The right wing wants to be able to deny coverage for birth control, and anything else they find "offensive". So nobody wants to pay for someone's birth control - neither for themselves, nor for another that sounds just about right Of course - abusing law to force one's subjective beliefs on another isn't the sole domain of the uber right, it pretty much matches any self righteous fanatic and we find them on all sides. It's what politics "really" is. It's about forcing others to your view, rather than protecting the individual to live his life. ... Sure is. None of those keep eating when not in use. none of them eat at all however, they all have continue maintenance and storage costs whether used or not - unless you are neglectful and you can't eat an antique car when you're through with it ... Seems the two positions are: 1 - one group wants the collective to pay for their BC (their definition of "free" or "don't want to pay for it") 2 - the other group wants to decide on an individual basis But if you think the 'right wing' (whatever that is) is the first group, I think you are reading the news incorrectly IMO - I don't see what's wrong with position 2 - if someone wants it covered, then they should purchase a policy that covers it. I'd think it would be very reasonable (and clearly there's a market for it) since it'll help the insurers reduce costs in the long run. ... that's actually more how I feel - my cynicism gets me rolling sometime On that same theme - perhaps the conservatives see that the ill conceived solution would create a worse situation than the one the needs fixing and the only solution is to allow the population to mature - forcing it will retard maturity, not enhance ... Because they really don't know if you are a DGIT or just intellectually curious. So the only responsible thing is to assume the worst and respond that way. Then it degenerates because the youngster isn't getting the feedback they think they need and it spirals down quick. I'd really just prefer these threads to die immediately with one of the usual crowd saying - "we don't know you so we just can't decide. Here's reference to a suggested list of canopy skills needed to fully learn the current canopy (provide the link) - Have you done these? (most haven't). And then a referral to canopy training courses scheduled around the world. (if this is available)." essentially - 1 - we don't know you 2 - have you done the skills list yet (probably not) 3 - go invest in live mentoring and coaching from somebody respected in the industry (not just your DZ hotshot) 4 - go away, you won't be validated regardless of whether you are doing it right or doing it wrong the big clue is, if you are asking questions here, then you clearly aren't getting the guidance directly - because you'd be asking that person. Some of the posters are asshats about it - well, we are seriously tired of seeing our friends break themselves just for their egos. Me, I'm sad and I miss them, but frankly I'm really just relieved when it happens if they manage to not hurt someone else with the same shit. funny thing - this same mindset also typically think that teaching themselves to drive cars and motorcycles super fast on public roads (danger to themselves and others) is just fine and they won't take the effort to train on a controlled track either. Same mentality, same dramatic results, but even more vocal about it even though the risks to others is even more apparent. ... and you can see what's so terrible about that scenario - Dave might be a great guy if you judge his actions throughout his life. He might be responsible, excellent at catching dogs and taking care of the strays..... But if he has a bad name, or his eye color is not acceptable, then he doesn't stand a chance but that's ok - there are entire groups out there with self righteous outrage making sure that these meaningless bias' live on Perception is everything, you life, wealth and happiness depends on it. absolutely - isn't that the problem? but you have to ask in an unbiased way - who is REALLY pushing that travesty past the point of reasonableness? you are just repeating your point - talking about what is vs is not I was just commenting on true right vs wrong - different discussion is/isn't doesn't change right/wrong ... I think it's great that you actually do understand the true Liberal position on the subject. It's a payout for votes. Of course, there plenty of examples of how crappy positions, marketed in an emotionally manipulative fashion are used by politicians (of any parties) to buy votes. ... Downsizing, but when? Also I am an under-aged jumper...
rehmwa replied to FlyKid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There's a progression of skills to master (not just stand up landings) before downsizing - find a local mentor that knows that list and go work the list on the current canopy. ... This would seem a reasonable solution. If it passes, I can't wait for the extreme left to then propose that free temporary IDs must be given out at the polls, upon solely verbal request, with all translators made freely available (just in case) on voting day It would really simplify things, you won't need a bill to show residency, or someone to vouch, or anything. If you have an ID, just vote. If you don't, you can get your ID, and then vote. Of course, having to take the extra step will then be argued to be a disparity of effort and thus, amazingly unfair....... ... I really like most of paul's doemestic policies but his foriegn stuf kinda rubs me the wrong way. what we need is 2 presidents, one for foriegn and 1 for doemestic. Sounds to me like he's interested in RW and all the disciplines, but he's been so brainwashed by the FF-Only crowd that he can't admit it publicly. To the OP - Have fun in jumping - enjoy all the disciplines and take them seriously enough to dress for success. There are plenty of one-discipline-wonders out there and they are stifling their progression by refusing to be well rounded. Your FF will help your belly, and your belly work will make you a better FFer - it's all just pushing air. But don't do something half assed unless you want to jump the rest of your career with those that also just jump half assed. Those that can really help you get better won't waste their time on you if you look like you just showed up for a boogie style air bath. (BTW - a true freeflier flies head down, head up, back AND belly. Freefly means all orientations - not just sit, not just HD) ... The contention here is that women will only select other women as role models rather than finding the best engineer they know to be a role model regardless of gender. so are you saying that women are sexist and this is slowing down their penetration into engineering? the article talks about mentoring to be important - that's fine, encouragement and guidance can help. I find the double standard related to gender or race, etc to be sad. A couple of my best role models in skydiving are female - because of their attitude and SKILL - just like a couple other skydiving role models who happen to be male. I find the need to have role models that "look" like us to be a sad statement on people's ability to decide what's really important. ... What an odd statement - Voter ID is intended to halt disenfranchisement (been down this road before though - someone will say, "Hey, you DO get to vote. It doesn't matter if an illegal vote CANCELED your vote - that's not "really" disenfranchisement - it's just that your vote doesn't mean anything and I'm OK with that if it helps MY guy win") ...
