Once again the media whips everyone into a frenzy...

and they really should shut up too they look like idiots. we all saw Bush's speeches, and Obama's are just as bad "well, you see......the real issue with hurricanes is that there is a lot of water and wind." " 'some' people don't have power......." blah blah blah - clearly, their writers target the lowest denominator audience - the problem is, it makes the presidents sound like idiots (or reveals them to be). leadership does not equal giving useless speeches disguised as Captain Obvious. same old shit - spewing the obvious. shut up and let the locals help those that need it and FEMA is a wasteful joke. needs to be deleted. ... Burglar's family awarded $300,000 in wrongful death suit
rehmwa replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
This wasn't a killing over a car stereo, the picture is bigger than this. This was about a business being repeatedly broken into. In some places tweekers are a real big problem and if a few less of them is better for everyone. Unfortunately I have to agree with the jury because state law doesn't allow people to protect their businesses. What I don't agree with is the law. People should have the right to defend their property regardless of whether its their home, car, boat, or business. excellent post - I'd like to ask those that find a 'car Stereo' to be a no brainer. Clearly, you've established that you will kill then for something more, we now just have to establish a price. Car Stereo - maybe $200 (or more, or less) - don't kill Can any of you then tell the rest of us what $$$ it becomes 'mature' in your minds? And let's make it simple for each of the scenarios: 1 - simple larcency, they just take property 2 - burglary and larcency, they break something in order to steal it 3 - burglary and larcency, they break into a place that has potential victims in order to steal it just tack on your $$ limit for when you decide to stand up for yourself Edit: what about - they break into your house once a week and only steal $200 worth of property each time. Are they allowed to do it indefinitely? or will these $$ amount be based on a cumulative total........? ... no problem - I didn't keep a summary of all the post, just responding to the one without all the back context. still, how is letting a kid play with a toy gun any different than letting them play with a toy car, toy anything......a water pistol is fun and not any more or less conducive to teaching violence than a hose, or water balloons - it's a toy. have a great weekend ... Glad it works for you. But I don't see how teaching them about owning a piece of property and using it responsibly is considered a part of teaching non-violence. Shooting guns is NOT a violent activity. However, that's clearly your choice as a family. But did you not let your kids play with Hot Wheels because you wanted them to learn to not drive drunk as adults? (just my perspective on it.) My experience with guns (dad was a gunsmith and dealer his entire life) was about being being responsible about it from a VERY early age, hunting and target shooting as a family bonding activity (it's my best memories of my father) and more of all those (true) cliches. to me: guns = responsibility, care of your property, bonding with family, outdoors, control, precision, appreciation of well-made and interesting objects. All this is very supportive of a philosophy of non-violence combined with responsibility. ... Republicans Propose New tax on Everyone but the wealthy.
rehmwa replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
I saw no "real" Dem plan to cut spending of any kind. It was all discussions about the extent of the massive increase. You can't say that a "slightly less massive increase" = "a cut". Only politicians really believe that level of semantic crap - and the brainwashed advocates that worship them. This is also 100% true of the Republican plan that actually passed. It just about guarentees the deficit rises from 14t to 22t and makes very tiny "cuts" to forecast increases while pushing all the hard decisions down the road. AGREED - they both played smoke and mirrors while the Tea Party gets mocked for trying advocate real cuts. (well, they got mocked for other things, but this was why they were really getting the huge discredit effort at them) ... perfectly put - whatever motivates and gets someone to consistently workout HARD and eat smarter is what WORKs. I'm on to 16+ months of P90X (P90X Plus, Insanity) and that change was a ton of fun. For me, it was the variety of the workouts made it easier to stick with it every day - despite that very annoying guy on the videos. Once I did a couple rounds, it was easy to design my own workouts with the same philosophy and get rid of the vids. I've seen similar results from others with Crossfit, kettlebells, Zumba, etc etc etc. There's a reason why the group that markets P90X has about a billion other programs too - everybody is different, there is no magic one formula that engages everybody. This summer was a slackening of effort, so I'm resetting as of yesterday - Day 1 in the books. the trick is to find whatever gets you into it for the long haul and to do something everyday - but do it like you mean it. P90X isn't magic, it's a lot of hard effort and commitment. ... Unless you actually believed the offer to "really, give us a massive increase this year and I PROMISE we'll cut spending a little bit in 10 or 20 years" Neither side had any ability to compromise when there was not a common region to start from. Frankly, the points were so far apart, I saw no way either side to even begin to compromise. ... The Middle Class Should Be Furious, Another Millionaire Says

