They're leather uppers with rubber soles. I don't think I've ever seen a shoe with a leather sole or at least I wasn't paying attention. The shoe repair lady said leather soled shoes are pretty uncommon for regular price shoes
-
I wasn't really trying to return them...well sort of, I just wanted a discount on a new pair. Somethings obviously wrong with the way they make them if the soles only last a year!
-
I'd have a pair of leather dress shoes for about a year and a half. Granted I wear them almost every day for work but the soles show no wear! Then I notice one had cracked completely across the sole. Store won't replace or give me a discount on a new ones since they're more than 6 months old. And a shoe repair place says most all shoes today will crack long before they wear out since they're made with non flexible rubber. So buying leather shoes is a waste of money since the soles won't last more than a few years. And Born shoes aren't cheap either, about $90 a pair. Geez, where'd all the quality go? End rant, feel better now

I think we have our wires crossed

I'm not sure where you're getting that I'm going down by 3 canopy sizes. I'm going from a 135 to a 120.
-
Thanks. That's the kind of insight/comments I'm looking for.
-
Yep. (I do have around 50 or so jumps on various ellipticals with a 1.4 loading from borrowing and demoing.)
-
I'm bored because it feels slower and slower to me. Even doing 90 and 180 in little wind. My goal is swooping and even if I'm not I would like a little faster of a canopy. Landing straight in in windy conditions sometimes I don't have any forward penetration. Keep in mind my wl now is about 1.1. I want and elliptical because of responsiveness and more speed. 1.4 at 900 jumps is actually a lot less than all the wingloading charts out there recommend for progression. Not that you have to follow that but just to compare.
-
Because I have a sabre2 now that I've put about 600 jumps on and I'm bored. I've put several jumps on a sabre2 120 and it really doesn't feel that much different to me. That's why I want to go elliptical. And it's not like I need optimal performance with a higher wingloading anyway. I'm certainly not competing in anything.
-
Why do you say Katana?
-
119/120 at a 1.4 wingloading.
-
I've been reading as many posts as I can find comparing the two and they are pretty much evenly divided. My take from reading these is that the canopies are very similar but the Katana dives more aggressively and the crossfire has a better glide. Or at least that's what most people are saying, correct me if I'm misinterpeting this. I've put about 8 jumps on a Katana but haven't yet jumped the crossfire 2, planning on getting a demo if I can't find one to borrow. So what canopy would you recommend with the goal of swooping being the main reason for buying? Edited cuz I'm typing to fast

CHICKS ROCK BOOGIE 2005, SKYDIVE ELSINORE!

So who else is going to be there for demos besides Kolla's boy slaves? -
I forgot to fasten my chin strap on my bonehead once while doing a tandem. I could feel it starting to come off as I was exiting and spent the entire freefall flying with one hand on my head. Even managed to hold a heading the entire skydive that way! That was a lesson I won't forget for a while.

The case for carrying a 3rd canopy.
tetra316 replied to Trae's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When did that change? I had to have a cutaway when I got strong rating last October. Haven't yet had a mal so I did a couple intentionals. More for fun though! -
Me too. Anyone if they are going to have demo canopies available and from who?

Manufacturer's recommended wingloading, on the low end

And what was it you were saying about getting a crossfire on sunday since you didn't like the cobalt? -

What do you mean...? Crossfires are not cross braced. -

Nah, I like the responsiveness of the 'ellipticals' better after jumping yours and the stilletto. Plus there seems to be a lot more used crossfires for sale than sabre2s. -

I see your point. What canopy would you recommend then? I would like to get an elliptical, not another sabre2. And I don't like the idea of a stilleto due to the short recovery arc. -

I've been jumping Sabre2 for the last 500 or so jumps. I'm getting something in the 120 size soon and have been trying different canopies like the impulse and stilleto. I really like how much more responsive an elliptical is and a crossfire seems a good choice. -
Manufacturer's recommended wingloading, on the low end
tetra316 replied to tetra316's topic in Gear and Rigging
So what exactly does it mean when a manufacturer recommends a wingloading? Not all do but the crossfire 2 recommends a wl of 1.4 and up. If I load it under that at around 1.34 to 1.38 does that really affect the flight? Would I be better off waiting till I'm ready to load it up more or would the effect really matter? Any one with experience underloading a canopy and then downsizing to within the recommended? (And yes I did email Icarus, just waiting to hear back from them. ) -
Who can I contact to get a Crossfire 2 demo?

Regrets? Would you do it differently?
tetra316 replied to nael's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If I could do it over again I would have started jumping sooner. Sure I wouldn't have been able to do the number of jumps I did since I was in college but the experiences and being around it I think would have taught me even more.
