hazard at modern DZs today. It's one big loss in the self sufficiency from the days of most 182s. ... 6. Poor general fitness and muscle tone is likely for most. But accidents also happen to the most fit of people. And skydiving can expose us to normally very unnatural poses and joint angles. Things in skydiving can also happen VERY fast and with a LOT of force. And skydiving does tend to have a much larger age and fitness range than more athletic sports that see these types of injuries. ... 7. I disagree, taking money from people for the sole purpose of social engineering should not be the role of government. We need to eliminate incentives and breaks, and treat all individuals equally. Taking the biased benefits away from married people is fair. TIPPING the scales the complete other direction is just another form of bias. And people thinking that making us all equal is "ignoring reality" are just fulfilling their own prophecy. "I give up, so I want mine too" is quitter talk. but I understand your point, and you make it well - but I disagree ... 14. You might call the companies as well and ask about the fit. But I suspect they'll all say the padding lets their brand fit anyone (not always true). i.e., which is better for round vs oval head shapes, etc. Bonehead's Mindwarp (when I got my FF helmet) I recall came with instructions to bake them at a couple hundred degrees and then form them a bit while hot. I don't know if this is advisable anymore or not on any other brand. Probably not. But it helped quite a bit on that one. I use a Z1 and absolutely love it FWIW - so no experience on your two options. good luck ... 16. this was a point we brought up here on a thread on fat kids if they got teased, many would lose weight - that was met with astonishment and indignation - we need to tell fat kids they are beautiful as they are and that will get them to .... lose.....beautiful....weight? but now, since a euro country teases fat people, maybe it'll be ok with them ..... ... 18. These two statements are contradictory. You are exhibiting the common human trait of resistance to change. nice - you pulled it out of context and just ignored the rest fine - experienced jumpers shouldn't have any minimum requirement, it's silly to have one that's not enforceable. you can just require AADs on mains and close that final step for the new and improved nanny level BSRs ... 19. you are not "giving" them any more time, people choose their own opening altitudes - not big brother they have the option to take as much altitude as they need (provided they don't open so high as to be a danger to others) people can choose for themselves someone can always recommend more and more conservative rules until we just don't jump at all - it's a tired old theme. this topic is a real non-starter. 2K minimum is a fine rule for D-license and up. We have higher minimum altitudes for less experienced people. You can't legislate judgment on those without it - you can only insult those that already have good judgment ... 22. Interesting idea, I salute your passion but I think thats a step too far old boy actually, as much as I despise smoking and as stupid as I think it is, my real belief is that people should be able to do what they like as far as it's concerned without the gov trying to socially engineer or exploit it. As long as they do it away from others that would be affected or annoyed by it or in a private location - i.e., be courteous about it. I'd be all for people being able to take a pill or a shot to get the same affect and penalties - that would be fine with me. Even if it has health effects for their own children, provided they deal with that too without asking me to pay for it. They get what they want without being intrusive like it is today. ... 25. Apologies for the digression, but please don't think of needing to perform an AFF level jump jump more than once as a "failed" jump. I'll join that digression. I don't much care if the student calls it a 'fail' or a 'practice' or a 'bunny' provided they take that jump as a practice or a repetition and wants to learn from it and that the term they personally choose to use doesn't affect them negatively. I'm NOT a fan of any instructor using that term even when it's clear it's a comfort zone for the student. I wouldn't use that wording anyway - that flavor of student has sufficient self motivation that I can focus on positive reinforcement in my role. Only if the student is completely turned off by me avoiding the term (semantics arguments with students are pointless) and it obstructs his learning as such - then I'd consider entering his comfort zone that way just to keep it moving. I'd think this would be a ridiculously rare scenario. I'll leave your digression here too, now. ...
