Headline: Baseball bats, police batons online sales boom in UK Quote: "Sales of baseball bats and batons have shot up more than 5,000 percent in the last 24 hours on Amazon's British website, as London suffered its worst violent unrest in decades." Story: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/09/uk-britain-baseballbats-idUKTRE7784UF20110809 Its a very popular sport John clearly this is unrelated to the riots clearly this is a fan response to the recent collegiate world series of women's softball and the incredible British love of baseball and softball ... What's with all these "What's the BEST (something or other)" threads seriously, all this stuff is subjective and if one needs to solicit for a "best" of anything, then it must not be that clear cut I suspect the best editing software is something I actually read the manual on . Or something the other guys around me use so we can share our experience - especially those programs that are very complicated and have so many features. another way to approach it is to define what one considers best for them and score/rank those attributes they think are real. then get a large poll conducted to rate those attributes across a lot of candidate programs - then total up weight scores of those results. (it's called a decision matrix - neat tool) frankly, anyone looking for something free should just be happy to find something at all that works ... You might be right. But, my wife's broken neck (cracked vertibrae from a hard opening) kept her from jumping all last year..... so we were likely asking all the same questions regardless of our relative spousal spinal conditions. I specifically researched line behavior and recommended she ask specifically about Dacron on the Pulse for very reason that dacron is (generically) very mitigating for hard openings. The rep noted dacron is not an option as the trim of the Pulse was very important and Dacron was too flexy. So she did ask, and that's the answer she got - "we don't use Dacron on the Pulse" - you might have talked to someone else, or their position in the last 9 months may have changed on the matter - YMMV I don't recall the name of the rep she talked to, it was some time ago - the lead times are/were pretty hefty. good luck - her Pulse arrive last night and we're very excited with it - I'll go get a picture and post it. I hope your wife's new canopy is gentle enough so she can continue to enjoy this sport. ... both are good observations. But, seriously, many newbies, as well as bucket list mid-lifers, get into the sport for their egos and, therefore, try to romanticize the "danger" image of the sport in unreasonable, naive, and sometimes really dorky ways. They usually grow out of it or move on eventually to something else - usually because non-skydivers can be impressed if you skydive, but other skydivers aren't. I don't see anything out of the ordinary here. Other than a disconnect from today's sport where we have really good planners and athletes that progress the sport along with idiots that are impressed with themselves and take stupid risks and pretend its eXtREme. Compare this to the olden times when we had really good planners and athletes that progressed the sport along with idiots that are impressed with themselves and take stupid risks and pretend its eXtREme...........nevermind ... here's the deal - 1 - cut spending AND raise taxes on everyone - that will do the best job. 2 - only cut spending without raising taxes - that will push us in the right direction at least and set the correct budgetary mindset 3 - only raise taxes - that will likely result in increased spending and make everything worse. But this is proven as the SOP for government for years and years. 4 - raise taxes and raise spending - again, normal SOP and the likely end result of scenario #3 when the dust settles - regardless of original good intentions. 2 real scenarios - #2 first, then migrate to #1 once we can show discipline else #3 morphing into #4 - AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH - we've tried this one multiple times and it's why we're in bad shape seems to me, we have a legitimate argument to hold one item ransom (taxes) to prove the other (spending discipline) - but not the other way around. Until we prove we are capable of succeeding in #2, then option #1 is just an impossible dream. Seriously, didn't anyone read the S&P report? ... Are you factoring-in viscosity? also, how hard do you want to work to empty the bodies. Is it just the easy flow, or will be hanging them for some time and even going after the internal tissue content? Seems the body count has at least a +/- 20% error factor just there. ... nonsense - I get his point. All the 'clever' posts are fine and true in many cases, but that's in ALL the other threads. His was very specific and intended to weed out that stuff which is already discussed to death. I like the idea of eliminating the home mortgage deduction - and, yes, this would greatly increase my taxes paid with the current brackets. I think the government shouldn't be "encouraging" or "discouraging" financial behavior at all in either business or private - let them delete the personal exemptions too - and business 'props' and 'penalties'. Let the market do its job and keep the tax code simple. ... "We could lower the long-term rating to 'AA' within the next two years if we see that less reduction in spending than agreed to, higher interest rates, or new fiscal pressures during the period result in a higher general government debt trajectory than we currently assume in our base case." "The political brinksmanship of recent months highlights what we see as America's governance and policymaking becoming less stable, less effective, and less predictable than what we previously believed. The statutory debt ceiling and the threat of default have become political bargaining chips in the debate over fiscal policy." "In addition, the plan envisions only minor policy changes on Medicare and little change in other entitlements, the containment of which we and most other independent observers regard as key to long-term fiscal sustainability." seriously, you can "QUOTE" the "ACTUAL STATEMENTS" made or, you can just admit that what they really mean is BV's stock statement that the S&P just blame republicans (only) for being recalcitrant what are you thinking - quoting the text ... The Beast Is Starved: Welcome to the Next Great Depression

Whatever else, the word "compromise" in Washington (at least) only means the "other guys" have to move in my direction. Regardless of who's saying it. But lately, especially the pres has been on that kick so much, I suspect everyone now knows that little trick. I'd like to thank the president for overusing that trick so blatantly - perhaps the voters will see more clearly now when their D and R statesmen are doing it too and call them out on it. ... I think the general concept of when a Federal law trumps should be strictly restricted to items directly attributable to the constitution. Anything else (since the Feds should mind their own business), the state should trump Fed. I think we forgot how this country was supposed to be structured. ... It seemed to me to be less about making money, and more about getting his political agenda out. that said - I have zero issues with making a buck - it's not a crime (though seems some here want it to be) I do have issues with that blatant brainwashing contests both the left and far right seem to be conducting on the very young Huckabee's video (I saw the brief segment like the rest of you) is right up there with with the BHO chanting in the schools - pathetic and transparent ... I'll teach a staged flare to students to get them in the habit of assessing their landing during the flare. the concept of stages identifies a definite assessment point(s) in the middle of the process. of course, the end goal is to start the flare at a height that'll level us off near touchdown and then to continue with that flare at the pace to maintain the landing - in other words - keep flying the canopy until you stop (and finish the flare completely - I know a LOT of very experience skydivers that flare to their shoulders only and run like hell to stop - it's funny) ... Of course, this might also apply to those idiot car/pickup drivers that pull so far forward past the stop line that they aren't even over the sensors.