so let's look at the list: mortgage deduction (encouraging home ownership) deduct interest on other purchases (encouraging economic activity) education (need I spell it out?) Prius (enviro freak legislation) business writeoffs (enabling small business) etc so all forms of government manipulation of the market in terms of subsidies, writeoffs, social engineering every single one of these are stuff the left or the right will advocate - pick a side the only diff, then, in this thread, is this stuff is apparently ok if you make less than $150K, but it's bad if you make over? so here's the rub - ELIMINATE all of these for EVERYBODY, and then the net result is a more fair balance sheet for everybody - why? deductions and subsidies will always help those that have more to protect. So a little pain for the poor, but a LOT of pain for the rich, and we also simplify the tax code greatly for everyone gov dabbles in just way too much - get them out of it ... of course, your rich lifestyle and oppression of natural fowlery in the wild is directly attributable to the Bush tax cuts and the debt owed to all the perversely rich congressmen thusly, the win is not really a credit, but something taken off of the backs of women and minorities who would have done better but the are currently tied down by their bootstraps to the corporate facism of big business, especially those businesses that are owned by republicans in a fair world, you should donate $5 per bullet to the us treasury and then another $1 to Jesse Jackson and then the medal or trophy from the comp should be cut up into 10 equal pieces for each of ten other competitors - for their self esteem frankly, the other kids should be praised for missing these endangered birds on purpose - since it's much more difficult to miss a target with a gun - since untended guns have a natural 'kill reflex' due to the nanothermites. they are the true heroes - the other shooters, not the nanos. I suggest strong counselling for the boy and perhaps some seminars on tolerance and advocacy. I mean, clearly the only reason he won was to put down the other kids and not because he enjoys the activity or wants to be good at something. you did post this in Speaker's Corner {good job - how many birds did he hit vs attempts?} ... Frankly, I think you two are talking about similar technique but just calling it and visualizing it "slightly" different. (But in practice/application, it ends up with the same results, just some students 'get it' better with one description and others better with the other) I like it when people argue about the semantics of something they agree on. Warren Buffett calls for higher taxes for US super rich

Makes sense, would leave more to give to charitable organizations and causes. that's very selfish and right wingish of him. if he was a true patriot, he'd give it directly to the government, as he's preaching, who is more capable of determining which charities (or government expenditures) need it how DARE he actually chooses for himself what to do with his money!!! clearly he's a hypocrit on the subject ... We got Skimmer's Pulse 135 last week and she jumped it this weekend. She's super excited. all the opening are smooth and positive, but without any yank or off heading. She thinks it's flying and flaring very much like her Sabre2 - 135. My impression was it seemed a little more docile than the old canopy and it carried less speed into the landing (lines up with the flatter line trim as noted). But, then, I won't be jumping it. She's extremely pleased. I'll post pics once I download my card from the weekend. I don't think Dacron (even if they would offer) is necessary at all since key to the the opening characteristics are a steady and smooth sequence. The extra stretchiness wouldn't necessarily help with consistency, IMHO (that's a guess). But, seriously, PD would know best as always - they speak to the design intent, tempered by their experience in the product testing. ... I agree with your comment. I was just noting that the anti-gunners are a self fulfilling prophecy of application of repetition to the stupid. Churches are a business and should be taxed as such. Government shouldn't be giving ANY organization special deals, penalties, or subsidies. Not taxing them is equivalent to propping them up or subsidization. This is another example of gov sticking their noses in areas they just aren't needed. Or just take the Democrat approach. Buy the filet mignon, even when the husband says they can't afford it. Then, when the husband mentions hamburger, blame him for starving her children and threaten not to buy any groceries. Nah, the democrat approach is have someone else buy the filet mignon, then take part of it and give it to others and demand that person buy more so they can give it to more people. If the person objects or mentions that they could feed more with hamburger, they are called heartless and selfish. The sad part is, both of the Dem and Rep examples are completely accurate. That's our real problem. In real life - the husband AND the wife both agree to buy hamburger, they plant a garden, both go to work - and they stop buying cigarettes and champagne. The children whine about 2nd hand clothes, and the parents teach them to deal with it. SO - if are calling government analogous to parents, what we are really doing is observing that government is crappy parents and we should be taking away their power hugely. Government IS that father/husband - and he doesn't have a real job because he doesn't produce anything - that's why he's so crappy with his personal finances. The real analogy is that the father (gov)'s only job is robbing gas stations, but all the gas stations have closed because of the crime rate he created - and they don't care if he's dem or rep ... but, the anti-gun advocates are doing their best to transfer that ignorance/paradigm (successfully) to the US anyway I'm becoming anti-gun for most city dwellers just because of the idiot factor on the subject becoming more prevalent every decade.
