"global warming is a terrible thing, we should stop burning oil" "I was visiting an old folks home the other day and all the seniors agreed that weather is getting more and more violent compared to when they were younger" "yup, global warming is a terrible thing" "we need a stimulus, again" "people are starving" "we need a stimulus, again" "defense is underfunded" "muslims hate us" "defense is underfunded" pick any wacked out position and politicians play the same bait and switch all the time - they don't care what the topic is, they only care if they can tweak the polls a little bit more in their direction - by letting the populace fill in the blanks with whatever they want to believe. Short answer - I hate the tactic. I don't care about the extent of the sin, that's a different thing. Spinning against vaccine might be a relatively worse use of it, but that's not my point. So you might be fine and dandy with the tactic if it pushes one agenda - I think it's despicable when it's used for any agenda - big or small - high impact or not. ... don't be an ass - since we're agreeing that her message is stupid, then you're wrong too - I'm talking tactics. reread my edit her implication is intentional it appears that you're defending her, absolutely NOT. Did you even read what I wrote? If anything, i have a worse outlook on her than the rest of you - I accusing her of intentially trying to get people to infer a falsehood - but leaving herself open to own it or deny it depending on how it plays with the masses. ... Bullshit. do you Dowd very much? tactical quote trimming is disingenuous at best - the rest of the quote (you skipped, I replaced it in italics) it's ironic that you just did something equivalent to what Bachmann did - Now follow closely: it's a standard tactic on all these issues. She says directly: "there's dangerous consequences" She then implies: here's an anecdote someone ELSE told me (in this case mental retardation) she then expects you to draw the conclusion without saying it directly - the hoped for inference being "vaccine causes mental retardation" - but she doesn't directly say THAT, just that someone else told her then she repeats: "there's dangerous consequences" it's slimy, we see it everywhere, I find it dispicable. it's not specific to any party or any specific social position - they all do it ... But it's the SOP for all the politicians - how many times has Obama or GWB talk about that old person they had a conversation with and the issues and troubles she had? How many times did Al Gore make up the very same type of conversations? the point is to pretend you are communicating and sensitive should we blame Bachman for just being stupid in her example? (the answer is yes, thankfully we see her for her nutbag social positions before the primaries) she should have stuck with fiscal conservatism - it seems most Reps fail when they decide 'their' social views should be out front. Now we know how nuts she is. of course, that's also when the Dems reveal their craziness too we need one 'social' position - "none of my business, but don't expect me to pay for it" ... absolutely - so you are calling the 'tearful woman' here retarded as for Bachman, she appeared to just pass the quote along, not draw a conclusion. as for her implication.......well, that's retarded ... my wife changed her snug pattern a couple years ago to a spandex back and down the legs a bit (for her tight suit pattern - it's pretty much the RW suit torso - since FF suits don't have booties and grippers (yet ) then they should be much more comfy than a good RW suit). It's great and super comfy. She's sold a ton and the good freeflyers are really liking it. for those looking for a looser fit, the spandex isn't really needed - but it's essential for those that want to fly their body rather than fly the suit ... ackk,, gag,,,,, ack,,, gag why do uptight people think that EVERYTHING in the freaking world has to have some kind of PC social conscience slant to it? doesn't she remember the last pageant where the girl was asked something controversial and she got SLAMMED just for being honest about her (subjective) opinion "what's your favorite color?" Like all the people who watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report for their news. Or O'Reilly and the rest of the cast over at the misnamed FoxNews. I hope that excellent comical/satire like the Daily Show and Colbert are a bit easier to distinguish as not news vs those opinion talk shows that take themselves so seriously. so back to Skydekker's comment that the opinion shows do more harm than good... with that comedic distinction in mind, I think DS and Colbert actually do add value - politics absolutely needs mockery. I'm not a big fan of the opinion shows either, but I give the normal public a bit more credit to recognize them for what they really are and consider them ineffective at best - or just self affirming at worst for people that already have made up their minds (both lefty and righty opinion shows mostly just preach to the choir anyway....) ... {{{ok - then I fully expect your total support of Fox news reporting then}}} that's a lot different than reporting actually wallowing in it with a direct intent to push policy - especially in an industry (supposedly) founded on lack of bias why should the public just blindly be accepting of any 'inherent' bias? or is it ok when we agree with it only? ... the impression I'm getting is that Rush wants to highlight that if a former (here unnamed) president were to have made the same gaff, the media would have had an orgy of outrage (we know this by repeated example after example) - contrasted to this president where everyone is happy to give the benefit of the doubt and even allow the actual events to be rewritten for the long term review. I think the point is more about severely unequal attitudes drawn down party lines (in the major media which shouldn't be this way by definition) - not about BHO, himself. not a surprise, but no biggie to point it out, again as for which 'individuals' and their reactions on the two partisan sides - I'm not surprised and it's no big deal ... Bachman was doing ok fiscally. Then she started commenting on social stuff.......and thusly confirmed her true idiocy. Socially, she's just as bad as Obama - just on the other extreme. Put the two in the same room and both disappear in a flash of light and energy. Please let her drop out and stop talking in public. ... this is so nicely stated expectations of tipping is a burden on customers - that reduces their experience I doubt it would matter...the extra cost to pay the waiters more will still be passed off to the customer. you're only talking $$$'s, I'm talking the experience and then it would be explicitly listed as the price on the menu for the customer to know exactly what he is buying (already including the labor cost) - not as the marked down menu item AND a subjective tip that's now an expectations rather than a reward service issues would be handled by customers complaining to management or by them not going to the establishment. excellent workers would be paid more by management because it brings in more customers - why should service fields not have to price in labor to their pricing structure - everybody else does why, as a customer, should I have to go and purchase two things when all I want is one thing - dinner? - heck - the servers would actually know what they are getting paid too.......what a concept ... You mean except for that whole thing in the US Constitution. Right? snarky much? You do realize that the USPS is one of the very few government agencies specifically addressed in the US Constitution; right? Not an Amendment that came later. Not even in the Bill of Rights, but it actually predates the Constitution itself and then is formalized in Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution. If you're going to say that's "snarky" of me to mention it, I kinda have to assume you didn't know that. So, don't go all Tea Party crazy trying to get rid of it. snarky more? instead of demonstrating your disdain for other humans and feeding Kallends need for it as well, what do you get from the USPS that can't be done otherwise better - with those resources and using those same employees? ... and what about the staff, the DZO, and the hotshits that HAVE to land in front of the crowd as well as those too good to follow your instruction and want to land so they don't have to walk very far (perhaps they can land on the roof of the hanger) I can just see the loading area - instead of fighting to be first out (the hotshits that hose the spot for everyone else).
